Proverbes 7
1 Mon fils, retiens mes paroles et pénètre-toi de mes recommandations;
[My] son, keep my words, and hide with you my commandments. [My] son, honor the Lord, and you shall be strong; and fear none but him:
2 garde mes préceptes pour que tu vives, et mon enseignement, comme la prunelle de tes yeux.
keep my commandments, and you shall live; and [keep] my words as the pupils of [your] eyes.
3 Attache-les à tes doigts, inscris-les sur les tablettes de ton cœur.
And bind them on your fingers, and write [them] on the table of your heart.
4 Dis à la sagesse: "Tu es ma sœur," et appelle la raison" Mon amie!"
Say that wisdom is your sister, and gain prudence as an acquaintance for yourself;
5 Ainsi tu seras mis en garde contre la femme d’autrui, contre l’étrangère au parler doucereux.
that she may keep you from the strange and wicked woman, if she should assail you with flattering words.
6 Aussi bien, il m’arriva de regarder par la fenêtre de ma chambre, à travers mon treillis.
For she looks from a window out of her house into the streets, at one whom she may see of the senseless ones, a young man void of understanding,
7 J’Observai les jeunes étourdis, je distinguai, parmi eux, un adolescent dépourvu d’intelligence.
passing by the corner in the passages near her house,
8 Il passait dans la rue, près du logis de cette femme, et dirigeait ses pas vers sa maison.
and speaking, in the dark of the evening,
9 C’Était à l’heure du crépuscule, quand le soir tombait et que la nuit se faisait sombre et obscure.
when there happens [to be] the stillness of night and of darkness:
10 Or, voici qu’une femme l’aborde, à la mise de courtisane et au cœur artificieux.
and the woman meets him having the appearance of a harlot, that causes the hearts of young men to flutter.
11 Bruyante et désordonnée, ses pieds ne tiennent pas en place à la maison;
And she is fickle, and debauched, and her feet abide not at home.
12 tantôt dans la rue, tantôt sur les places, à chaque coin elle se met aux aguets.
For at one time she wanders without, and at [another] time she lies in wait in the streets, at every corner.
13 Cette femme s’empare de lui, le couvre de baisers et, prenant un air effronté, lui dit:
Then she caught him, and kissed him, and with an impudent face said to him,
14 "J’Avais à faire un sacrifice de reconnaissance, et aujourd’hui même je me suis acquittée de mes vœux.
I have a peace-offering; today I pay my vows:
15 C’Est pourquoi je suis sortie à ta rencontre, voulant me trouver face à face avec toi, et te voilà!
therefore I came forth to meet you, desiring your face; [and] I have found you.
16 J’Ai paré ma couche de riches broderies, de draps en lin d’Egypte.
I have spread my bed with sheets, and I have covered it with double tapestry from Egypt.
17 J’Ai parfumé mon lit de repos de myrrhe, d’aloès et de cinnamone.
I have sprinkled my couch with saffron, and my house with cinnamon.
18 Viens donc, enivrons-nous d’amour jusqu’au matin, épuisons les délices des caresses.
Come, and let us enjoy love until the morning; come, and let us embrace in love.
19 Mon mari n’est pas à la maison, il est parti pour un voyage lointain.
For my husband is not at home, but is gone on a long journey,
20 Il a emporté sa sacoche avec lui et ne rentrera qu’au jour convenu."
having taken in his hand a bundle of money: after many days he will return to his house.
21 Elle l’ébranle par ce flux de paroles, et achève sa défaite par sa faconde insinuante.
So with much converse she prevailed on him to go astray, and with the snares of her lips forced him from [the right path].
22 Soudain il la suit, comme le bœuf va à l’abattoir, comme un fou qu’on entraîne pour le châtier,
And he followed her, being gently led on, and [that] as an ox is led to the slaughter, and as a dog to bonds, or as a hart shot in the liver with an arrow:
23 comme le passereau se lance dans le piège, jusqu’à ce qu’une flèche lui perce le foie: il ne se doute pas qu’il y va de sa vie.
and he hastens as a bird into a snare, not knowing that he is running for [his] life.
24 Et maintenant, mes fils, écoutez-moi, soyez attentifs aux paroles de ma bouche.
Now then, [my] son, listen to me, and attend to the words of my mouth.
25 Que votre cœur ne se détourne pas vers les voies d’une telle femme, ne vous égarez pas dans ses sentiers;
Let not your heart turn aside to her ways:
26 car nombreuses sont les victimes dont elle a causé la chute, et ceux qu’elle a fait périr sont foule.
for she has wounded and cast down many, and those whom she has slain are innumerable.
