1 L’Éternel parla en ces termes à Moïse, dans le désert de Sinaï, dans la tente d’assignation, le premier jour du second mois de la deuxième année après leur sortie du pays d’Egypte:

The Lord spake againe vnto Moses in the wildernesse of Sinai, in the Tabernacle of the Congregation, in the first day of the second moneth, in the second yere after they were come out of the land of Egypt, saying,

2 "Faites le relevé de toute la communauté des enfants d’Israël, selon leurs familles et leurs maisons paternelles, au moyen d’un recensement nominal de tous les mâles, comptés par tête.

Take ye the summe of all the Congregation of the children of Israel, after their families, and housholdes of their fathers with the nomber of their names: to wit, all the males, man by man:

3 Depuis l’âge de vingt ans et au-delà, tous les Israélites aptes au service, vous les classerez selon leurs légions, toi et Aaron.

From twentie yere olde and aboue, all that go forth to the warre in Israel, thou and Aaron shall number them, throughout their armies.

4 Vous vous adjoindrez un homme par tribu, un homme qui soit chef de sa famille paternelle.

And with you shalbe men of euery tribe, such as are the heads of the house of their fathers.

5 Or, voici les noms des hommes qui vous assisteront: pour la tribu de Ruben, Eliçour, fils de Chedéour;

And these are the names of the men that shall stand with you, of the tribe of Reuben, Elizur, the sonne of Shedeur:

6 pour Siméon, Cheloumïel, fils de Çourichaddaï;

Of Simeon, Shelumiel the sonne of Zurishaddai:

7 pour Juda, Nahchôn, fils d’Amminadab;

Of Iudah, Nahshon the sonne of Amminadab:

8 pour Issachar, Nethanel, fils de Çouar;

Of Issachar, Nethaneel, the sonne of Zuar:

9 pour Zabulon, Elïab, fils de Hêlôn;

Of Zebulun, Eliab, the sonne of Helon:

10 pour les fils de Joseph: pour Ephraïm, Elichama, fils d’Ammihoud; pour Manassé, Gamliel, fils de Pedahçour;

Of the children of Ioseph: of Ephraim, Elishama the sonne of Ammihud: of Manasseh, Gamliel, the sonne of Pedahzur:

11 pour Benjamin, Abidân, fils de Ghidoni;

Of Beiamin, Abida the sonne of Gideoni:

12 pour Dan, Ahïézer, fils d’Ammichaddaï;

Of Dan, Ahiezer, the sonne of Ammishaddai:

13 pour Aser, Paghïel, fils d’Okrân;

Of Asher, Pagiel, the sonne of Ocran:

14 pour Gad, Elyaçaf, fils de Deouêl;

Of Gad, Eliasaph, the sonne of Deuel:

15 pour Nephtali, Ahira, fils d’Enân.

Of Naphtali, Ahira the sonne of Enan.

16 Ceux-là sont les élus de la communauté, princes de leurs tribus paternelles; ce sont les chefs des familles d’Israël."

These were famous in the Congregation, princes of the tribes of their fathers, and heads ouer thousands in Israel.

17 Moïse et Aaron s’adjoignirent ces hommes, désignés par leurs noms.

The Moses and Aaron tooke these men which are expressed by their names.

18 Puis ils convoquèrent toute la communauté, le premier jour du second mois; et on les enregistra selon leurs familles et leurs maisons paternelles, en comptant par noms ceux qui avaient vingt ans et plus, chacun individuellement,

And they called all the Congregation together, in the first day of the second moneth, who declared their kindreds by their families, and by the houses of their fathers, according to the nomber of their names, from twentie yere olde and aboue, man by man.

19 ainsi que l’Éternel l’avait prescrit à Moïse. Leur dénombrement eut lieu dans le désert de Sinaï.

As the Lord had commanded Moses, so he nombred them in the wildernesse of Sinai.

20 Les descendants de Ruben, premier-né d’Israël, étant classés selon leur origine, leurs familles, leurs maisons paternelles: d’après le compte nominal et par tête, pour tout mâle âgé de vingt ans et plus, apte au service,

So were the sonnes of Reuben Israels eldest sonne by their generations, by their families, and by the houses of their fathers, according to the nomber of their names, man by man euery male from twentie yere olde and aboue, as many as went forth to warre:

21 les recensés, dans la tribu de Ruben, se montèrent à quarante-six mille cinq cents.

