1 L’Éternel parla à Moïse en ces termes:
And YHWH speaks to Moses, saying,
2 "Parle à Aaron et dis-lui: Quand tu disposeras les lampes, c’est vis-à-vis de la face du candélabre que les sept lampes doivent projeter la lumière."
“Speak to Aaron, and you have said to him: In your causing the lights to go up, the seven lights give light toward the front of the face of the lampstand.”
3 Ainsi fit Aaron: c’est vis-à-vis de la face du candélabre qu’il en disposa les lampes, comme l’Éternel l’avait ordonné à Moïse.
And Aaron does so; he has caused its lights to go up toward the front of the face of the lampstand, as YHWH has commanded Moses.
4 Quant à la confection du candélabre, il était tout d’une pièce, en or; jusqu’à sa base, jusqu’à ses fleurs, c’était une seule pièce. D’Après la forme que l’Éternel avait indiquée à Moïse, ainsi avait-on fabriqué le candélabre.
And this [is] the work of the lampstand: beaten work of gold; from its thigh to its flower it [is] beaten work; as the appearance which YHWH showed Moses, so he has made the lampstand.
5 L’Éternel parla à Moïse en ces termes:
And YHWH speaks to Moses, saying,
6 "Prends les Lévites du milieu des enfants d’Israël, et purifie-les.
“Take the Levites from the midst of the sons of Israel, and you have cleansed them.
7 Voici ce que tu leur feras pour les purifier: tu les aspergeras d’eau expiatoire. Ils passeront le rasoir sur tout leur corps, laveront leurs vêtements et se purifieront.
And thus you do to them to cleanse them: sprinkle waters of atonement on them, and they have caused a razor to pass over all their flesh, and have washed their garments, and cleansed themselves,
8 Puis ils prendront un jeune taureau, avec son oblation: de la fleur de farine pétrie à l’huile; et un autre jeune taureau, que tu recevras comme expiatoire.
and have taken a bullock, a son of the herd, and its present, flour mixed with oil, and you take a second bullock, a son of the herd, for a sin-offering;
9 Tu feras avancer les Lévites devant la tente d’assignation, et tu assembleras toute la communauté des enfants d’Israël.
and you have brought the Levites near before the Tent of Meeting, and you have assembled all the congregation of the sons of Israel,
10 Tu feras avancer les Lévites en présence du Seigneur, et les enfants d’Israël imposeront leurs mains sur les Lévites.
and you have brought the Levites near before YHWH, and the sons of Israel have laid their hands on the Levites,
11 Et Aaron fera le balancement des Lévites devant le Seigneur, de la part des enfants d’Israël, pour qu’ils soient consacrés au service du Seigneur.
and Aaron has waved the Levites [as] a wave-offering before YHWH, from the sons of Israel, and they have been [consecrated] for doing the service of YHWH.
12 Et les Lévites appuieront leurs mains sur la tête des taureaux; fais alors offrir l’un comme expiatoire et l’autre comme holocauste au Seigneur, pour faire propitiation sur les Lévites.
And the Levites lay their hands on the head of the bullocks, and make one a sin-offering and one a burnt-offering to YHWH, to atone for the Levites.
13 Puis tu placeras les Lévites en présence d’Aaron et de ses fils, et tu opéreras leur balancement à l’intention du Seigneur.
And you have caused the Levites to stand before Aaron, and before his sons, and have waved them [as] a wave-offering to YHWH;
14 Tu distingueras ainsi les Lévites entre les enfants d’Israël, de sorte que les Lévites soient à moi.
and you have separated the Levites from the midst of the sons of Israel, and the Levites have become Mine;
15 Alors seulement les Lévites seront admis à desservir la tente d’assignation, quand tu les auras purifiés et que tu auras procédé à leur balancement.
and afterward the Levites come in to serve the Tent of Meeting, and you have cleansed them, and have waved them [as] a wave-offering.
16 Car ils me sont réservés, à moi, entre les enfants d’Israël: en échange de tout premier fruit des entrailles, de tout premier-né parmi les enfants d’Israël, je me les suis attribués.
For they are certainly given to Me out of the midst of the sons of Israel, instead of him who opens any womb—the firstborn of all; I have taken them for Myself from the sons of Israel;
17 Car tout premier-né m’appartient chez les enfants d’Israël, homme ou bête; le jour où je frappai tous les premiers-nés dans le pays d’Egypte, je me les consacrai.
for every firstborn among the sons of Israel [is] Mine, among man and among beast; in the day of My striking every firstborn in the land of Egypt I sanctified them for Myself;
18 Or, j’ai pris les Lévites en échange de tous les premiers-nés des enfants d’Israël;
and I take the Levites instead of every firstborn among the sons of Israel.
19 et je les ai donnés, comme adjoints, à Aaron et à ses fils, entre les enfants d’Israël, pour faire l’office des enfants d’Israël dans la tente d’assignation, et pour servir de rançon aux enfants d’Israël: de peur qu’il n’y ait une catastrophe parmi les enfants d’Israël, si ceux-ci s’approchent des choses saintes."
And I give the Levites [as] gifts to Aaron and to his sons, from the midst of the sons of Israel, to do the service of the sons of Israel in the Tent of Meeting, and to make atonement for the sons of Israel, and there is no plague among the sons of Israel in the sons of Israel drawing near to the holy place.”
20 Ainsi firent Moïse et Aaron et toute la communauté des Israélites à l’égard des Lévites; selon tout ce que l’Éternel avait prescrit à Moïse touchant les Lévites, ainsi leur firent les enfants d’Israël.
And Moses does—Aaron also, and all the congregation of the sons of Israel—to the Levites according to all that YHWH has commanded Moses concerning the Levites; so the sons of Israel have done to them.
21 Les Lévites se purifièrent, ils lavèrent leurs vêtements; Aaron effectua leur balancement devant l’Éternel, et il fit propitiation sur eux pour les rendre purs.
And the Levites cleanse themselves, and wash their garments, and Aaron waves them [as] a wave-offering before YHWH, and Aaron makes atonement for them to cleanse them,
22 C’Est alors que les Lévites entrèrent en fonction dans la tente d’assignation, en présence d’Aaron et de ses fils. D’Après ce que l’Éternel avait prescrit à Moïse au sujet des Lévites, ainsi procéda-t-on à leur égard.
and afterward the Levites have gone in to do their service in the Tent of Meeting, before Aaron and before his sons; as YHWH has commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so they have done to them.
23 L’Éternel parla à Moïse en ces termes:
And YHWH speaks to Moses, saying,
24 "Ceci concerne encore les Lévites: celui qui sera âgé de vingt-cinq ans et au-delà sera admis à participer au service requis par la tente d’assignation;
“This [is] who [is] for the Levites: from a son of twenty-five years and upward he goes in to serve the host in the service of the Tent of Meeting,
25 mais, passé l’âge de cinquante ans, il se retirera du service actif et ne travaillera plus.
and from a son of fifty years he returns from the host of the service, and does not serve anymore,
26 Il aidera ses frères dans la tente d’assignation en veillant à sa garde, mais il n’exécutera point de corvée. C’Est ainsi que tu en useras pour les Lévites, selon leurs fonctions."
and he has ministered with his brothers in the Tent of Meeting, to keep the charge, and does not do service; thus you do to the Levites concerning their charge.”
