Joël 2
1 Sonnez du cor dans Sion, et poussez des cris sur ma montagne sainte, pour qu’ils tremblent, tous les habitants de ce pays; car il arrive, le jour de l’Eternel, il est proche:
Blow ye the trumpet in Zion; Sound an alarm in my holy mountain! Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble! For the day of Jehovah cometh, for it is near!
2 un jour de ténèbres et d’obscurité, un jour de nuages et de brume épaisse, pareil au crépuscule qui s’étend sur les montagnes! C’Est un peuple nombreux et puissant, tel qu’il n’y en eut jamais et qu’il n’y en aura plus jusqu’aux âges les plus reculés.
A day of darkness, and gloominess, A day of clouds, and thick darkness. As the morning light spreadeth itself upon the mountains, There cometh a numerous people and a strong; Like them there have been none of old time, And after them there shall not be, Even to the years of many generations.
3 Devant lui il y a un feu qui dévore, derrière lui une flamme brûlante, devant lui la terre était pareille au jardin d’Eden, quand il a passé, c’est un désert désolé: rien ne lui a échappé.
A fire devoureth before them, And behind them a flame burneth; The land is as the garden of Eden before them. And behind them a desolate wilderness! Yea, nothing escapeth them.
4 A le voir, on dirait des chevaux; ils courent comme des cavaliers.
Their appearance is like the appearance of horses, And like horsemen do they run;
5 Avec le fracas des chars roulant sur le sommet des montagnes, ils bondissent. On dirait le pétillement d’une flamme qui dévore le chaume, un peuple immense rangé en bataille.
Like rattling chariots they leap on the tops of the mountains; Like the crackling flame of fire, which devoureth stubble; Like a mighty host set in battle array.
6 A leur approche les peuples frémissent, tous les visages se couvrent de pâleur.
Before them the people tremble, And all faces gather blackness.
7 Ils se précipitent comme des héros, escaladent les murailles comme des gens de guerre; ils avancent chacun droit devant lui, sans dévier de la route.
They run like mighty men; They climb the wall like warriors; They march every one on his way; They change not their paths.
8 L’Un ne se heurte pas contre l’autre, chacun suivant son chemin; ils se jettent sur les armes, sans rompre leurs rangs.
One doth not thrust another; They march every one in his path, And though they rush among weapons, they are not wounded.
9 Ils se répandent à travers la ville, franchissent les murailles, montent dans les maisons, entrent par les fenêtres comme des larrons.
They run through the city; They run upon the wall; They go up into the houses; They enter in at the windows, like a thief.
10 Devant eux la terre tremble, les cieux frissonnent, le soleil et la lune s’obscurcissent et les étoiles voilent leur éclat.
The earth quaketh before them, And the heavens tremble; The sun and the moon are darkened, And the stars withdraw their shining.
11 L’Eternel fait retentir sa voix à la tête de son armée, car innombrable est sa horde, car forts sont ceux qui exécutent ses ordres. Oui, grand est le jour de l’Eternel, et extrêmement redoutable: qui pourra le supporter?
Jehovah uttereth his voice before his army; For very great is his host; Yea, it is mighty, executing his word; The day of Jehovah is great, and very terrible; Who shall be able to bear it?
12 Et maintenantil en est temps encorerevenez à moi de tout votre cœur, avec des jeûnes, des pleurs et des plaintes funèbres.
Yet even now, saith Jehovah, Turn ye to me with all your heart, With fasting, with weeping, and with mourning!
13 Déchirez vos cœurs et non pas vos vêtements, et retournez à l’Eternel, votre Dieu, car il est clément, miséricordieux, lent à la colère et abondant en grâce, enclin à revenir sur le mal.
And rend your hearts, and not your garments, And turn to Jehovah your God, For he is gracious and merciful, Slow to anger, and of great kindness, And repenteth of a threatened evil.
14 Qui sait? Peut-être, se ravisant, regrettera-t-il le mal qu’il vous a fait et laissera-t-il quelque bénédiction à sa suite: des offrandes et des libations pour l’Eternel, votre Dieu.
Who knoweth but he will turn and repent, And leave a blessing behind him, Even a flour-offering and a drink-offering for Jehovah your God.
15 Sonnez du cor dans Sion, ordonnez un jeûne, convoquez une réunion sainte!
Blow ye the trumpet in Zion; Appoint yea fast; proclaim a solemn assembly!
16 Rassemblez le peuple, organisez un rendez-vous solennel, appelez les vieillards, rassemblez même les enfants et les nourrissons à la mamelle! Que le jeune marié sorte de sa chambre et la jeune épouse de son dais nuptial!
Gather the people; appoint a congregation; Assemble the elders; Gather the children and the sucklings! Let the bridegroom come forth from his chamber, And the bride from her nuptial bed!
