Abdias 1
1 Vision d’Obadia. Ainsi parle le Seigneur Dieu au sujet d’Edom: Nous avons entendu une annonce de la part de l’Eternel, un messager a été envoyé parmi les nations: "Debout! Levons-nous contre lui pour combattre!"
The vision of Obadiah. Thus saith the Lord GOD concerning Edom; We have heard a rumour from the LORD, and an ambassador is sent among the heathen, Arise ye, and let us rise up against her in battle.
2 Voici, je te fais petit parmi les peuples, tu es méprisable au possible.
Behold, I have made thee small among the heathen: thou art greatly despised.
3 L’Infatuation de ton cœur t’a égaré, ô toi qui habites les pentes des rochers, qui as établi ta demeure sur les hauteurs et qui dis en toi-même: "Qui pourrait me faire descendre à terre?"
The pride of thine heart hath deceived thee, thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation [is] high; that saith in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground?
4 Quand même tu fixerais ton aire aussi haut que l’aigle et la placerais dans la région des étoiles, je t’en précipiterais, dit l’Eternel.
Though thou exalt [thyself] as the eagle, and though thou set thy nest among the stars, thence will I bring thee down, saith the LORD.
5 Si ce sont des voleurs qui viennent contre toi, des détrousseurs de nuit, comme tu seras éperdu! Ne pilleront-ils pas tout ce qu’ils pourront? Si ce sont des vendangeurs qui viennent contre toi, que laisseront-ils sinon de quoi grappiller?
If thieves came to thee, if robbers by night, (how art thou cut off!) would they not have stolen till they had enough? if the grapegatherers came to thee, would they not leave [some] grapes?
6 Ah! comme Esaü est fouillé en tous sens! comme ses retraites mystérieuses sont mises à découvert!
How are [the things] of Esau searched out! [how] are his hidden things sought up!
7 Ils te poursuivent jusqu’aux frontières, tous ceux qui étaient tes alliés; ils te trompent, ils te maîtrisent, tes prétendus amis! Le pain qu’ils t’apportent, c’est un piège sous tes pas, et tu ne l’as pas compris!
All the men of thy confederacy have brought thee [even] to the border: the men that were at peace with thee have deceived thee, [and] prevailed against thee; [they that eat] thy bread have laid a wound under thee: [there is] none understanding in him.
8 Certes, en ce jour, dit l’Eternel, je ferai disparaître les sages en Edom et la prudence sur le mont d’Esaü.
Shall I not in that day, saith the LORD, even destroy the wise [men] out of Edom, and understanding out of the mount of Esau?
9 Tes guerriers, ô Têmân, seront paralysés, de sorte que tout homme sur le mont d’Esaü soit exterminé lors du carnage.
And thy mighty [men], O Teman, shall be dismayed, to the end that every one of the mount of Esau may be cut off by slaughter.
10 A cause de ta cruauté à l’égard de ton frère Jacob, tu seras couvert de honte, et ta ruine sera éternelle.
For [thy] violence against thy brother Jacob shame shall cover thee, and thou shalt be cut off for ever.
11 Le jour où tu te postas comme spectateur, alors que les barbares emmenaient son armée captive, que l’étranger envahissait ses portes et partageait Jérusalem au sort, toi aussi tu fus comme l’un d’eux.
In the day that thou stoodest on the other side, in the day that the strangers carried away captive his forces, and foreigners entered into his gates, and cast lots upon Jerusalem, even thou [wast] as one of them.
12 Ah! cesse donc d’être un témoin complaisant du jour de ton frère, du jour de son malheur, de triompher des fils de Juda au jour de leur ruine et d’ouvrir aussi grande ta bouche au jour de la détresse!
But thou shouldest not have looked on the day of thy brother in the day that he became a stranger; neither shouldest thou have rejoiced over the children of Judah in the day of their destruction; neither shouldest thou have spoken proudly in the day of distress.
13 Cesse de franchir la porte de mon peuple au jour du revers; au jour du revers, ne te repais point, toi aussi, du spectacle de ses maux; au jour du revers ne fais pas main basse sur ses richesses!
Thou shouldest not have entered into the gate of my people in the day of their calamity; yea, thou shouldest not have looked on their affliction in the day of their calamity, nor have laid [hands] on their substance in the day of their calamity;
14 Ne monte pas la garde à l’angle des routes pour achever ses fuyards, pour livrer ses débris au jour de l’angoisse!
Neither shouldest thou have stood in the crossway, to cut off those of his that did escape; neither shouldest thou have delivered up those of his that did remain in the day of distress.
15 Quand approchera le jour du Seigneur pour toutes les nations, comme tu as fait il te sera fait, tes œuvres retomberont sur ta tête.
For the day of the LORD [is] near upon all the heathen: as thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee: thy reward shall return upon thine own head.
16 Oui, comme vous avez bu sur ma montagne sainte, ainsi les nations boiront sans discontinuer; elles boiront et en perdront la raison, elles seront comme si elles n’avaient jamais été.
For as ye have drunk upon my holy mountain, [so] shall all the heathen drink continually, yea, they shall drink, and they shall swallow down, and they shall be as though they had not been.
17 Mais sur le mont Sion un débris subsistera et sera une chose sainte, et la maison de Jacob rentrera en possession de son patrimoine.
But upon mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions.
18 La maison de Jacob sera un feu, la maison de Joseph une flamme, la maison d’Esaü un amas de chaume: ils le brûleront, ils le consumeront, et rien ne survivra de la maison d’Esaü: c’est l’Eternel qui le dit.
And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble, and they shall kindle in them, and devour them; and there shall not be [any] remaining of the house of Esau; for the LORD hath spoken [it].
19 Le Midi héritera de la montagne d’Esaü, et la Plage, du territoire des Philistins; ils reprendront la campagne d’Ephraïm et la campagne de Samarie, et Benjamin le pays de Galaad.
And [they of] the south shall possess the mount of Esau; and [they of] the plain the Philistines: and they shall possess the fields of Ephraim, and the fields of Samaria: and Benjamin [shall possess] Gilead.
20 Et les exilés de cette légion d’enfants d’Israël, répandus depuis Canaan jusqu’à Çarefat, et les exilés de Jérusalem, répandus dans Sefarad, possèderont les villes du Midi.
And the captivity of this host of the children of Israel [shall possess] that of the Canaanites, [even] unto Zarephath; and the captivity of Jerusalem, which [is] in Sepharad, shall possess the cities of the south.
21 Et des libérateurs monteront sur la montagne de Sion, pour se faire les justiciers du mont d’Esaü; et la royauté appartiendra à l’Eternel.
And saviours shall come up on mount Zion to judge the mount of Esau; and the kingdom shall be the LORD’s.
