Lévitique 25

1 L’Éternel parla à Moïse au mont Sinaï, en ces termes:

And YHWH speaks to Moses, in Mount Sinai, saying,

2 "Parle aux enfants d’Israël et dis-leur: Quand vous serez entrés dans le pays que je vous donne, la terre sera soumise à un chômage en l’honneur de l’Éternel.

“Speak to the sons of Israel, and you have said to them: When you come into the land which I am giving to you, then the land has kept a Sabbath to YHWH.

3 Six années tu ensemenceras ton champ, six années tu travailleras ta vigne, et tu en recueilleras le produit;

[For] six years you sow your field, and [for] six years you prune your vineyard, and have gathered its increase,

4 mais, la septième année, un chômage absolu sera accordé à la terre, un sabbat en l’honneur de l’Éternel. Tu n’ensemenceras ton champ ni ne tailleras ta vigne.

and in the seventh year is a Sabbath of rest for the land, a Sabbath to YHWH; you do not sow your field, and you do not prune your vineyard;

5 Le produit spontané de ta moisson, tu ne le couperas point, et les raisins de ta vigne intacte, tu ne les vendangeras point: ce sera une année de chômage pour le sol.

you do not reap the spontaneous growth of your harvest, and you do not gather the grapes of your separated thing; it is a year of rest for the land.

6 Ce solen repos vous appartiendra à tous pour la consommation: à toi, à ton esclave, à ta servante, au mercenaire et à l’étranger qui habitent avec toi;

And the Sabbath [increase] of the land has been for you for food, to you, and to your manservant, and to your handmaid, and to your hired worker, and to your settler, who are sojourning with you;

7 ton bétail même, ainsi que les bêtes sauvages de ton pays, pourront se nourrir de tous ces produits.

and for your livestock, and for the beast which [is] in your land, is all its increase for [them] to eat.

8 Tu compteras chez toi sept années sabbatiques, sept fois sept années, de sorte que la période de ces sept années sabbatiques te fera quarante-neuf ans;

And you have numbered seven Sabbaths of years for yourself, seven times seven years, and the days of the seven Sabbaths of years have been forty-nine years for you,

9 puis tu feras circuler le retentissement du cor, dans le septième mois, le dixième jour du mois: au jour des expiations, vous ferez retentir le son du cor à travers tout votre pays.

and you have caused a horn of shouting to pass over in the seventh month, on the tenth of the month; in the Day of Atonements you cause a horn to pass over through all your land;

10 Vous sanctifierez cette cinquantième année, en proclamant, dans le pays, la liberté pour tous ceux qui l’habitent: cette année sera pour vous le Jubilé, où chacun de vous rentrera dans son bien, où chacun retournera à sa famille.

and you have hallowed the year, the fiftieth year; and you have proclaimed liberty in the land to all its inhabitants; it is a Jubilee for you; and you have turned back each to his possession; indeed, you return each to his family.

11 La cinquantième année est le Jubilé, elle le sera pour vous: vous ne sèmerez point, vous n’en couperez point les produits, ni n’en vendangerez les vignes intactes,

It [is] a Jubilee, the fiftieth year, it is a year for you; you do not sow, nor reap its spontaneous growth, nor gather its separated things;

12 parce que cette année est le jubilé et doit vous être une chose sainte. C’Est à même le champ que vous en mangerez le produit.

for it [is] a Jubilee—it is holy to you; you eat its increase from the field;

13 En cette année jubilaire, vous rentrerez chacun dans votre possession.

you return each to his possession in this Year of the Jubilee.

14 Si donc tu fais une vente à ton prochain, ou si tu acquiers de sa main quelque chose, ne vous lésez point l’un l’autre.

And when you sell anything to your fellow, or buy from the hand of your fellow, you do not oppress one another;

15 C’Est en tenant compte des années écoulées depuis le Jubilé, que tu feras cet achat à ton prochain; c’est en tenant compte des années de récolte, qu’il doit te vendre.

you buy from your fellow by the number of years after the Jubilee; he sells to you by the number of the years of increase;

16 Selon que ces années seront plus ou moins nombreuses, tu paieras plus ou moins cher la chose acquise; car c’est un nombre de récoltes qu’il te vend.

you multiply its price according to the multitude of the years, and you diminish its price according to the fewness of the years; for [it is] a number of increases [that] he is selling to you;

17 Ne vous lésez point l’un l’autre, mais redoute ton Dieu! Car je suis l’Éternel votre Dieu.

and you do not oppress one another, and you have been afraid of your God; for I [am] your God YHWH.

18 Exécutez mes édits, observez et pratiquez mes lois, et vous demeurerez dans le pays en sécurité.

And you have done My statutes, and you keep My judgments, and have done them, and you have dwelt on the land confidently,

19 La terre donnera ses fruits, dont vous vous nourrirez abondamment, et vous y résiderez en toute quiétude.

and the land has given its fruit, and you have eaten to satiety, and have dwelt confidently on it.