17 Entre le portique et l’autel, que les prêtres, ministres de l’Eternel, pleurent et disent: "O Seigneur, épargne ton peuple, et ne livre pas ton héritage à l’opprobre, aux sarcasmes des nations! Faut-il qu’on dise parmi les peuples: Où est leur Dieu?"
Let the priests, the servants of Jehovah, Weep between the porch and the altar, And say, Spare thy people, O Jehovah, And give not thine inheritance to reproach, And to be a by-word to the nations! Why should they say among the nations, Where is their God?
18 Et l’Eternel a été ému de jalousie pour son pays et de commisération pour son peuple.
Then will Jehovah be zealous for his land, And have compassion on his people,
19 Et l’Eternel a répondu en disant à son peuple: "Voici, je vais vous envoyer le blé, le vin et l’huile, et vous en aurez à satiété; je ne vous livrerai plus en opprobre aux nations.
Yea, Jehovah will answer, and say to his people, Behold, I will send you corn, And new wine, and oil, and ye shall be satisfied therewith; And I will no more make you a reproach among the nations.
20 Et ce fléau venu du Nord, je l’éloignerai de vous, je le refoulerai dans une contrée aride et déserte, son avant-garde vers la mer Orientale, son arrière-garde vers la mer Ultérieure. Là, il exhalera son infection, là, il exhalera son odeur fétide, après avoir accompli de grandes choses.
I will remove far from you the northern host, And I will drive it into a dry and desolate land; Its van toward the Eastern sea, And its rear toward the Western sea. And its scent shall come up, And its ill savor shall come up, Because it hath done great things.
21 O ma terre, ne crains plus! Tressaille de joie et sois dans l’allégresse, car l’Eternel a fait de grandes choses.
Fear not, O land, exult and rejoice, For Jehovah hath done great things!
22 Ne craignez plus, bêtes des champs, car déjà reverdissent les pacages du désert, déjà les arbres portent leurs fruits, le figuier et la vigne donnent leurs richesses.
Fear not, O ye beasts of the field, For the pastures of the desert spring up, For the tree beareth its fruit; The fig-tree and the vine yield their strength!
23 Et vous, fils de Sion, réjouissez-vous, délectez-vous en l’Eternel, votre Dieu, car il vous donne la pluie d’automne d’une manière bienfaisante, il fait tomber pour vous en premier les pluies d’automne et du printemps.
And, O ye sons of Zion, exult, And rejoice in Jehovah your God! For he giveth you the former rain in just measure, And causeth showers to come down upon you, Even the former rain, and the latter rain, as aforetime.
24 Et les granges regorgeront de blé, les cuves déborderont de vin et d’huile.
And the threshing-floors shall be full of wheat, And the vats shall overflow with new wine and oil.
25 Je vous ferai récupérer ainsi les années qu’ont dévorées la sauterelle, la locuste, le hanneton et la chenille, ma grande armée que j’avais lâchée contre vous.
And I will restore to you the years Which the swarming-locust hath eaten, The licking-locust, the consuming-locust, and the gnawing-locusts, My great army, which I sent among you.
26 Vous mangerez une nourriture abondante et serez rassasiés, vous glorifierez le nom de l’Eternel, votre Dieu, qui aura fait pour vous tant de prodiges et plus jamais mon peuple n’aura à rougir.
Ye shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied, And praise the name of Jehovah your God, Who hath dealt wondrously with you; And my people shall never be put to shame.
27 Et vous reconnaîtrez que je suis au milieu d’Israël, que moi, je suis l’Eternel, votre Dieu, et nul autre. Et jamais mon peuple n’aura plus à rougir.
Ye shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, And that I am Jehovah, your God, and none else; And my people shall never be put to shame.
28 Après cela, je répandrai mon esprit sur toute chair, si bien que vos fils et vos filles prophétiseront, que vos vieillards songeront des songes et que vos jeunes gens verront des visions.
And it shall come to pass afterward, That I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy; Your old men shall dream dreams, Your young men shall see visions.
29 Même sur les esclaves et les servantes je répandrai, en ces jours, mon esprit.
Upon the men-servants also, and upon the handmaids, Will I pour out my spirit in those days.
30 Et je ferai apparaître des prodiges au ciel et sur la terre: du sang, du feu et des colonnes de fumée.
And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth; Blood and fire, and pillars of smoke.
31 Le soleil se changera en ténèbres et la lune en sang, à l’approche du jour de l’Eternel, si grand et si redoutable.
The sun shall be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before the day of Jehovah cometh, The great and the terrible day. Then whoever calleth on the name of Jehovah shall be delivered;
32 Alors quiconque invoquera le nom de l’Eternel sera sauvé; car sur le mont Sion et dans Jérusalem le salut sera assuré, ainsi que l’a dit l’Eternel, comme il le sera, parmi les survivants, à ceux qu’élira le Seigneur.
For upon mount Zion, and in Jerusalem, shall be deliverance, As Jehovah hath spoken; And among the remnant, whom Jehovah shall call.
