Jérémie 40
1 Communication adressée à Jérémie de la part de l’Eternel, après que Nebouzaradan, chef des gardes, l’eut renvoyé de Rama: ce dernier le fit chercher alors que, chargé de chaînes, il se trouvait confondu avec tous les expatriés de Jérusalem et de Juda que l’on déportait à Babylone.
The worde which came to Ieremiah from the Lord after that Nebuzar-adan the chiefe stewarde had let him goe from Ramath, when hee had taken him being bound in chaines among all that were caried away captiue of Ierusalem and Iudah, which were caried away captiue vnto Babel.
2 Le chef des gardes se fit amener Jérémie et lui dit: "L’Eternel, ton Dieu, avait décrété cette calamité contre ce pays.
And the chiefe stewarde tooke Ieremiah, and said vnto him, The Lord thy God hath pronounced this plague vpon this place.
3 Il l’a amenée et consommée, l’Eternel, comme il l’avait annoncée; car vous avez prévariqué contre le Seigneur et refusé d’écouter sa voix, et ainsi ces événements vous ont atteints.
Nowe the Lord hath brought it, and done according as he hath said: because ye haue sinned against the Lord, and haue not obeyed his voyce, therefore this thing is come vpon you.
4 Et maintenant, voici que je te délivre aujourd’hui des chaînes dont tes bras sont chargés. S’Il te plaît de venir avec moi à Babylone, viens, et je veillerai sur ta personne; mais s’il ne te convient pas de m’accompagner à Babylone, n’en fais rien. Examine tout le pays que tu as devant toi et va où il te paraîtra bon et convenable d’aller."
And nowe beholde, I loose thee this day from the chaines which were on thine handes, if it please thee to come with me into Babel, come, and I will looke well vnto thee: but if it please thee not to come with mee into Babel, tarie still: beholde, all the lande is before thee: whither it seemeth good, and conuenient for thee to goe, thither goe.
5 Et comme il ne s’en retournait pas encore, Nebouzaradan ajouta: "Retourne donc auprès de Ghedalia, fils d’Ahikam, fils de Chafan, que le roi de Babylone a placé à la tête des villes de Juda, et demeure avec lui parmi le peuple; ou s’il te plaît d’aller ailleurs, tu peux le faire." Et le chef des gardes lui remit des provisions et des présents et le congédia.
For yet he was not returned: therefore he said, Returne to Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam, the sonne of Shaphan, whom the King of Babel hath made gouernour ouer all the cities of Iudah, and dwell with him among the people, or goe wheresoeuer it pleaseth thee to goe. So the chiefe stewarde gaue him vitailes and a rewarde, and let him goe.
6 Jérémie se rendit auprès de Ghedalia; fils d’Ahikam, à Miçpa, et demeura avec lui au milieu de la population qui était restée dans le pays.
Then went Ieremiah vnto Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam, to Mizpah, and dwelt there with him among the people that were left in the lande.
7 Lorsque les chefs de troupes, qui se tenaient dans les campagnes, eux et leurs hommes, apprirent que le roi de Babylone avait confié à Ghedalla, fils d’Ahikam, le gouvernement du pays et placé sous son autorité hommes, femmes et enfants, appartenant à la population pauvre du pays qui n’avait pas été déportée à Babylone,
Nowe when all the captaines of the hoste, which were in the fieldes, euen they and their men heard, that the King of Babel had made Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam gouernour in the land, and that he had committed vnto him, men, and women, and children, and of the poore of the lande, that were not caried away captiue to Babel,
8 ils se rendirent auprès de Ghedalia à Miçpa: c’étaient Ismaël, fils de Netania, Johanan et Jonathan, fils de Karéah, Seraïa, fils de Tanhoumet, les fils d’Efaï de Netofa, et Yaazania, fils du Maakhatite, eux et leurs hommes.
Then they came to Gedaliah to Mizpah, euen Ishmael the sonne of Nethaniah, and Iohanan, and Ionathan the sonnes of Kareah, and Seraiah the sonne of Tanehumeth, and the sonnes of Ephai, the Netophathite, and Iezaniah the sonne of Maachathi, they and their men.
9 Ghedalia, fils d’Ahikam, fils de Chafan, les adjura eux et leurs hommes en disant: "Ne craignez pas de servir les Chaldéens; demeurez dans le pays, soyez les sujets du roi de Babylone, et vous vous en trouverez bien.
And Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam, the sonne of Shaphan sware vnto them, and to their men, saying, Feare not to serue the Caldeans: dwell in the lande, and serue the King of Babel, and it shall be well with you.
10 Pour moi, je vais résider à Miçpa, afin de rester en rapports avec les Chaldéens qui viendront à nous; et vous, recueillez du vin, des fruits, de l’huile, pour les mettre dans vos vases, et établissez-vous dans les villes dont vous avez pris possession."
As for me, Beholde, I will dwell at Mizpah to serue the Caldeans, which will come vnto vs: but you, gather you wine, and sommer fruites, and oyle, and put them in your vessels, and dwell in your cities, that ye haue taken.
11 De même tous les Judéens, répandus dans Moab, parmi les Ammonites, dans Edom et dans tous les autres pays, avaient appris que le roi de Babylone avait laissé une colonie en Judée et confié sa direction à Ghedalia, fils d’Ahikam, fils de Chafan.
Likewise when all the Iewes that were in Moab, and among the Ammonites, and in Edom, and that were in all the countries, heard that the King of Babel had left a remnant of Iudah, and that he had set ouer them Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam the sonne of Shaphan,
12 Tous ces Judéens revinrent donc de toutes les contrées où ils étaient relégués. et se rendirent auprès de Ghedalia à Miçpa; puis ils recueillirent du vin et des fruits en grande quantité.
Euen all the Iewes returned out of all places where they were driuen, and came to the land of Iudah to Gedaliah vnto Mizpah, and gathered wine and sommer fruites, very much.
13 Or Johanan, fils de Karéah et tous les officiers de troupes qui se tenaient dans les campagnes vinrent trouver Ghedalia à Miçpa,
Moreouer Iohanan the sonne of Kareah, and all the captaines of the hoste, that were in the fieldes, came to Gedaliah to Mizpah,
14 et lui dirent: "Sais-tu que Baalis, roi des Ammonites, a chargé Ismaël, fils de Netania, de t’assassiner?" Mais Ghedalla, fils d’Ahikam, ne les crut point.
And said vnto him, Knowest thou not that Baalis the King of the Ammonites hath sent Ishmael the sonne of Nethaniah to slay thee? But Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam beleeued them not.
15 Même, Johanan, fils de Karéah, avait dit confidentiellement à Ghedalia, dans la ville de Miçpa: "Laisse-moi donc aller moi-même frapper à mort Ismaël, fils de Netania, sans que personne le sache! Pourquoi te prendrait-il la vie? Pourquoi permettre, que tous les Judéens, rassemblés autour de toi, se dispersent et que c’en soit fait du reste de Juda?"
Then Iohanan the sonne of Kareah spake to Gedaliah in Mizpah secretly, saying, Let me goe, I pray thee, and I will slay Ishmael the sonne of Nethaniah, and no man shall know it. Wherefore should he kill thee, that all the Iewes, which are gathered vnto thee, shoulde be scattered, and the remnant in Iudah perish?
16 Mais Ghedalia, fils d’Ahikam, répondit à Johanan, fils de Karéah: "Ne commets pas un pareil acte; car tu accuses faussement Ismaël."
But Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam said vnto Iohanan the sonne of Kareah, Thou shalt not doe this thing: for thou speakest falsely of Ishmael.
