Néhémie 8
1 Tout le peuple se réunit ensemble, comme un seul homme, sur la place qui s’étend devant la porte de l’eau. On demanda à Ezra, le scribe, d’apporter le livre de la loi de Moïse, que l’Eternel avait prescrite à Israël.
And all the people assembled themselues together, in the streete that was before the watergate, and they spake vnto Ezra the Scribe, that hee would bring the booke of ye Law of Moses, which the Lord had commanded to Israel.
2 Ezra le prêtre apporta la Thora devant l’assemblée hommes et femmes et quiconque était capable de comprendre le premier jour du septième mois.
And Ezra the Priest brought the Lawe before the Congregation both of men and women, and of all that coulde heare and vnderstand it, in the first day of the seuenth moneth,
3 Il en fit la lecture devant la place qui précède la porte de l’eau, depuis l’aurore jusqu’au milieu de la journée, en présence des hommes, des femmes et de tous ceux qui pouvaient comprendre. Le peuple était tout oreille pour entendre le livre de la loi.
And he read therein in the streete that was before the watergate (from the morning vntill the midday) before men and women, and them that vnderstoode it, and the eares of all the people hearkened vnto the booke of the Lawe.
4 Ezra se tenait sur une estrade en bois, qu’on avait élevée pour la circonstance; à côté de lui, à sa droite, étaient placés Matitia, Chéma, Anaïa, Ourla, Hilkia, Maassèya; à sa gauche, Pedaïa, Michaël, Malkia, Hachoum, Hachbaddana, Zacharie, Mechoullam.
And Ezra the Scribe stoode vpon a pulpit of wood which he had made for the preaching, and beside him stood Mattithiah, and Shema, and Ananiah, and Vriiah, and Hilkiah, and Maaseiah on his right hande, and on his left hand Pedaiah, and Mishael, and Malchiah, and Hashum, and Hashbadana, Zechariah, and Meshullam.
5 Ezra ouvrit le livre aux yeux de tout le peuple, car il dominait tout le peuple, et au moment où il l’ouvrit, tout le peuple se mit debout.
And Ezra opened the booke before all the people: for hee was aboue all the people: and when he opened it, all the people stoode vp.
6 Ezra bénit l’Eternel, le Dieu grand, et tout le peuple s’écria: "Amen! Amen!" en élevant les mains; puis ils s’inclinèrent et se prosternèrent devant l’Eternel, le visage à terre.
And Ezra praysed the Lord the great God, and all the people answered, Amen, Amen, with lifting vp their handes: and they bowed themselues, and worshipped the Lord with their faces toward the grounde.
7 Yêchoua, Bâni, Chèrèbia, Yamîn, Akkoub, Chabbetaï, Hodia, Maasèya, Kelita, Azaria, Yozabad, Hanân, Pelaïa et les autres Lévites expliquaient la Thora au peuple, tandis qu’il se tenait à sa place.
Also Ieshua, and Bani, and Sherebiah, Iamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodiiah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Iozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Leuites caused the people to vnderstand the lawe, and the people stood in their place.
8 Ils faisaient la lecture du livre, de la loi de Moïse, d’une manière distincte et en indiquaient le sens, de sorte que l’on comprit le texte.
And they read in the booke of the Lawe of God distinctly, and gaue the sense, and caused them to vnderstand the reading.
9 Néhémie, à savoir le gouverneur, ainsi qu’Ezra, le prêtre et scribe, et les Lévites qui instruisaient le peuple, dit au peuple tout entier: "Ce jour est consacré à l’Eternel, votre Dieu; ne manifestez pas de deuil et ne pleurez point!" Car tout le peuple pleurait en entendant les paroles de la Thora.
Then Nehemiah (which is Tirshatha) and Ezra the Priest and scribe, and the Leuites that instructed the people, saide vnto all the people, This day is holie vnto ye Lord your God: mourne not, neither weepe: for all the people wept, whe they heard the words of the Lawe.
10 Il ajouta: "Allez, mangez des mets succulents, buvez des breuvages doux et envoyez-en des portions à ceux qui n’ont rien d’apprêté, car ce jour est consacré à notre Seigneur. Ne vous attristez donc pas, car la joie en l’Eternel est votre force."
He saide also vnto the, Go, and eate of the fat, and drinke the sweete, and send part vnto them, for whome none is prepared: for this day is holie vnto our Lord: be ye not sorie therefore: for the ioy of the Lord is your strength.
11 Cependant, les Lévites calmaient le peuple en disant: "Faites silence, car ce jour est saint: ne vous attristez donc pas!"
And the Leuites made silence throughout all the people, saying, Holde your peace: for the day is holy, be not sad therefore.
12 Tout le peuple s’en alla ainsi pour manger, boire, envoyer des présents et organiser de grandes réjouissances, car il s’était pénétré des paroles qu’on lui avait adressées.
Then all the people went to eate and to drinke, and to send away part, and to make great ioy, because they had vnderstand the wordes that they had taught them.
13 Le deuxième jour, les chefs des familles de tout le peuple, les prêtres, les Lévites se rassemblèrent autour d’Ezra pour se rendre compte des paroles de la Thora.
And on the second day the chiefe fathers of all the people, the Priests and the Leuites were gathered vnto Ezra the scribe, that he also might instruct them in the wordes of the Lawe.
14 Ils trouvèrent écrit dans cette Thora que l’Eternel avait ordonné, par l’organe de Moïse, que les Israélites devaient demeurer dans des cabanes pendant la fête qui arrive au septième mois,
And they found written in the Law, (that the Lord had commanded by Moses) that the children of Israel should dwel in boothes in the feast of the seuenth moneth,
15 et qu’ils devaient publier et faire passer dans toutes leurs villes ainsi qu’à Jérusalem l’avis suivant: "Répandez-vous dans la montagne et rapportez-en des feuilles d’olivier, des feuilles de l’arbre qui donne de l’huile, des feuilles de myrte, des feuilles de palmier, des feuilles d’arbres touffus, pour faire des cabanes comme il est écrit."
And that they shoulde cause it to bee declared and proclaimed in all their cities, and in Ierusalem, saying, Go forth vnto the mount, and bring oliue branches, and pine branches, and branches of myrtus, and palme branches, and branches of thicke trees, to make boothes, as it is written.
16 Le peuple sortit et en apporta. Ils se dressèrent des cabanes, chacun sur son toit, dans leurs cours et dans les parvis du temple de Dieu, sur la place devant la porte de l’eau et sur la place devant la porte d’Ephraïm.
So the people went foorth and brought them, and made them boothes, euerie one vpon the roofe of his house, and in their courtes, and in the courtes of the house of God, and in the streete by the watergate, and in the streete of the gate of Ephraim.
17 Toute la communauté de ceux qui étaient revenus de captivité établirent des cabanes et demeurèrent dans ces cabanes; aussi bien, depuis les jours de Josué, fils de Noun, jusqu’à ce jour, les enfants d’Israël n’avaient pas agi de la sorte. La joie fut donc extrêmement grande.
And all the Congregation of them that were come againe out of the captiuitie made boothes, and sate vnder the boothes: for since the time of Ieshua the sonne of Nun vnto this day, had not the children of Israel done so, and there was very great ioy.
18 Et jour par jour, du premier jour de la fête jusqu’au dernier, on lut dans le livre de la loi de Dieu. Ils célébrèrent ainsi la fête durant sept jours, et le huitième jour, ce fut une solennité de clôture, conformément à la règle.
And he read in the booke of the Lawe of God euery day, from the first day vnto the last day. and they kept the feast seuen dayes, and on the eight day a solemne assemblie, according vnto the maner.
