Jérémie 45

1 Parole adressée par le prophète Jérémie à Baruch, fils de Néria, lorsque ce dernier écrivit ces discours dans un livre sous la dictée de Jérémie, dans la quatrième année du règne de Joïakim, fils de Josias, roi de Juda:

The word that Jeremiah the prophet spake unto Baruch the son of Neriah, when he had written these words in a book at the mouth of Jeremiah, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, saying,

2 "Voici ce que l’Eternel, Dieu d’Israël, dit à ton sujet, ô Baruch!

Thus saith Yhwh, the God of Israel, unto thee, O Baruch;

3 Tu t’es écrié: Malheur à moi! car l’Eternel a ajouté une nouvelle tristesse à ma douleur. Je suis exténué à force de gémir, et ne trouve plus de repos.

Thou didst say, Woe is me now! for Yhwh hath added grief to my sorrow; I fainted in my sighing, and I find no rest.

4 Voici ce que tu lui diras: L’Eternel a parlé comme suit: Certes ce que j’ai édifié, je vais le démolir; ce que j’ai planté, je vais l’arracher; il en sera ainsi de toute la terre.

Thus shalt thou say unto him, Yhwh saith thus; Behold, that which I have built will I break down, and that which I have planted I will pluck up, even this whole land.

5 Or, toi, tu aspirerais à de grandes choses! N’Y aspire point! Car voici, je vais faire fondre le malheur sur toute chair, dit l’Eternel; quant à toi, je t’assurerai la vie sauve dans tous! es lieux où tu te rendras."

And seekest thou great things for thyself? seek them not: for, behold, I will bring evil upon all flesh, saith Yhwh: but thy life will I give unto thee for a prey in all places whither thou goest.
