Job 5
1 Appelle donc! Est-il quelqu’un qui te répondra? Vers lequel des Saints te tourneras-tu?
Give now a cry for help; is there anyone who will give you an answer? and to which of the holy ones will you make your prayer?
2 Certes, c’est sa mauvaise humeur qui tue l’insensé, c’est son dépit qui fait mourir le sot.
For wrath is the cause of death to the foolish, and he who has no wisdom comes to his end through passion.
3 J’Ai vu, moi, l’insensé prendre racine, mais aussitôt j’ai maudit sa demeure:
I have seen the foolish taking root, but suddenly the curse came on his house.
4 "Que ses fils soient éloignés de tout secours, qu’ils soient écrasés à la Porte, sans personne pour les sauver!
Now his children have no safe place, and they are crushed before the judges, for no one takes up their cause.
5 Que l’affamé dévore sa récolte en l’enlevant jusque derrière les haies d’épines, que le besogneux happe ses richesses!"
Their produce is taken by him who has no food, and their grain goes to the poor, and he who is in need of water gets it from their spring.
6 Car ce n’est pas du sol que sort le malheur, ce n’est pas de la terre que germe la douleur.
For evil does not come out of the dust, or trouble out of the earth;
7 Mais l’homme est né pour la douleur, tout comme les étincelles enflammées s’élèvent haut dans l’air.
But trouble is man's fate from birth, as the flames go up from the fire.
8 Toutefois, moi, je m’adresserais au Tout-Puissant, j’exposerais ma cause à Dieu.
But as for me, I would make my prayer to God, and I would put my cause before him:
9 Il accomplit de grandes choses en nombre infini, des merveilles qui ne peuvent se compter.
Who does great things outside our knowledge, wonders without number:
10 II répand la pluie à la surface de la terre et lance des cours d’eaux dans les plaines.
Who gives rain on the earth, and sends water on the fields:
11 Il met sur les hauteurs ceux qui étaient abaissés, et ceux qui étaient dans une noire tristesse se relèvent par son secours.
Lifting up those who are low, and putting the sad in a safe place;
12 Il fait échouer les projets des gens de ruse: leurs mains n’exécutent rien qui vaille.
Who makes the designs of the wise go wrong, so that they are unable to give effect to their purposes.
13 Il prend les malins dans leurs propres artifices et ruine les plans des fourbes.
He takes the wise in their secret designs, and the purposes of the twisted are cut off suddenly.
14 Le jour, ils se heurtent aux ténèbres; en plein midi, ils tâtonnent comme dans la nuit.
In the daytime it becomes dark for them, and in the sunlight they go feeling about as if it was night.
15 II protège contre leur bouche qui est un glaive, sauve le faible des mains du fort.
But he keeps safe from their sword those who have no father, and the poor from the power of the strong.
16 L’Espoir renaît pour le pauvre, et l’iniquité a la bouche close.
So the poor man has hope, and the mouth of the evil-doer is stopped.
17 Ah! Certes, heureux l’homme que Dieu réprimande! Ne repousse donc pas les leçons du Tout-Puissant.
Truly, that man is happy who has training from the hand of God: so do not let your heart be shut to the teaching of the Ruler of all.
18 Car il blesse et panse la blessure, il frappe et ses mains guérissent.
For after his punishment he gives comfort, and after wounding, his hands make you well.
19 Qu’il survienne six calamités, il t’en préservera, et lors de la septième, le mal ne te touchera pas.
He will keep you safe from six troubles, and in seven no evil will come near you.
20 En temps de famine, il te sauvera de la mort; dans le combat des atteintes du glaive.
When there is need of food he will keep you from death, and in war from the power of the sword.
21 Tu seras à l’abri du fouet de la langue, et si une catastrophe éclate, tu n’auras rien à craindre.
He will keep you safe from the evil tongue; and you will have no fear of wasting when it comes.
22 Tu te riras de la dévastation et de la disette; les animaux de la terre, tu ne les redouteras point.
You will make sport of destruction and need, and will have no fear of the beasts of the earth.
23 Car même avec les pierres du sol tu auras un pacte, et les animaux sauvages concluront un traité de paix avec toi.
For you will be in agreement with the stones of the earth, and the beasts of the field will be at peace with you.
24 Tu verras le bonheur fixé dans ta demeure, tu inspecteras ta maison et ne trouveras rien en défaut.
And you will be certain that your tent is at peace, and after looking over your property you will see that nothing is gone.
25 Tu verras s’accroître le nombre de tes enfants, et tes rejetons se multiplier comme l’herbe de la terre.
You will be certain that your seed will be great, and your offspring like the plants of the earth.
26 Tu entreras dans la tombe au terme extrême de la vieillesse, comme s’élève une meule de blé dans la saison voulue.
You will come to your last resting-place in full strength, as the grain is taken up to the crushing-floor in its time.
27 Tel est le fruit de nos réflexions, telle est la vérité: accueille-la et prends-la à cœur.
See, we have made search with care, and it is so; it has come to our ears; see that you take note of it for yourself.
