1 Or, à la suite de cette mortalité, l’Éternel dit à Moïse et à Eléazar, fils d’Aaron le pontife, ce qui suit:
And it came to pass after the plague, that the LORD spoke to Moses, and to Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, saying,
2 "Faites le relevé de la communauté entière des enfants d’Israël, depuis l’âge de vingt ans et au-delà, par familles paternelles; de tous ceux qui sont aptes au service en Israël."
Take the sum of all the congregation of the children of Israel, from twenty years old and upward, throughout their fathers' house, all that are able to go to war in Israel.
3 Moïse et Eléazar le pontife leur en firent part, dans les plaines de Moab, au bord du Jourdain faisant face à Jéricho, en disant:
And Moses and Eleazar the priest spoke with them in the plains of Moab by Jordan [near] Jericho, saying,
4 "…Depuis l’âge de vingt ans et au-delà; ainsi que l’Éternel l’avait prescrit à Moïse et aux enfants d’Israël, lorsqu’ils furent sortis du pays d’Egypte."
[Take the sum of the people], from twenty years old and upward; as the LORD commanded Moses and the children of Israel, who went forth from the land of Egypt.
5 Ruben, premier-né d’Israël. Les fils de Ruben: Hénok, d’où la famille des Hénokites; de Pallou, la famille des Pallouïtes;
Reuben the eldest son of Israel: the children of Reuben; Hanoch, [of whom cometh] the family of the Hanochites: Of Phallu, the family of the Phalluites:
6 de Heçrôn, la famille des Heçronites; de Karmi, la famille des Karmites.
Of Hezron, the family of the Hezronites: of Carmi, the family of the Carmites.
7 Telles sont les familles issues de Ruben; on y compta quarante-trois mille sept cent trente hommes.
These [are] the families of the Reubenites: and they that were numbered of them were forty and three thousand and seven hundred and thirty.
8 Fils de Pallou: Eliab.
And the sons of Phallu; Eliab.
9 Fils d’Eliab: Nemouêl, Dathan et Abiram. C’Est ce Dathan et cet Abiram, dignitaires de la communauté, qui s’attaquèrent à Moïse et à Aaron avec la faction de Coré, lorsque celle-ci s’attaqua à l’Éternel.
And the sons of Eliab; Nemuel, and Dathan, and Abiram. This [is that] Dathan and Abiram, [who were] famous in the congregation, who strove against Moses and against Aaron in the company of Korah, when they strove against the LORD:
10 Mais la terre ouvrit son sein et les engloutit avec Coré, pendant que périssait le reste du parti, que le feu consumait les deux cent cinquante hommes, frappés pour l’exemple.
And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up together with Korah, when that company died, when the fire devoured two hundred and fifty men: and they became a sign.
11 Quant aux fils de Coré, ils ne périrent point.
Notwithstanding the children of Korah died not.
12 Fils de Siméon, selon leurs familles: de Nemouêl, la famille des Nemouêlites; de Yamîn, la famille des Yaminites; de Yakhîn, la famille des Yakhinites;
The sons of Simeon after their families: of Nemuel, the family of the Nemuelites: of Jamin, the family of the Jaminites: of Jachin, the family of the Jachinites:
13 de Zérah, la famille des Zarhites; de Chaoul, la famille des Chaoulites.
Of Zerah, the family of the Zarhites: of Shaul, the family of the Shaulites.
14 Telles sont les familles issues de Siméon: vingt-deux mille deux cents hommes.
These [are] the families of the Simeonites, twenty and two thousand and two hundred.
15 Fils de Gad, selon leurs familles: de Cefôn, la famille des Cefonites; de Hagghi, la famille des Hagghites; de Chouni, la famille des Chounites;
The children of Gad after their families: of Zephon, the family of the Zephonites: of Haggai, the family of the Haggites: of Shuni, the family of the Shunites:
16 d’Ozni, la famille des Oznites; de Eri, la famille des Erites;
Of Ozni, the family of the Oznites: of Eri, the family of the Erites:
17 d’Arod, la famille des Arodites; d’Arêli, la famille des Arêlites.
