Lévitique 17

1 L’Éternel parla à Moïse en ces termes:

And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:

2 "Parle à Aaron et à ses fils, ainsi qu’à tous les enfants d’Israël, et dis-leur: voici ce que l’Éternel m’a ordonné de dire:

Speak to Aaron and his sons, and to all the sons of Israel, saying to them: This is the word, which the Lord has commanded, saying:

3 Tout homme de la maison d’Israël qui égorgera une pièce de gros bétail, ou une bête à laine ou une chèvre, dans le camp, ou qui l’égorgera hors du camp,

Any man at all of the house of Israel, if he will have killed an ox, or a sheep, or a goat in the camp or beyond the camp,

4 sans l’avoir amenée à l’entrée de la Tente d’assignation pour en faire une offrande à l’Éternel, devant son tabernacle, il sera réputé meurtrier, cet homme, il a répandu le sang; et cet homme-là sera retranché du milieu de son peuple.

and not have presented it as an oblation to the Lord at the door of the tabernacle, he shall be guilty of blood. It is just as if he had shed blood; so then, he shall perish from the midst of his people.

5 Afin que les enfants d’Israël amènent leurs victimes, qu’ils sacrifient en plein champ, qu’ils les amènent désormais à l’Éternel, à l’entrée de la Tente d’assignation, au pontife, et qu’ils les égorgent comme victimes rémunératoires en l’honneur de l’Éternel.

Therefore, the sons of Israel must offer to the priest their victims, which they kill in the field, so that they may be sanctified to the Lord before the door of the tabernacle of the testimony, and so that they may immolate them as peace offerings to the Lord.

6 Et le pontife lancera le sang sur l’autel de l’Éternel, à l’entrée de la Tente d’assignation, et il fera fumer la graisse comme parfum agréable à l’Éternel;

And the priest shall pour the blood upon the altar of the Lord, at the door of the tabernacle of the testimony, and he shall burn the fat as a sweet odor to the Lord.

7 et ils n’offriront plus leurs sacrifices aux démons, au culte desquels ils se prostituent. Que cela soit une loi immuable pour eux, dans leurs générations.

And they shall no longer immolate their victims to demons, with whom they have committed fornication. It shall be an everlasting ordinance for them and for their posterity.

8 Tu leur diras encore: Quiconque, de la maison d’Israël ou des étrangers qui séjourneraient parmi eux, offrira un holocauste ou un autre sacrifice,

And you shall say to them: The man of the house of Israel, or of the newcomers who sojourn with you, who offers a holocaust or a victim,

9 et ne conduira pas la victime à l’entrée de la Tente d’assignation pour qu’on la destine à l’Éternel, cet homme-là sera retranché de son peuple.

and who does not bring it to the door of the tabernacle of the testimony, so that it may be offered to the Lord, shall pass away from his people.

10 Quiconque aussi, dans la maison d’Israël ou parmi les étrangers établis au milieu d’eux, mangera de quelque sang, je dirigerai mon regard sur la personne qui aura mangé ce sang, et je la retrancherai du milieu de son peuple.

Any man at all of the house of Israel, or of the newcomers who sojourn among them, if he has eaten blood, I will harden my face against his soul, and I will drive him from his people.

11 Car le principe vital de la chair gît dans le sang, et moi je vous l’ai accordé sur l’autel, pour procurer l’expiation à vos personnes; car c’est le sang qui fait expiation pour la personne.

For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you, so that you may atone with it upon the altar for your souls, and so that the blood may be for an expiation of the soul.

12 C’Est pourquoi j’ai dit aux enfants d’Israël: Que nul d’entre vous ne mange du sang, et que l’étranger résidant avec vous n’en mange point.

For this reason, I have said to the sons of Israel: No soul among you shall eat blood, nor among the newcomers who sojourn with you.

13 Tout homme aussi, parmi les enfants d’Israël ou parmi les étrangers résidant avec eux, qui aurait pris un gibier, bête sauvage ou volatile, propre à être mangé, devra en répandre le sang et le couvrir de terre.

Any man at all from the sons of Israel, or from the newcomers who sojourn with you, whether by hunting or bird-catching, if he seizes a wild beast or a bird, which is lawful to eat, let him pour out its blood and cover the earth with it.

14 Car le principe vital de toute créature, c’est son sang qui est dans son corps, aussi ai-je dit aux enfants d’Israël: Ne mangez le sang d’aucune créature. Car la vie de toute créature c’est son sang: quiconque en mangera sera retranché.

For the life of all flesh is in the blood. Therefore, I said to the sons of Israel: You shall not eat the blood of any flesh at all, because the life of the flesh is in the blood, and whoever has eaten it shall perish.

15 Toute personne, indigène ou étrangère, qui mangerait d’une bête morte ou déchirée, devra laver ses vêtements, se baigner dans l’eau et rester souillée jusqu’au soir, où elle redeviendra pure.

The soul who eats what has died on its own, or what has been caught by a beast, whether he is native born or a newcomer, shall wash his clothes and himself with water, and he shall be contaminated until evening. And by this means he shall be made clean.

16 Que si elle ne lave point ses vêtements et ne baigne point son corps, elle en portera la peine."

But if he will not wash his clothes and his body, he shall bear his iniquity.
