Jérémie 21
1 Révélation que reçut Jérémie de la part de l’Eternel, au moment où le roi Sédécias lui envoya Pachhour, fils de Malkia, et le prêtre Cephania, fils de Masséya, pour lui dire:
The word which came to Jeremiah from Jehovah, when king Zedekiah sent to him Pashhur the son of Malchijah, and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah, the priest, saying,
2 "Veuille donc solliciter l’Eternel en notre faveur, puisque Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, nous fait la guerre; peut-être l’Eternel agira-t-il à notre égard selon les merveilles qu’il accomplit, et le fera-t-il s’éloigner de nous."
Inquire, I pray thee, of Jehovah for us. For Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon makes war against us. Perhaps Jehovah will deal with us according to all his wondrous works, that he may go up from us.
3 Jérémie leur répondit: "Voici ce que vous direz à Sédécias:
Then Jeremiah said to them, Thus ye shall say to Zedekiah:
4 Telle est la parole de l’Eternel, Dieu d’Israël: Voici, tous les engins de guerre qui sont en vos mains, qui vous servent à combattre le roi de Babylone et les Chaldéens qui vous assiègent, je vais changer leur direction qui est vers l’extérieur de l’enceinte et les faire converger vers le centre de la ville.
Thus says Jehovah, the God of Israel: Behold, I will turn back the weapons of war that are in your hands, with which ye fight against the king of Babylon, and against the Chaldeans who besiege you, outside the walls. And I will gather them into the midst of this city.
5 Et moi-même j’engagerai la lutte avec vous d’une main tendue et d’un bras puissant, avec colère, emportement et violente fureur.
And I myself will fight against you with an outstretched hand and with a strong arm, even in anger, and in wrath, and in great indignation.
6 Je frapperai les habitants de cette ville, hommes et bêtes: ils périront par une peste violente.
And I will smite the inhabitants of this city, both man and beast. They shall die of a great pestilence.
7 Et après cela, dit l’Eternel, je livrerai Sédécias, roi de Juda, ses serviteurs, le peuple, tout ce qui, dans cette ville, aura échappé à la peste, au glaive et à la famine, je les livrerai au pouvoir de Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, au pouvoir de leurs ennemis, au pouvoir de ceux qui en veulent à leur vie, on les fera passer au fil de l’épée, sans ménagement, ni pitié ni merci.
And afterward, says Jehovah, I will deliver Zedekiah king of Judah, and his servants, and the people, even such as are left in this city from the pestilence, from the sword, and from the famine, into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those who seek their life, and he shall smite them with the edge of the sword. He shall not spare them, nor have pity, nor have mercy.
8 Quant à ce peuple, tu lui diras: Voici ce que déclare l’Eternel: je mets devant vous le chemin de la vie et le chemin de la mort.
And thou shall say to this people, Thus says Jehovah: Behold, I set before you the way of life and the way of death.
9 Celui qui restera dans cette ville périra par le glaive, la famine et la peste; mais celui qui en sortira et se rendra aux Chaldéens qui vous assiègent, aura la vie sauve, et son existence sera sa part de butin.
He who abides in this city shall die by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence. But he who goes out, and passes over to the Chaldeans who besiege you, he shall live, and his life shall be to him for a prey.
10 Car j’ai dirigé ma face vers cette ville pour sa perte et non pour son salut, dit l’Eternel elle sera livrée à la merci du roi de Babylone, pour qu’il la réduise en cendres.
For I have set my face upon this city for evil, and not for good, says Jehovah. It shall be given into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire.
11 Quant à la maison du roi de Juda tu lui diras: Ecoutez la parole de l’Eternel:
And concerning the house of the king of Judah, hear ye the word of Jehovah.
12 Maison de David, ainsi parle l’Eternel: "Rendez bonne justice dès la première heure, sauvez celui qui a été spolié de la main de l’oppresseur: sans cela, ma colère éclatera comme un incendie et brûlera inextinguible, à cause de la perversité de vos oeuvres."
O house of David, thus says Jehovah: Execute justice in the morning, and deliver him who is robbed out of the hand of the oppressor, lest my wrath go forth like fire, and burn so that none can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.
13 Voici, j’en veux à toi, habitante de la vallée, rocher qui te dresses dans la plaine, dit l’Eternel, à vous qui dites: Qui descendra contre nous? Qui pénétrera dans nos demeures?
Behold, I am against thee, O inhabitant of the valley, and of the rock of the plain, says Jehovah, you who say, Who shall come down against us? Or who shall enter into our habitations?
14 Je vous châtierai selon le fruit de vos oeuvres, dit l’Eternel; dans sa forêt, j’allumerai un feu qui consumera tous ses alentours.
And I will punish you according to the fruit of your doings, says Jehovah. And I will kindle a fire in her forest, and it shall devour all that is round about her.