Of Arod, the family of the Arodites: of Areli, the family of the Arelites.
18 Telles sont les familles des fils de Gad, selon leur dénombrement: quarante mille cinq cents hommes.
These [are] the families of the children of Gad, according to those that were numbered of them, forty thousand and five hundred.
19 Fils de Juda: Er et Onân; mais Er et Onân moururent dans le pays de Canaan.
The sons of Judah [were] Er and Onan: and Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan.
20 Les autres fils de Juda furent, selon leurs familles: Chêla, d’où la famille des Chêlanites; de Péreç, la famille des Parcites; de Zérah, la famille des Zarhites.
And the sons of Judah after their families were; of Shelah, the family of the Shelanites: of Pharez, the family of the Pharezites: of Zerah, the family of the Zarhites.
21 Les fils de Péreç furent: Heçrôn, d’où la famille des Heçronites; Hamoul, d’où la famille des Hamoulites.
And the sons of Pharez were; of Hezron, the family of the Hezronites: of Hamul, the family of the Hamulites.
22 Telles sont les familles de Juda, selon leur dénombrement: soixante-seize mille cinq cents hommes.
These [are] the families of Judah according to those that were numbered of them, seventy six thousand and five hundred.
23 Fils d’Issachar, selon leurs familles: Tola, d’où la famille des Tolaïtes; Pouvva, d’où la famille des Pounites;
[Of] the sons of Issachar after their families: [of] Tola, the family of the Tolaites: of Pua, the family of the Punites:
24 de Yachoub, la famille des Yachoubites; de Chimrôn, la famille des Chimronites.
Of Jashub, the family of the Jashubites: of Shimron, the family of the Shimronites.
25 Telles sont les familles d’Issachar, selon leur dénombrement: soixante-quatre mille trois cents hommes.
These [are] the families of Issachar according to those that were numbered of them, sixty four thousand and three hundred.
26 Fils de Zabulon, selon leurs familles: de Séred, la famille des Sardites; d’Elôn, la famille des Elonites; de Yahleêl, la famille des Yahleêlites.
[Of] the sons of Zebulun after their families: of Sered, the family of the Sardites: of Elon, the family of the Elonites: of Jahleel, the family of the Jahleelites.
27 Telles sont les familles issues de Zabulon, selon leur dénombrement: soixante mille cinq cents hommes.
These [are] the families of the Zebulunites according to those that were numbered of them, sixty thousand and five hundred.
28 Fils de Joseph, selon leurs familles: Manassé et Ephraïm.
The sons of Joseph after their families [were] Manasseh and Ephraim.
29 Fils de Manassé: Makhir, d’où la famille des Makhirites. Makhir engendra Ghilad: de Ghilad, la famille des Ghiladites.
Of the sons of Manasseh: of Machir, the family of the Machirites: and Machir begat Gilead: of Gilead [come] the family of the Gileadites.
30 Suivent les fils de Ghllad: lézer, d’où la famille des lézrites; de Hêlek, la famille des Hélkites;
These [are] the sons of Gilead: [of] Jeezer, the family of the Jeezerites: of Helek, the family of the Helekites:
31 puis Asriêl, d’où la famille des Asriêlites; Chékem, d’où la famille des Chikmites;
And [of] Asriel, the family of the Asrielites: and [of] Shechem, the family of the Shechemites:
32 Chemida, d’où la famille des Chemidaïtes; de Héfer, la famille des Héfrites.
And [of] Shemida, the family of the Shemidaites: and [of] Hepher, the family of the Hepherites.
33 Celofhad, fils de Héfer, n’eut point de fils, mais seulement des filles. Les filles de Celofhad se nommaient: Mahla, Nos, Hogla, Milca et Tirça.
And Zelophehad the son of Hepher had no sons, but daughters: and the names of the daughters of Zelophehad [were] Mahlah, and Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.