The nomber of them, I say, of the tribe of Reuben, was sixe and fourtie thousande, and fiue hundreth.

22 Pour les descendants de Siméon, classés selon leur origine, leurs familles, leurs maisons paternelles, recensés d’après le compte nominal et par tête de tout mâle âgé de vingt ans et plus, aptes au service,

Of the sonnes of Simeon by their generatios, by their families, and by the houses of their fathers, the summe therof by the nomber of their names, man by man, euery male from twentie yeere olde and aboue, all that went forth to warre:

23 les recensés, dans la tribu de Siméon, se montèrent à cinquante-neuf mille trois cents.

The summe of them, I say, of the tribe of Simeon was nine and fiftie thousande, and three hundreth.

24 Pour les descendants de Gad, classés selon leur origine, leurs familles, leurs maisons paternelles: d’après le compte nominal de tous les hommes âgés de vingt ans et plus, aptes au service,

Of the sonnes of Gad by their generations, by their families, and by the houses of their fathers, according to the nomber of their names, from twentie yere olde and aboue, all that went forth to warre:

25 les recensés, dans la tribu de Gad, se montèrent à quarante-cinq mille six cent cinquante.

The number of them, I say, of the tribe of Gad was fiue and fourtie thousand, and six hundreth and fiftie.

26 Pour les descendants de Juda, classés selon leur origine, leurs familles, leurs maisons paternelles: d’après le compte nominal de tous les hommes âgés de vingt ans et plus, aptes au service,

Of the sonnes of Iudah by their generations, by their families, and by the houses of their fathers, according to the nomber of their names, from twentie yere olde and aboue, all that went forth to warre:

27 les recensés, dans la tribu de Juda, se montèrent à soixante-quatorze mille six cents.

The nomber of them, I say, of the tribe of Iudah was three score and fourteene thousande, and sixe hundreth.

28 Pour les descendants d’Issachar, classés par origine, familles, maisons paternelles: d’après le compte nominal de tous les hommes âgés de vingt ans et plus, aptes au service,

29 les recensés, dans la tribu d’lssachar, se montèrent à cinquante-quatre mille quatre cents.

The nomber of them also of the tribe of Issachar was foure and fiftie thousande and foure hundreth.

30 Pour les descendants de Zabulon, classés par origine, familles, maisons paternelles: suivant le compte nominal de tous les hommes âgés de vingt ans et plus, aptes au service,

31 les recensés, dans la tribu de Zabulon, se montèrent à cinquante-sept mille quatre cents.

The nomber of them also of the tribe of Zebulun was seuen and fiftie thousand and foure hundreth.

32 Quant aux tribus issues de Joseph: pour les descendants d’Ephraïm, classés selon leur origine, leurs familles, leurs maisons paternelles: suivant le compte nominal de tous les hommes âgés de vingt ans et plus, aptes au service,

Of the sonnes of Ioseph, namely of the sonnes of Ephraim by their generations, by their families, and by the houses of their fathers, according to the nomber of their names, from twentie yeere olde and aboue, all that went foorth to warre:

33 les recensés, dans la tribu d’Ephraïm, se montèrent à quarante mille cinq cents.

The nomber of them also of the tribe of Ephraim was fourtie thousande and fiue hundreth.

34 Pour les descendants de Manassé, classés selon leur origine, leurs familles, leurs maisons paternelles: d’après le compte nominal de tous les hommes âgés de vingt ans et plus, aptes au service,

Of the sonnes of Manasseh by their generations, by their families, and by the houses of their fathers, according to the nomber of their names, from twentie yeere olde and aboue, all that went foorth to warre:

35 les recensés, dans la tribu de Manassé, se montèrent à trente-deux mille deux cents.

The nober of the also of ye tribe of Manasseh was two and thirtie thousand and two hundreth.