20 Que si vous dites: "Qu’aurons-nous à manger la septième année, puisque nous ne pouvons ni semer, ni rentrer nos récoltes?"

And when you say, What do we eat in the seventh year, behold, do we not sow, nor gather our increase?

21 Je vous octroierai ma bénédiction dans la sixième année, tellement qu’elle produira la récolte de trois années;

Then I have commanded My blessing on you in the sixth year, and it has made the increase for three years;

22 et quand vous sèmerez la huitième année, vous vivrez sur la récolte antérieure: jusqu’à la neuvième année, jusqu’à ce que s’effectue sa récolte, vous vivrez sur l’ancienne.

and you have sown [in] the eighth year, and have eaten of the old increase; you eat the old until the ninth year, until the coming in of its increase.

23 Nulle terre ne sera aliénée irrévocablement, car la terre est à moi, car vous n’êtes que des étrangers domiciliés chez moi.

And the land is not sold—to extinction, for the land [is] Mine, for you [are] sojourners and settlers with Me;

24 Et dans tout le pays que vous posséderez, vous accorderez le droit de rachat sur les terres.

and in all the land of your possession you give a redemption for the land.

25 Si ton frère, se trouvant dans la gêne, a vendu une partie de sa propriété, son plus proche parent aura la faculté de racheter ce qu’a vendu son frère.

When your brother becomes poor, and has sold his possession, then his redeemer who is near to him has come, and he has redeemed the sold thing of his brother;

26 Quelqu’un dont personne n’a racheté le bien, mais qui retrouve des ressources suffisantes pour le racheter lui-même,

and when a man has no redeemer, and his own hand has attained [means], and he has found [it] as sufficient [for] its redemption,

27 supputera les années de la vente, rendra l’excédent à celui à qui il avait vendu, et rentrera dans son bien.

then he has reckoned the years of its sale, and has given back that which is over to the man to whom he sold [it], and he has returned to his possession.

28 Que s’il n’a point de ressources suffisantes pour cette restitution, la chose vendue restera entre les mains de l’acquéreur jusqu’à l’année jubilaire; elle en sortira à cette époque, et l’autre en reprendra possession.

And if his hand has not found sufficiency to give back to him, then his sold thing has been in the hand of him who buys it until the Year of Jubilee; and it has gone out in the Jubilee, and he has returned to his possession.

29 Si quelqu’un vend une maison d’habitation située dans une ville murée, le droit de rachat durera jusqu’à la fin de l’année de la vente: pendant une année pleine cette faculté subsistera.

And when a man sells a dwelling-house [in] a walled city, then his right of redemption has been until the completion of a year from its selling; his right of redemption is [during these] days;

30 Et si elle n’a pas été rachetée dans l’espace d’une année entière, cette maison sise dans une ville close de murs sera acquise définitivement à l’acheteur, pour lui et sa descendance; le Jubilé ne la dégagera point.

and if it is not redeemed to him until the fullness of a perfect year, then the house which [is] in a walled city has been established to extinction to him buying it, throughout his generations; it does not go out in the Jubilee.

31 Mais les maisons des villages non entourés de murs seront réputées une dépendance de la campagne, laquelle sera rachetable, et dégagée au Jubilé.

And a house of the villages which have no surrounding wall is reckoned on the field of the country; there is redemption for it, and it goes out in the Jubilee.

32 Quant aux villes des Lévites, aux maisons situées dans les villes qu’ils possèdent, les Lévites auront toujours le droit de les racheter.

As for cities of the Levites—houses of the cities of their possession—continuous redemption is for the Levites;

33 Si même quelqu’un des Lévites l’a rachetée, la vente de cette maison ou de cette ville qu’il possède sera résiliée par le Jubilé; car les maisons situées dans les villes des Lévites sont leur propriété parmi les enfants d’Israël.

as for him who redeems from the Levites, then the sale of a house (and [in] the city of his possession) has gone out in the Jubilee, for the houses of the cities of the Levites are their possession in the midst of the sons of Israel.

34 Une terre située dans la banlieue de leurs villes ne peut être vendue: elle est leur propriété inaliénable.

And a field, a outskirt of their cities, is not sold; for it [is] a continuous possession for them.

35 Si ton frère vient à déchoir, si tu vois chanceler sa fortune, soutiens-le, fût-il étranger et nouveau venu, et qu’Il vive avec toi.

And when your brother has become poor, and his hand has failed with you, then you have kept hold on him, sojourner and settler, and he has lived with you;

36 N’Accepte de sa part ni intérêt ni profit, mais crains ton Dieu, et que ton frère vive avec toi.

you take no usury or increase from him; and you have been afraid of your God; and your brother has lived with you;

37 Ne lui donne point ton argent à intérêt, ni tes aliments pour en tirer profit.

you do not give your money to him in usury, and you do not give your food for increase.

38 Je suis l’Éternel votre Dieu, qui vous ai fait sortir du pays d’Egypte pour vous donner celui de Canaan, pour devenir votre Dieu.

