Juges 5
1 Ce même jour, Débora et Barak, fils d’Abinoam, chantèrent ce cantique:
Then sang Deborah, and Barak the sonne of Abinoam the same day, saying,
2 Quand l’anarchie régnait en Israël, une poignée d’hommes s’est dévouée: rendez-en grâce à l’Eternel!
Praise ye the Lord for the auenging of Israel, and for the people that offred themselues willingly.
3 Ecoutez, rois; princes, prêtez l’oreille: je veux, je veux chanter le Seigneur, célébrer l’Eternel, Dieu d’Israël.
Heare, ye Kings, hearken ye princes: I, euen I will sing vnto the Lord: I will sing praise vnto the Lord God of Israel.
4 Eternel! Quand tu sortis de Séir, quand tu t’avanças de la région d’Edom, la terre frissonna, les cieux se fondirent, les nuages se fondirent en eau;
Lord, when thou wentest out of Seir, when thou departedst out of the field of Edom, the earth trembled, and the heauens rained, the cloudes also dropped water.
5 Les monts ruisselèrent à la vue du Seigneur, le Sinaï tressaillit à l’aspect du Dieu d’Israël.
The mountaines melted before the Lord, as did that Sinai before the Lord God of Israel.
6 Au temps de Samgar, fils d’Anat, aux jours de Jaël, les routes étaient devenues solitaires, les voyageurs suivaient des sentiers détournés.
In the dayes of Shamgar the sonne of Anath, in the dayes of Iael the hie wayes were vnoccupied, and the trauelers walked through by wayes.
7 Plus de ville ouverte en Israël, plus aucune, quand enfin je me suis levée, moi Débora, levée comme une mère au milieu d’Israël.
The townes were not inhabited: they decayed, I say, in Israel, vntill I Deborah came vp, which rose vp a mother in Israel.
8 Il avait adopté des dieux nouveaux, dès lors la guerre est à ses portes; et l’on voyait à peine un bouclier, une lance, entre quarante milliers d’Israël.
They chose new gods: then was warre in the gates. Was there a shielde or speare seene among fourtie thousand of Israel?
9 Mon cœur est à vous, maîtres d’Israël, qui vous êtes dévoués au milieu du peuple, rendez grâce à l’Eternel!
Mine heart is set on the gouernours of Israel, and on them that are willing among the people: praise ye the Lord.
10 Vous qui montez de blanches ânesses, qui vous asseyez sur des tapis, et vous, humbles piétons du chemin, contez cette merveille!
Speake ye that ride on white asses, yee that dwel by Middin, and that walke by the way.
11 Ceux que le tumulte faisait blottir parmi les auges, maintenant célèbrent les bienfaits du Seigneur, ses bienfaits qui émancipent Israël; maintenant rentre dans ses portes le peuple du Seigneur.
For the noyse of the archers appaised among the drawers of water: there shall they rehearse the righteousnesse of the Lord, his righteousnesse of his townes in Israel: then did the people of the Lord goe downe to the gates.
12 Debout, debout, Débora! Eveille-toi, éveille-toi, chante l’hymne! Alerte, ô Barak! Fils d’Abinoam, emmène ta capture!
Vp Deborah, vp, arise, and sing a song: arise Barak, and leade thy captiuitie captiue, thou sonne of Abinoam.
13 Un faible reste triomphe d’une puissante multitude; l’Eternel m’a fait dompter les forts.
For they that remaine, haue dominio ouer the mightie of the people: the Lord hath giuen me dominion ouer the strong.
14 Les gens d’Ephraïm ont pris racine en Amalec, à ta suite, ô Benjamin! et près de tes familles; Makhir a produit des législateurs, et plusieurs, dans Zabulon, manient la plume du scribe.
Of Ephraim their roote arose against Amalek: and after thee, Beniamin shall fight against thy people, O Amalek: of Machir came rulers, and of Zebulun they that handle the pen of the writer.
15 Et ces princes d’Issachar, amis de Débora, et Issachar, l’appui de Barak, dans la vallée ils s’étalent à ses pieds. Parmi les groupes de Ruben, grands sont les soucis de la pensée!
And the Princes of Issachar were with Deborah, and Issachar, and also Barak: he was set on his feete in the valley: for the diuisions of Reuben were great thoughts of heart.
16 Pourquoi es-tu resté entre les collines, écoutant le murmure des troupeaux? C’Est que, pour les groupes de Ruben, grave est la perplexité d’esprit.