36 Pour les descendants de Benjamin, classés par origine, familles, maisons paternelles: suivant le compte nominal de tous les hommes âgés de vingt ans et plus, aptes au service,

40 Pour les descendants d’Asher, classés par origine, familles, maisons paternelles: suivant le compte nominal de tous les hommes âgés de vingt ans et plus, aptes au service,

Of the sonnes of Asher by their generations, by their families, and by the houses of their fathers, according to the number of their names, from twentie yeere olde and aboue, all that went foorth to warre:

41 les recensés, dans la tribu d’Asher, se montèrent à quarante et un mille cinq cents.

The nomber of them also of ye tribe of Asher was one and fourtie thousand and fiue hudreth.

42 Les descendants de Nephtali étant classés selon leur origine, leurs familles, leurs maisons paternelles: d’après le compte nominal de tous les hommes âgés de vingt ans et plus, aptes au service,

Of the children of Naphtali, by their generations, by their families, and by the houses of their fathers, according to the nomber of their names, from twentie yeere olde and aboue, all that went to the warre:

43 les recensés, dans la tribu de Nephtali, se montèrent à cinquante-trois mille quatre cents.

The nomber of them also of the tribe of Naphtali, was three and fiftie thousand, and foure hundreth.

44 Tel fut le dénombrement opéré par Moïse et Aaron conjointement avec les phylarques d’Israël, lesquels étaient douze, un homme par famille paternelle.

These are the summes which Moses, and Aaron nombred, and the Princes of Israel, the twelue men, which were euery one for the house of their fathers.

45 Le total des Israélites recensés selon leurs maisons paternelles, de tous ceux qui, âgés de vingt ans et au-delà, étaient propres au service en Israël,

So this was all the summe of the sonnes of Israel, by the houses of their fathers, from twenty yeere olde and aboue, all that went to the warre in Israel,

46 le total de ces recensés fut de six cent trois mille cinq cent cinquante.

And all they were in nomber sixe hudreth and three thousande, fiue hundreth and fiftie.

47 Quant aux Lévites, eu égard à leur tribu paternelle, ils ne figurèrent point dans ce dénombrement.

But the Leuites, after the tribes of their fathers were not nombred among them.

48 Et l’Éternel parla ainsi à Moïse:

For the Lord had spoken vnto Moses, and said,

49 "Pour ce qui est de la tribu de Lévi, tu ne la recenseras ni n’en feras le relevé en la comptant avec les autres enfants d’Israël.

Onely thou shalt not number the tribe of Leui, neither take the summe of them among the children of Israel:

50 Mais tu préposeras les Lévites au tabernacle du statut, à tout son attirail et à tout ce qui le concerne: ce sont eux qui porteront le tabernacle et tout son attirail, eux qui en feront le service, et qui doivent camper à l’entour.

But thou shalt appoynt the Leuites ouer the Tabernacle of the Testimonie, and ouer all the instruments thereof, and ouer all things that belong to it: they shall beare the Tabernacle, and all the instruments thereof, and shall minister in it, and shall dwell round about the Tabernacle.

51 Quand le tabernacle devra partir, ce sont les Lévites qui le démonteront, et quand il devra s’arrêter, ce sont eux qui le dresseront; le profane qui en approcherait serait frappé de mort.

And when the Tabernacle goeth forth, the Leuites shall take it downe: and when the Tabernacle is to be pitched, ye Leuites shall set it vp: for the stranger that commeth neere, shalbe slaine.

52 Les enfants d’Israël se fixeront chacun dans son camp et chacun sous sa bannière, selon leurs légions;

Also the children of Israel shall pitch their tentes, euery man in his campe, and euery man vnder his standerd throughout their armies.

53 et les Lévites camperont autour du tabernacle du statut, afin que la colère divine ne sévisse point sur la communauté des enfants d’Israël; et les Lévites auront sous leur garde le tabernacle du statut."

But the Leuites shall pitch rounde about the Tabernacle of the Testimonie, least vengeance come vpon the Congregation of the children of Israel, and the Leuites shall take the charge of the Tabernacle of the Testimonie.

54 Les Israélites obéirent: tout ce que l’Éternel avait ordonné à Moïse, ils s’y conformèrent.

So the children of Israel did according to all that ye Lord had comanded Moses: so did they.
