Psaumes 104
1 Bénis, mon âme, l’Eternel! Eternel, mon Dieu, tu es infiniment grand; tu es vêtu de splendeur et de majesté.
Bless, O my soul, the Lord. O Lord my God, thou art very great; with glory and majesty art thou clothed.
2 Tu t’enveloppes de lumière comme d’un manteau, tu déploies les cieux comme une tenture.
[Thou art he] who wrappeth himself in light as with a garment; who stretcheth out the heavens like a curtain;
3 Sur les eaux tu as posé les voûtes de ta demeure sublime, les nuages te servent de char, tu t’avances sur les ailes du vent.
Who frameth of the waters the beams of his upper-chambers; who maketh the clouds his chariot; who walketh along upon the wings of the wind:
4 Des vents tu fais tes messagers; des flammes ardentes, tes ministres.
Who maketh the winds his messengers; the flaming fire his ministers;
5 Tu as fondé la terre sur ses colonnes d’appui, pour qu’elle ne chancelle jamais.
Who hath founded the earth upon her bases, that she should not be moved to all eternity.
6 Tu l’as couverte de flots comme d’un vêtement; sur les montagnes les eaux s’étaient arrêtées.
Thou hadst covered the deep as with a garment: above the mountains stood the waters.
7 A ton injonction elles s’enfuirent; au bruit de ton tonnerre, elles s’élancèrent éperdues.
At thy rebuke they fled, at the voice of thy thunder they hastened away.
8 Des montagnes s’élevèrent, des vallées s’abaissèrent, occupant la place que tu leur avais assignée.
They ascended mountains; they went down valleys, unto the place which thou hadst founded for them.
9 Tu leur as fixé des barrières infranchissables, pour les empêcher de submerger à nouveau la terre.
Bounds hast thou set which they cannot pass over, that they return not again to cover the earth.
10 Tu fais jaillir des sources dans les vallées, elles poursuivent leur course entre les montagnes.
[Thou art he] who sendeth springs into the valleys, between mountains they run along.
11 Elles abreuvent toutes les bêtes des champs, les onagres y étanchent leur soif.
They give drink to all the beasts of the field: the wild asses quench [thereon] their thirst.
12 Sur leurs bords, les oiseaux du ciel font leur demeure; d’entre la feuillée, ils élèvent leur ramage.
By them have the fowls of the heaven ever their habitation, from between the branches they send forth their voice.
13 Du haut de ta résidence tu arroses les montagnes, la terre est nourrie du fruit de tes œuvres.
Who watereth the mountains from his upper-chambers: from the fruit of thy works is the earth satisfied.
14 Tu fais croître l’herbe pour les animaux domestiques, des plantes pour l’usage de l’homme, en tirant sa nourriture du sein de la terre:
[Thou art he] who causeth grass to grow for the cattle, and herbs by the service of man, that he may bring forth bread out of the earth;
15 le vin qui réjouit le cœur des mortels, l’huile qui fait resplendir les visages, le pain enfin qui fortifie le cœur de l’homme.
And wine that maketh joyful the heart of man, [and] oil to brighten his face, and bread which strengtheneth the heart of man.
16 Les arbres de l’Eternel sont abondamment pourvus, les cèdres du Liban que sa main a plantés.
Full of sap are the trees of the Lord, the cedars of Lebanon which he hath planted;
17 Là les oiseaux bâtissent leurs nids, la cigogne fait des cyprès sa demeure.
Where the birds make their nests: the stork—fir-trees are her house.
18 Les montagnes escarpées servent de retraite aux chamois, les rochers de refuge aux gerboises.
The high mountains are for the wild goats: the rocks are a shelter for the conies.
19 Il a fait la lune pour marquer les temps, le soleil connaît le terme de sa course.
He hath made the moon for seasons: the sun knoweth his going down.
20 Tu amènes les ténèbres, et c’est la nuit, la nuit, où circulent tous les hôtes de la forêt.
Thou causest darkness, and it becometh night, wherein creep forth all the beasts of the forest.
21 Les lionceaux rugissent après la proie, demandant à Dieu leur pâture.
The young lions roar after their prey, and ask from God their food.
22 Le soleil commence à poindre, ils se retirent, et vont se blottir dans leurs tanières;
The sun ariseth, they withdraw [to their lairs], and lie down in their dens.
23 l’homme se rend à son labeur, accomplit sa besogne jusqu’au soir.
Man goeth [then] forth unto his work, and to his labor until the evening.
24 Que tes œuvres sont grandes, ô Seigneur! Toutes, tu les as faites avec sagesse; la terre est remplie de tes créations.
How manifold are thy works, O Lord! in wisdom hast thou made them all: the earth is full of thy riches.
25 Voici le grand océan, aux étendues immenses! Là fourmillent des êtres sans nombre, des bêtes petites et grandes.
Here is this great and wide-extended sea; therein are moving things without number, living creatures both small and great.
26 Là cheminent des navires, ce Léviathan que tu as formé pour s’y ébattre.
There the ships make their way: [there also] is the leviathan, whom thou hast made to sport therein.
27 Tous mettent en toi leur attente, assurés que tu leur donneras leur nourriture en temps voulu.
All of these wait upon thee, to give them their food in its due season.
28 Tu la leur donnes, ils la recueillent; tu ouvres la main, ils sont comblés de biens.
What thou givest them they gather: thou openest thy hand, they are satisfied with good.
29 Tu dérobes ta face, ils sont dans l’épouvante; tu leur retires le souffle, ils expirent et retombent dans leur poussière.
Thou hidest thy face, they suddenly vanish: thou takest away their spirit, they perish, and to their dust they return.
30 Tu renvoies ton souffle, ils renaissent, et tu renouvelles la face de la terre!
Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created; and thou renewest the face of the earth.
31 Que la gloire de l’Eternel dure à jamais! Que le Seigneur se réjouisse de ses œuvres!
The glory of the Lord will endure for ever; the Lord will rejoice in his works:
32 Il regarde la terre, et elle vacille, il effleure les montagnes, et elles fument.
He who looketh down on the earth, and she trembleth; who toucheth the mountains, and they smoke.
33 Je veux chanter l’Eternel ma vie durant, célébrer mon Dieu tant que j’existerai.
I will sing unto the Lord while I live: I will sing praises to my God while I exist.
34 Puisse mon cantique lui être agréable! Moi, je me délecte en l’Eternel.
May my speech be agreeable to him: I will indeed rejoice in the Lord.
35 Que les pécheurs disparaissent de la terre, que les méchants ne soient plus! Mon âme, bénis l’Eternel, Alléluia!
May the sinners cease from off the earth, and the wicked be no more. Bless, O my soul, the Lord. Hallelujah.