Why abodest thou among the sheepefolds, to heare the bleatings of the flockes? for the diuisions of Reuben were great thoughts of heart.
17 Galaad, sur la rive du Jourdain demeure immobile; Dan, qui le retient près des vaisseaux? Aser s’est fixé sur le littoral, il se cantonne près de ses ports…
Gilead abode beyonde Iorden: and why doeth Dan remayne in shippes? Asher sate on the sea shoare, and taryed in his decayed places.
18 Zabulon, voilà le peuple qui se dévoue à la mort! Lui et Nepthali, seuls au champ de bataille!
But the people of Zebulun and Naphtali haue ieopard their liues vnto the death in the hie places of the field.
19 Les rois sont venus, ils ont guerroyé, oui, ils ont guerroyé, les. rois de Canaan, à Taanakh, près des eaux de Meghiddo: les riches dépouilles n’ont pas été pour eux.
The Kings came and fought: then fought the Kings of Canaan in Taanach by the waters of Megiddo: they receiued no gaine of money.
20 Les cieux ont pris part au combat; les astres, dans leurs orbites, ont fait la guerre à Sisara.
They fought from heauen, euen the starres in their courses fought against Sisera.
21 Le torrent de Kison les a balayés, l’antique torrent, le torrent de Kison… Mon âme, élance-toi, impétueuse!
The Riuer Kishon swepe them away, that ancient riuer the riuer Kishon. O my soule, thou hast marched valiantly.
22 Comme ils résonnaient, les sabots des coursiers, sous la fuite, la fuite rapide de ses vaillants!
Then were the horsehooues broken with the oft beating together of their mightie men.
23 Maudissez Méroz, a dit le messager du Seigneur, vouez à l’exécration ses habitants! Car ils ne sont point venus seconder le Seigneur parmi les braves.
Curse ye Meroz: (sayd the Angel of the Lord) curse the inhabitantes thereof, because they came not to helpe the Lord, to helpe the Lord against the mighty.
24 Bénie soit, entre les femmes, Jaël, l’épouse du Kénéen Héber; entre les femmes, sous la tente, soit-elle bénie!
Iael the wife of Heber the Kenite shall be blessed aboue other women: blessed shall she be aboue women dwelling in tentes.
25 Il demandait de l’eau, elle lui offre du lait; dans un vase précieux elle apporte de la crème.
He asked water, and shee gaue him milke: she brought forth butter in a lordly dish.
26 De sa main elle saisit une cheville, de sa droite le marteau du manœuvre; puis elle frappe Sisara, lui fracasse la tête, lui fend, lui transperce la tempe.
She put her hand to the naile, and her right hand to the workemans hammer: with the hammer smote she Sisera: she smote off his head, after she had wounded, and pearsed his temples.
27 A ses pieds il se tord, il s’affaisse, il succombe; à ses pieds il se tord, il rampe, se débat encore et gît sur place, inanimé…
He bowed him downe at her feete, he fell downe, and lay still: at her feete hee bowed him downe, and fell: and when he had sunke downe, he lay there dead.
28 Elle a regardé par la fenêtre, la mère de Sisara; à travers le grillage elle a jeté sa plainte: "Pourquoi son char tarde-t-il à paraître? Qui retient donc la course de ses chariots?"
The mother of Sisera looked out at a windowe, and cryed thorowe the lattesse, Why is his charet so long a comming? why tary the wheeles of his charets?
29 Ses sages compagnes la rassurent; elle-même trouve réponse à ses plaintes:
Her wise ladies answered her, Yea. Shee answered her selfe with her owne wordes,
30 "Sans doute ils enlèvent, ils partagent le butin; une jeune fille, deux jeunes filles par guerrier; pour Sisara, les étoffes richement teintes, la dépouille des broderies éclatantes, des broderies doubles qui brillent au cou des captives…"
Haue they not gotten, and they deuide the spoyle? euery man hath a mayde or two. Sisera hath a praye of diuers coloured garmentes, a pray of sundry colours made of needle worke: of diuers colours of needle worke on both sides, for the chiefe of the spoyle.
31 Ainsi périront tous tes ennemis, Seigneur, et tes amis rayonneront comme le soleil dans sa gloire. Le pays eut, depuis lors, quarante années de repos.
So let all thine enemies perish, O Lord: but they that loue him, shall be as the Sunne when he riseth in his might, and the lande had rest fourtie yeres.
