Proverbes 5
1 Mon fils, sois attentif à la sagesse que je prêche, incline l’oreille aux conseils de ma raison,
My son, attend to my wisdom. And bow thine ear to my understanding;
2 afin d’observer une sage circonspection et de soumettre tes lèvres aux lois de la prudence.
That thou mayest keep discretion, And that thy lips may preserve knowledge!
3 C’Est que les lèvres de l’étrangère distillent du miel, et son palais est plus onctueux que l’huile.
Truly, the lips of a strange woman drop honey, And her mouth is smoother than oil;
4 Mais à la fin ce miel devient amer comme l’absinthe, et ce palais, acéré comme un glaive à double tranchant.
But her end is bitter as wormwood, Sharp as a two-edged sword.
Her feet go down to death; Her steps lay hold of the under-world. (Sheol h7585)
6 Elle n’a garde de fouler le chemin de la vie; ses sentiers sont mouvants, tu ne t’en douterais pas.
That she may not ponder the way of life, Her paths waver when she heedeth it not.
7 Et maintenant, mes fils, écoutez-moi: ne vous écartez point des paroles de ma bouche.
Hear me now, therefore, O children! And turn not away from the words of my mouth!
8 Eloigne tes pas de cette étrangère; ne t’approche pas de l’entrée de sa maison.
Remove thy way far from her. And come not nigh the door of her house:
9 Sans cela tu livrerais à d’autres ton honneur, et les années de ta vie à un cruel ennemi.
Lest thou give thy bloom to others, And thy years to a cruel one;
10 Des étrangers se gorgeraient du fruit de tes efforts, ton labeur enrichirait la maison d’un inconnu.
Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth, And thine earnings be in the house of an alien;
11 Tu te lamenterais sur ta destinée, en voyant se consumer ta chair et ta vigueur corporelle.
And lest thou mourn in thy latter end. When thy flesh and thy body are consumed,
12 Tu dirais alors: "Ah! pourquoi ai-je pris en haine la morale, et mon cœur a-t-il repoussé toute remontrance?
And say, “How have I hated instruction! And how hath my heart despised reproof!
13 Que n’ai-je écouté la voix de mes guides et prêté l’oreille à mes maîtres?
I have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, Nor inclined mine ear to my instructors;
14 Peu s’en est fallu que je ne devinsse la proie de tous les maux, au milieu de l’assemblée, au sein de la société!"
I have well-nigh fallen into utter misery; In the midst of the congregation and the assembly.”
15 Bois donc l’eau de ta citerne et l’onde qui coule de ta fontaine.
Drink water out of thine own cistern. And running water out of thine own well:
16 Tes sources doivent-elles se répandre au dehors, tes cours d’eau arroser les places publiques?
So shall thy fountains overflow in the streets, In the wide streets, as streams of water;
17 Réserve-les à toi seul; que les étrangers ne les partagent pas avec toi!
They shall belong to thee alone, And not to strangers with thee;
18 Qu’ainsi soit bénie ta source, et puisses-tu trouver la joie dans la femme de ta jeunesse!
And thy fountain shall be blessed, Yea, thou shalt have joy in the wife of thy youth.
19 Biche d’amour, gazelle pleine de grâce, que ses charmes t’enivrent en tout temps, et que son amour t’enthousiasme sans cesse!
A lovely hind, a graceful doe, Her breasts shall satisfy thee at all times, And thou shalt be always ravished with her love.
20 Pourquoi, mon fils, t’éprendre d’une étrangère et prodiguer tes caresses à une autre compagne?
Why, then, my son, wilt thou be ravished with a wanton, And embrace the bosom of a stranger?
21 Car l’Eternel a les yeux fixés sur les voies de l’homme, il observe la trace de tous ses pas.
For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, And he weigheth well all his paths.
22 L’Impie est pris dans ses péchés comme dans un lacet, il s’embarrasse dans les entraves de son crime.
His own iniquities shall ensnare the wicked; Yea, he shall be held fast by the cords of his own sins.
23 II meurt faute de loi morale, égaré par l’excès de sa folie.
He shall die for want of instruction; Yea, through the greatness of his folly he shall stagger.
