Nahum 2
1 Le destructeur s’avance contre toi: veille sur la forteresse, observe la route, affermis tes reins, ramasse toutes tes forces!
It is all over with him, he has been removed, [one] who has been delivered from affliction has come up panting into thy presence, watch the way, strengthen [thy] loins, be very valiant in [thy] strength.
2 Car le Seigneur rétablit la grandeur de Jacob comme la grandeur d’Israël, puisque des pillards les avaient dépouillés, et avaient ruiné leurs sarments.
For the Lord has turned aside the pride of Jacob, as the pride of Israel: for they have utterly rejected them, and have destroyed their branches.
3 Les boucliers de ses héros sont teints de rouge, ses hommes de guerre sont vêtus de pourpre. Ses chars jettent des éclats de flamme au jour où il les met en ligne, et les lances sont mises en mouvement.
[They have destroyed] the arms of their power from among men, their mighty men sporting with fire: the reins of their chariots [shall be destroyed] in the day of his preparation, and the horsemen shall be thrown into confusion
4 Les chars tourbillonnent dans les rues, bondissent à travers les places; à les voir, on dirait des torches, ils se précipitent comme des éclairs.
in the ways, and the chariots shall clash together, and shall be entangled in each other in the broad ways: their appearance is as lamps of fire, and as gleaming lightnings.
5 Il s’en rapporte à ses braves: ils trébuchent dans leur marche, se hâtent vers les remparts de la ville, et on prépare l’abri couvert.
And their mighty men shall bethink themselves and flee by day; and they shall be weak as they go; and they shall hasten to her walls, and shall prepare their defences.
6 Les portes protégées par les cours d’eau sont enfoncées et le palais en est atterré.
The gates of the cities have been opened, and the palaces have fallen into ruin,
7 Houzab la reine est tirée de sa cachette et emmenée, tandis que ses servantes poussent des soupirs, telles des colombes qui gémissent, et se frappent la poitrine.
and the foundation has been exposed; and she has gone up, and her maid-servants were led [away] as doves moaning in their hearts.
8 Or, Ninive était de tout temps comme un réservoir plein d’eau; et maintenant ils fuient! "Arrêtez! Tenez bon!" Mais personne ne se retourne.
And [as for] Nineve, her waters [shall be] as a pool of water: and they fled, and staid not, and there was none to look back.
9 Pillez de l’or! Pillez de l’argent! Infinis sont les trésors: c’est toute une richesse de vases précieux!
They plundered the silver, they plundered the gold, and there was no end of their adorning; they were loaded [with it] upon all their pleasant vessels.
10 Tout est pillé, dépouillé, ravagé! Les cœurs se sentent défaillir, les genoux vacillent, tous les reins sont saisis de tremblement, tous les visages se couvrent de pâleur.
[There is] thrusting forth, and shaking, and tumult, and heart-breaking, and loosing of knees, and pangs on all loins; and the faces of all [are] as the blackening of a pot.
11 Qu’est-il advenu de ce repaire de lions, où se gorgeaient les lionceaux, où se rencontraient lion, lionne et lionceau, que personne n’osait troubler?
Where is the dwelling-place of the lions, and the pasture that belonged to the whelps? where did the lion go, that the lion's whelp should enter in there, and there was none to scare [him] away?
12 Le lion déchirait la proie pour ses petits, il l’étranglait pour ses lionnes; il remplissait ses antres de victuailles et ses tanières de bêtes mises en pièces.
The lion seized enough prey for his whelps, and strangled for his [young] lions, and filled his lair with prey, and his dwelling-place with spoil.
13 Voici, je m’apprête contre toi, dit l’Eternel-Cebaot: je brûlerai tes chars dans un nuage de fumée; tes lionceaux, le glaive les dévorera. Je mettrai fin à tes rapines sur la terre, et l’on n’entendra plus la voix de tes hérauts.
Behold, I am against thee, saith the Lord Almighty, and I will burn up thy multitude in the smoke, and the sword shall devour thy lions; and I will utterly destroy thy prey from off the land, and thy deeds shall no more at all be heard of.