34 Ce sont là les familles de Manassé: on y comptait cinquante-deux mille sept cents hommes.
These [are] the families of Manasseh, and those that were numbered of them, fifty and two thousand and seven hundred.
35 Ceux-ci sont les fils d’Ephraïm, selon leurs familles: de Choutélah, la famille des Choutalhites; de Béker, la famille des Bakrites; de Tahân, la famille des Tahanites.
These [are] the sons of Ephraim after their families: of Shuthelah, the family of the Shuthalhites: of Becher, the family of the Bachrites: of Tahan, the family of the Tahanites.
36 Et ceux-ci sont les descendants de Choutélah: Erân, d’où la famille des Eranites.
And these [are] the sons of Shuthelah: of Eran, the family of the Eranites.
37 Telles sont les familles des fils d’Ephraïm, selon leur dénombrement: trente-deux mille cinq cents hommes. Tels sont les descendants de Joseph, selon leurs familles.
These [are] the families of the sons of Ephraim according to those that were numbered of them, thirty and two thousand and five hundred. These [are] the sons of Joseph after their families.
38 Fils de Benjamin, selon leurs familles: de Béla, la famille des Balites; d’Achbêl, la famille des Achbélites; d’Ahiram, la famille des Ahiramites;
The sons of Benjamin after their families: of Bela, the family of the Belaites: of Ashbel, the family of the Ashbelites: of Ahiram, the family of the Ahiramites:
39 de Chefoufam, la famille des Chefoufamites; de Houfam, la famille des Houfamites.
Of Shupham, the family of the Shuphamites: of Hupham, the family of the Huphamites.
40 Béla eut pour fils Ard' et Naamân: d’où la famille des Ardites, et de Naamân, la famille des Naamites.
And the sons of Bela were Ard and Naaman: [of Ard], the family of the Ardites: [and] of Naaman, the family of the Naamites.
41 Tels sont les descendants de Benjamin, selon leurs familles: on y compta quarante-cinq mille six cents hommes.
These [are] the sons of Benjamin after their families: and they that were numbered of them [were] forty and five thousand and six hundred.
42 Voici les descendants de Dan, selon leurs familles: de Chouham, la famille des Chouhamites. Ce sont là les familles de Dan, compté selon ses familles.
These [are] the sons of Dan after their families: of Shuham, the family of the Shuhamites. These [are] the families of Dan after their families.
43 Total des familles issues de Chouham, d’après leur dénombrement: soixante-quatre mille quatre cents hommes.
All the families of the Shuhamites according to those that were numbered of them [were] sixty and four thousand and four hundred.
44 Fils d’Asher, selon leurs familles: de Yimna, la famille des Yimna; de Yichvi, la famille des Yichvites; de Berïa, la famille des Beriites.
[Of] the children of Asher after their families: of Jimna, the family of the Jimnites: of Jesui, the family of the Jesuites: of Beriah, the family of the Beriites.
45 Pour les fils de Berïa: de Héber, la famille des Hébrites; de Malkiêl, la famille des Malkiélites.
Of the sons of Beriah: of Heber, the family of the Heberites: of Malchiel, the family of the Malchielites.
46 Puis la fille d’Asher, nommée Sérah.
And the name of the daughter of Asher [was] Sarah.
47 Telles sont les familles des fils d’Asher, selon leur dénombrement: cinquante-trois mille quatre cents hommes.
These [are] the families of the sons of Asher according to those that were numbered of them; [who were] fifty and three thousand and four hundred.
48 Fils de Nephtali, selon leurs familles: de Yahceêl, la famille des Yahceélites; de Gouni, la famille des Gounites;
[Of] the sons of Naphtali after their families: of Jahzeel, the family of the Jahzeelites: of Guni, the family of the Gunites:
49 de Yêcer, la famille des Yiçrites; de Chillem, la famille des Chillémites.
Of Jezer, the family of the Jezerites: of Shillem, the family of the Shillemites.
50 Telles sont les familles de Nephtali, compté selon ses familles; leur dénombrement donna quarante-cinq mille quatre cents hommes.