I [am] your God YHWH, who has brought you out of the land of Egypt to give the land of Canaan to you, to become your God.

39 Si ton frère, près de toi, réduit à la misère, se vend à toi, ne lui impose point le travail d’un esclave.

And when your brother becomes poor with you, and he has been sold to you, you do not lay servile service on him;

40 C’Est comme un mercenaire, comme un hôte, qu’il sera avec toi; il servira chez toi jusqu’à l’année du Jubilé.

he is as a hired worker [and] as a settler with you; he serves with you until the Year of the Jubilee—

41 Alors il sortira de chez toi, lui ainsi que ses enfants; il retournera dans sa famille, et recouvrera le bien de ses pères.

then he has gone out from you, he and his sons with him, and has turned back to his family; and he turns back to the possession of his fathers.

42 Car ils sont mes esclaves, à moi, qui les ai fait sortir du pays d’Egypte; ils ne doivent pas être vendus à la façon des esclaves.

For they [are] My servants, whom I have brought out from the land of Egypt: they are not sold [with] the sale of a servant;

43 Ne le régente point avec rigueur, crains d’offenser ton Dieu!

you do not rule over him with rigor, and you have been afraid of your God.

44 Ton esclave ou ta servante, que tu veux avoir en propre, doit provenir des peuples qui vous entourent; à ceux-là vous pouvez acheter esclaves et servantes.

And your manservant and your handmaid whom you have [are] from the nations who [are] around you; you buy manservant and handmaid from them,

45 Vous pourrez en acheter encore parmi les enfants des étrangers qui viennent s’établir chez vous, et parmi leurs familles qui sont avec vous, qu’ils ont engendrées dans votre pays: ils pourront devenir votre propriété.

and also from the sons of the settlers who are sojourning with you, you buy from them, and from their families who [are] with you, which they have begotten in your land, and they have been to you for a possession;

46 Vous pourrez les léguer à vos enfants pour qu’ils en prennent possession après vous, et les traiter perpétuellement en esclaves; mais sur vos frères les enfants d’Israël un frère sur un autre! Tu n’exerceras point sur eux une domination rigoureuse.

and you have taken them for an inheritance for your sons after you, to inherit [for] a possession; you lay service on them for all time, but on your brothers, the sons of Israel, each with his brother—you do not rule over him with rigor.

47 Si l’étranger, celui qui s’est établi près de toi, acquiert des moyens, et que ton frère, près de lui, devenu pauvre, se soit vendu à l’étranger établi près de toi, ou au rejeton d’une famille étrangère,

And when the hand of a sojourner or settler with you attains [riches], and your brother with him has become poor, and he has been sold to a sojourner, a settler with you, or to the root of the family of a sojourner,

48 après qu’il s’est vendu, le droit de rachat existe pour lui; l’un de ses frères donc le rachètera.

after he has been sold, there is a right of redemption for him; one of his brothers redeems him,

49 Il sera racheté ou par son oncle ou par le fils de son oncle, ou par quelque autre de sa parenté, de sa famille; ou, s’il a acquis des moyens, il se rachètera lui-même.

or his uncle or a son of his uncle redeems him, or any of the relations of his flesh, of his family, redeems him, or [if] his own hand has attained [means] then he has been redeemed.

50 Il calculera, avec son acquéreur, l’intervalle entre l’année où il s’est vendu à lui et l’année du Jubilé; le prix de sa vente sera comparé au chiffre des années, qui seront considérées à son égard comme le temps d’un mercenaire.

And he has reckoned with his buyer from the year of his being sold to him until the Year of Jubilee, and the money of his sale has been by the number of years; it is with him as the days of a hired worker.

51 S’Il y a encore un grand nombre d’années, il rendra pour son rachat, sur le prix de son acquisition, une somme équivalente;

If many years still [remain], he gives back his redemption [money] according to them, from the money of his purchase.

52 et de même, s’il reste un petit nombre d’années jusqu’à l’an jubilaire, il lui en tiendra compte: c’est à proportion des années qu’il paiera son rachat.

And if few are left of the years until the Year of Jubilee, then he has reckoned with him [and] he gives back his redemption [money] according to his years;

53 Qu’il soit chez lui comme le mercenaire loué à l’année: qu’on ne le régente point avec dureté, toi présent.

as a hired worker, year by year, he is with him, and he does not rule him with rigor before your eyes.

54 Et s’il n’a pas été racheté par ces voies, il sortira libre à l’époque du jubilé, lui, et ses enfants avec lui.

And if he is not redeemed in these [years], then he has gone out in the Year of Jubilee, he and his sons with him.

55 Car c’est à moi que les Israélites appartiennent comme esclaves; ce sont mes serfs à moi, qui les ai tirés du pays d’Egypte, moi, l’Éternel, votre Dieu!"

For the sons of Israel [are] servants to Me; they [are] My servants whom I have brought out of the land of Egypt; I [am] your God YHWH.”
