Jérémie 41

1 Dans le septième mois, Ismaël, fils de Netania, fils d’Elichama, qui était de race royale et un des hauts dignitaires du roi, arriva, accompagné de dix hommes, auprès de Ghedalia, fils d’Ahikam, à Miçpa; et là, à Miçpa, ils prirent part ensemble à un festin.

But in the seuenth moneth came Ishmael the sonne of Nethaniah, the sonne of Elishama of the seede royall, and the princes of the King, and tenne men with him, vnto Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam to Mizpah, and there they did eate bread together in Mizpah.

2 Puis Ismaël, fils de Netania, et les dix hommes qui étaient avec lui se levèrent, frappèrent par le glaive Ghedalia, fils d’Ahikam, fils de Chafan, et le firent périr, lui que le roi de Babylone avait nommé gouverneur du pays.

Then arose Ishmael the sonne of Nethaniah with these tenne men that were with him, and smote Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam the sonne of Shaphan with the sword, and slewe him, whom the King of Babel had made gouernour ouer the lande.

3 De même tous les Judéens qui entouraient Ghedalia à Miçpa, ainsi que les Chaldéens qui s’y trouvaientles gens de guerre, Ismaël les massacra.

Ishmael also slewe all the Iewes that were with Gedaliah at Mizpah, and all the Caldeans that were found there, and the men of warre.

4 Le second jour, après le meurtre de Ghedalia, que personne encore ne connaissait,

Now the second day that he had slaine Gedaliah, and no man knewe it,

5 des hommes arrivèrent de Sichem, de Silo et de Samarie, au nombre de quatre-vingts, ayant la barbe rasée, les vêtements déchirés et le corps tailladé, portant dans leurs mains des offrandes et de l’encens qu’ils destinaient au temple de l’Eternel.

There came men from Shechem, from Shiloh, and from Samaria, euen fourescore men, hauing their beardes shauen, and their clothes rent and cut, with offerings and incense in their hands to offer in the house of the Lord.

6 lsmaël, fils de Netania, sortit de Miçpa pour aller à leur rencontre, en pleurant tout le long de la marche, et quand il fut auprès d’eux, il leur dit: "Venez trouver Ghedalia, fils d’Ahikam."

And Ishmael the sonne of Nethaniah went forth from Mizpah to meete them, weeping as he went: and when he met them, he said vnto them, Come to Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam.

7 Mais dès qu’ils eurent pénétré dans l’intérieur de la ville, Ismaël, aidé des hommes qui étaient avec lui, les égorga et les jeta dans une citerne.

And when they came into the middes of the citie, Ishmael the sonne of Nethaniah slewe them, and cast them into the middes of the pit, he and the men that were with him.

8 Parmi eux se trouvaient dix hommes qui dirent à Ismaël: "Ne nous fais pas mourir, car nous possédons des provisions cachées dans les champs, du froment, de l’orge, de l’huile et du miel." Il les épargna et ne les tua point comme leurs frères.

But tenne men were founde among them, that saide vnto Ishmael, Slay vs not: for we haue treasures in the fielde, of wheate, and of barley, and of oyle, and of honie: so he stayed, and slew them not among their brethren.

9 Or, la citerne où Ismaël avait jeté les corps de tous les hommes qu’il avait frappés en même temps que Ghedalia, était celle que le roi Asa avait construite pour se défendre contre Baasa, roi d’Israël; c’est cette citerne qu’Ismaël, fils de Netania, remplit de cadavres.

Now the pit wherein Ishmael had cast the dead bodies of the men (whom he had slayne because of Gedaliah) is it, which Asa the King had made because of Basha King of Israel, and Ishmael the sonne of Nethaniah filled it with them that were slaine.

10 Et Ismaël fit main basse sur tout le reste de la population qui était à Miçpa, sur les princesses royales et l’ensemble des gens qui demeuraient a Miçpa et que Nebouzaradan, chef des gardes, avait placés sous l’autorité de Ghedalia, fils d’Ahikam. Ismaël, fils de Netania, les emmena tous comme prisonniers, et partit pour se rendre chez les Ammonites.

Then Ishmael caryed away captiue all the residue of the people that were in Mizpah, euen the Kings daughters, and all the people that remained in Mizpah, whom Nebuzar-adan the chiefe steward had committed to Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam, and Ishmael the sonne of Nethaniah caried them away captiue, and departed to goe ouer to the Ammonites.

11 Mais Johanan, fils de Karéah, et tous les commandants de troupes qui l’accompagnaient, ayant appris tout le mal fait par Ismaël, fils de Netania,

But when Iohanan the sonne of Kareah, and all the captaines of the hoste that were with him, heard of all the euill that Ishmael the sonne of Nethaniah had done,

12 ramassèrent tous leurs hommes, se mirent en route pour attaquer Ismaël, fils de Netania, et l’atteignirent près des grands étangs de Gabaon.

Then they all tooke their men, and went to fight with Ishmael the sonne of Nethaniah, and founde him by ye great waters that are in Gibeon.

13 Quand tout le peuple qui se trouvait avec Ismaël aperçut Johanan, fils de Karéah, et tous les commandants de troupes qui l’accompagnaient, il fut dans la joie.

Nowe when all the people whom Ishmael caryed away captiue, sawe Iohanan the sonne of Kareah, and all the captaines of the hoste, that were with him, they were glad.

14 Et tous les gens qu’Ismaël avait emmenés comme prisonniers de Miçpa firent volte face et, ayant changé de direction, se rallièrent à Johanan, fils de Karéah.

So all the people, that Ishmael had caryed away captiue from Mizpah, returned and came againe, and went vnto Iohanan the sonne of Kareah.

15 Quant à Ismaël, fils de Netania, il se sauva avec huit hommes devant Johanan et se rendit auprès des Ammonites.

But Ishmael the sonne of Nethaniah, escaped from Iohanan with eight men, and went to the Ammonites.

16 Puis Johanan, fils de Karéah, et tous les chefs de troupes qui l’accompagnaient prirent tout le restant de la population qu’Ismaël, fils de Netania, avait enlevée de, Miçpa, après avoir assassiné Ghedalia, fils d’Ahikam: les adultes combattants, les femmes, les enfants et les eunuques qu’ils avaient ramenés de Gabaon.

Then tooke Iohanan the sonne of Kareah, and all the captaines of the hoste that were with him, all the remnant of the people, whom Ishmael the sonne of Nethaniah had caried away captiue from Mizpah, (after that he had slaine Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam) euen the strong men of warre, and the women, and the children, and the eunuches, whom hee had brought againe from Gibeon:

17 Ils se mirent en route et firent halte dans le cantonnement de Kimham, près de Bethléem, dans l’intention de partir de là et de se rendre en Egypte,

And they departed and dwelt in Geruth Chimham, which is by Beth-lehem, to goe and to enter into Egypt,

18 à cause des Chaldéens, dont ils avaient peur, parce qu’Ismaël, fils de Netania, avait mis à mort Ghedalia, fils d’Ahikam, établi comme gouverneur du pays par le roi de Babylone.

Because of the Caldeans: for they feared them, because Ishmael ye sonne of Nethaniah had slaine Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam, whom the King of Babel made gouernour in the land.