These [are] the families of Naphtali according to their families: and they that were numbered of them, [were] forty and five thousand and four hundred.
51 Résultat du dénombrement des enfants d’Israël: six cent un mille sept cent trente hommes.
These [were] the numbered of the children of Israel, six hundred thousand and a thousand seven hundred and thirty.
52 L’Éternel parla à Moïse en ces termes:
And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
53 "C’Est entre ceux-là que le pays sera partagé comme héritage, selon le relevé des noms.
To these the land shall be divided for an inheritance, according to the number of names.
54 Aux plus nombreux tu donneras une plus grande part, aux moins nombreux une part inférieure: chaque tribu recevra sa part selon le chiffre de sa population.
To many thou shalt give the more inheritance, and to few thou shalt give the less inheritance: to every one shall his inheritance be given, according to those that were numbered of him.
55 Toutefois, c’est au sort qu’on distribuera le pays; chacun aura son lot selon la désignation de sa tribu paternelle.
Notwithstanding, the land shall be divided by lot: according to the names of the tribes of their fathers they shall inherit.
56 Ce lot sera attribué par la voie du sort, que la famille soit considérable ou non."
According to the lot shall the possession of it be divided between many and few.
57 Voici maintenant le relevé des Lévites, selon leurs familles: pour Gerson, la famille des Gersonites; pour Kehath, la famille des Kehathites; pour Merari, la famille des Merarites.
And these [are] they that were numbered of the Levites after their families: of Gershon, the family of the Gershonites: of Kohath, the family of the Kohathites: of Merari, the family of the Merarites.
58 Voici les familles Issues de Lévi: la famille des Libnites, la famille des Hébronites, celle des Mahlites, celle des Mouchites, celle des Coréites. Kehath engendra Amram.
These [are] the families of the Levites: the family of the Libnites, the family of the Hebronites, the family of the Mahlites, the family of the Mushites, the family of the Korathites. And Kohath begat Amram.
59 Et le nom de l’épouse d’Amram était Jocabed, fille de Lévi, laquelle naquit à Lévi en Egypte. Elle enfanta à Amram Aaron, Moïse et Miryam, leur sœur.
And the name of Amram's wife [was] Jochebed, the daughter of Levi, whom [her mother] bore to Levi in Egypt: and she bore to Amram Aaron and Moses, and Miriam their sister.
60 Aaron eut pour fils Nadab et Abihou, Eléazar et Ithamar;
And to Aaron was born Nadab, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.
61 mais Nadab et Abihou moururent, pour avoir apporté un feu profane devant le Seigneur.
And Nadab and Abihu died, when they offered strange fire before the LORD.
62 Or, leur population dénombrée se monta à vingt-trois mille mâles âgés d’un mois et au-dessus; car ils n’avaient point figuré dans le recensement des enfants d’Israël, n’ayant point reçu de patrimoine comme ceux-ci.
And those that were numbered of them were twenty and three thousand, all males from a month old and upward: for they were not numbered among the children of Israel, because there was no inheritance given them among the children of Israel.
63 Tel fut le résultat du recensement opéré par Moïse, et le pontife Eléazar à l’égard des enfants d’Israël, dans les plaines de Moab, près du Jourdain, vers Jéricho.
These [are] they that were numbered by Moses and Eleazar the priest, who numbered the children of Israel in the plains of Moab by Jordan [near] Jericho.
64 Parmi eux ne se trouvait pas un seul homme de ceux qu’avait recensés Moïse et le pontife Aaron, lorsqu’ils avaient dénombré les Israélites dans le désert de Sinaï.
But among these there was not a man of them whom Moses and Aaron the priest numbered, when they numbered the children of Israel in the wilderness of Sinai.
65 Car l’Éternel avait déclaré, quant à ceux-là, qu’ils devaient mourir dans le désert; et aucun d’eux n’avait survécu, excepté Caleb, fils de Yefounné, et Josué, fils de Noun.
For the LORD had said of them, They shall surely die in the wilderness. And there was not left a man of them, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.
