Lévitique 5

1 "Si une personne commet un péché, en ce qu’adjurée par la voix d’un serment, quoique témoin d’un fait qu’elle a vu ou qu’elle connaît, elle ne le déclare point et se trouve ainsi chargée d’une faute;

And if any person sin, because he heareth the voice of adjuration, and he is a witness, since he hath either seen or knoweth something; if he do not tell it, and thus bear his iniquity;

2 ou si quelqu’un touche à quelque objet impur, soit au cadavre d’une bête sauvage immonde, soit à celui d’un animal domestique immonde, ou à celui d’un reptile immonde, et que, sans s’en apercevoir, il se trouve ainsi souillé et coupable;

Or if there be a person who toucheth any unclean thing, whether it be the carcass of an unclean beast, or the carcass of unclean cattle, or the carcass of an unclean creeping thing, and it escape his recollection; but [he becometh aware that] he is unclean, and hath [thus] incurred guilt;

3 ou s’il touche à une impureté humaine (quel que soit le degré de souillure qu’elle occasionne), et que, ne l’ayant pas su, il l’ait ensuite appris et soit devenu coupable;

Or if he touch the uncleanness of man, whatsoever uncleanness of the kind it be by which he can be defiled, and it escape his recollection; but he becometh aware of it, and [that] he hath [thus] incurred guilt;

4 ou si quelqu’un, par un serment échappé à ses lèvres, s’est imposé un acte pénible ou agréable, selon le serment que peut proférer un homme, mais qu’il l’ait oublié, et se soit ensuite reconnu coupable sur l’un de ces points,

Or if any person swear, by pronouncing with his lips to do evil, or to do good [to himself], in whatsoever it be that a man pronounceth with an oath, and it escape his recollection; but he becometh aware of it that he hath incurred guilt by any one of these:

5 dès qu’il sera ainsi en faute à cet égard, il devra confesser son péché.

And it shall be, if he have incurred guilt by any one of these [things, ] that he shall confess that concerning which he hath sinned;

6 Il offrira pour son délit au Seigneur, à cause du péché qu’il a commis, une femelle du menu bétail, brebis ou chèvre, comme expiatoire; et le pontife lui procurera l’expiation de son péché.

And he shall bring his trespass-offering unto the Lord for his sin which he hath committed, a female from the flocks, a sheep or a goat, for a sin-offering; and the priest shall make an atonement for him concerning his sin.

7 Que si ses moyens ne suffisent pas pour l’achat d’une menue bête, il offrira, pour la faute qu’il a commise, deux tourterelles ou deux jeunes colombes au Seigneur: l’une comme expiatoire, l’autre comme holocauste.

And if his means be not sufficient for a sheep, then shall he bring as his offering [for the trespass] which he hath committed, two turtle-doves, or two young pigeons, unto the Lord; one for a sin-offering, and the other for a burnt-offering.

8 II les présentera au pontife, qui offrira en premier lieu l’expiatoire: il lui rompra la tête à l’endroit de la nuque, mais sans la détacher,

And he shall bring them unto the priest, and he shall offer that which is for the sin-offering first, and pinch off its head by the back of its neck, but shall not divide it asunder:

9 puis fera jaillir du sang de l’expiatoire sur la paroi de l’autel; le reste du sang sera exprimé dans le réceptacle de l’autel. Ceci est un expiatoire.

And he shall sprinkle some of the blood of the sin-offering upon the wall of the altar: and the rest of the blood shall be wrung out at the bottom of the altar; it is a sin-offering.

10 Le second oiseau, il en fera un holocauste selon le rite. Ainsi le pontife lui obtiendra propitiation pour le péché qu’il a commis, et il lui sera pardonné.

And the second shall he prepare as a burnt-offering, according to the prescribed order; and the priest shall make an atonement for him for his sin which he hath committed, and it shall be forgiven unto him.

11 Si ses moyens ne vont pas jusqu’à deux tourterelles ou deux jeunes colombes, il apportera comme offrande, pour son péché, un dixième d’êpha de fleur de farine à titre d’expiatoire; il n’y emploiera point d’huile et n’y mettra point d’encens, car c’est un expiatoire.

But if his means be not sufficient for two turtle-doves, or two young pigeons, then shall he bring as his offering for that which he hath sinned, the tenth part of an ephah of fine flour for a sin-offering; he shall not put upon it any oil, nor shall he put thereupon any frankincense; for it is a sin-offering.

12 Il le présentera au pontife; le pontife en prendra une pleine poignée comme mémorial, et la fera fumer sur l’autel parmi les combustions du Seigneur: c’est un expiatoire.

And he shall bring it to the priest; and the priest shall take from it his handful, as its memorial, and burn it on the altar, upon the fire-offerings of the Lord: it is a sin-offering.

13 Le pontife lui obtiendra propitiation du péché qu’il a commis sur l’un de ces chefs, et il lui sera pardonné. Le reste appartiendra au pontife, comme pour l’oblation."

And the priest shall make an atonement for him concerning his sin that he hath committed in one of these, and it shall be forgiven unto him; and it shall belong to the priest, as the meat-offering.

14 L’Éternel parla ainsi à Moïse:

And the Lord spoke unto Moses, saying,

15 "Si quelqu’un commet une faute grave en détournant, par mégarde, un des objets consacrés au Seigneur, il offrira pour ce délit, au Seigneur, un bélier sans défaut, choisi dans le bétail, valant en argent deux sicles, au poids du sanctuaire, comme offrande délictive.

If any person commit a trespass, and sin through ignorance, against the holy things of the Lord: then shall he bring as his trespass-offering unto the Lord a ram without blemish out of the flocks, in value of two shekels of silver, after the shekel of the sanctuary, for a trespass-offering.

16 Quant au tort qu’il a fait au sanctuaire, il le réparera, ajoutera un cinquième en sus et le remettra au pontife; puis le pontife fera propitiation pour lui par le bélier délictif, et il lui sera pardonné.

And that, in which he hath sinned against the holy thing, shall he pay, and shall add its fifth part thereto, and give it unto the priest; and the priest shall make an atonement for him with the ram of the trespass-offering, and it shall be forgiven unto him.

17 Si un individu, commettant un péché, contrevient à une des défenses de l’Éternel, et que, incertain du délit, il soit sous le poids d’une faute,

And if any person sin, and commit any one of the prohibitions of the Lord which ought not to be done; and he know not whether he have incurred guilt, and so bear his iniquity:

18 il apportera au pontife un bélier sans défaut, choisi dans le bétail, selon l’évaluation de l’offrande délictive; le pontife lui obtiendra grâce pour l’erreur qu’il a commise et qu’il ignore, et il lui sera pardonné.

Then shall he bring a ram without blemish out of the flocks, of the usual value, for a trespass-offering, unto the priest: and the priest shall make an atonement for him concerning his sin of ignorance, wherein he hath erred and knoweth it not, and it shall be forgiven unto him.

19 C’Est une offrande délictive, l’homme étant coupable d’un délit envers l’Éternel."

It is a trespass-offering: he hath in trespassing trespassed against the Lord.
