Jérémie 16
1 La parole de l’Eternel me fut adressée en ces termes:
The word of Jehovah came also unto me, saying,
2 "Tu n’épouseras pas de femmes et n’auras ni fils ni fille en ces lieux.
Thou shalt not take thee a wife, neither shalt thou have sons or daughters, in this place.
3 Car voici ce que décrète l’Eternel contre les fils et les filles qui naissent en ces lieux, contre leurs mères qui les mettent au jour et contre les pères qui leur donnent la vie en ce pays:
For thus saith Jehovah concerning the sons and concerning the daughters that are born in this place, and concerning their mothers that bare them, and concerning their fathers that begat them in this land:
4 Ils mourront atteints de maladies virulentes et ne seront ni pleurés ni ensevelis; ils serviront de fumier, sur la surface du sol. Et aussi par le glaive et par la famine ils périront, et leur cadavre servira de pâture aux oiseaux du ciel et aux animaux de la terre."
They shall die grievous deaths: they shall not be lamented, neither shall they be buried; they shall be as dung upon the face of the ground; and they shall be consumed by the sword, and by famine; and their dead bodies shall be food for the birds of the heavens, and for the beasts of the earth.
5 En vérité, ainsi parle l’Eternel: "N’Entre pas dans une maison de deuil, n’y va point porter des paroles de regret ni des paroles de compassion, car j’ai retiré mon amitié à ce peuple, dit l’Eternel, la bienveillance et la miséricorde.
For thus saith Jehovah, Enter not into the house of mourning, neither go to lament, neither bemoan them; for I have taken away my peace from this people, saith Jehovah, even lovingkindness and tender mercies.
6 Grands et petits mourront en ce pays et ne recevront pas de sépulture; on ne les plaindra pas, et pour eux on ne se fera pas d’incision ni on ne se rasera les cheveux.
Both great and small shall die in this land; they shall not be buried, neither shall men lament for them, nor cut themselves, nor make themselves bald for them;
7 A cause d’eux, on ne rompra pas le pain de deuil pour consoler ceux qui pleurent un mort, et on ne leur présentera pas à boire la coupe de consolation pour un père et pour une mère.
neither shall men break [bread] for them in mourning, to comfort them for the dead; neither shall men give them the cup of consolation to drink for their father or for their mother.
8 Tu éviteras de même d’entrer dans une salle de festin pour manger et boire en leur société."
And thou shalt not go into the house of feasting to sit with them, to eat and to drink.
9 Car voici ce que dit l’Eternel-Cebaot, Dieu d’Israël: "Sous vos yeux et de votre temps, je vais supprimer de ces lieux les accents d’allégresse et les chants joyeux, la voix du fiancé et la voix de la fiancée.
For thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will cause to cease out of this place, before your eyes and in your days, the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride.
10 Et lorsque tu communiqueras à ce peuple toutes ces paroles et qu’ils te demanderont: Pourquoi Dieu menace-t-il de cette grande calamité? Quels sont donc nos péchés et nos fautes que nous aurions commis contre l’Eternel, notre Dieu?
And it shall come to pass, when thou shalt show this people all these words, and they shall say unto thee, Wherefore hath Jehovah pronounced all this great evil against us? or what is our iniquity? or what is our sin that we have committed against Jehovah our God?
11 Tu leur répondras: C’Est que vos pères m’ont abandonné, dit l’Eternel, pour suivre d’autres dieux, les adorer et se courber devant eux, tandis que, moi, ils m’ont abandonné, se refusant d’observer ma loi.
then shalt thou say unto them, Because your fathers have forsaken me, saith Jehovah, and have walked after other gods, and have served them, and have worshipped them, and have forsaken me, and have not kept my law;
12 Et vous avez fait pis encore que vos pères, car vous voici chacun en train de vous abandonner aux mauvais instincts de votre coeur pour ne pas m’écouter.
and ye have done evil more than your fathers; for, behold, ye walk every one after the stubbornness of his evil heart, so that ye hearken not unto me:
13 Aussi vous rejetterai-je de ce pays dans un pays inconnu à vous et à vos pères, et là vous servirez, jour et nuit, d’autres dieux, car je ne vous ferai rencontrer aucune pitié."
therefore will I cast you forth out of this land into the land that ye have not known, neither ye nor your fathers; and there shall ye serve other gods day and night; for I will show you no favor.
14 En vérité, des jours viendront, dit l’Eternel, où l’on ne dira plus: "Vive l’Eternel qui a fait monter les enfants d’Israël du pays d’Egypte!"
Therefore, behold, the days come, saith Jehovah, that it shall no more be said, As Jehovah liveth, that brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt;
15 mais "Vive l’Eternel qui a fait monter les enfants d’Israël du pays du Nord et de toutes les contrées où il les avait exilés! "Car je les aurai ramenés sur leur territoire, que j’avais donné à leurs ancêtres.
but, As Jehovah liveth, that brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north, and from all the countries whither he had driven them. And I will bring them again into their land that I gave unto their fathers.
16 Voici, je vais convoquer de nombreux pêcheurs, dit l’Eternel, qui les pêcheront; puis, je convoquerai de nombreux chasseurs qui les pourchasseront sur toute montagne, sur toute colline et dans les fentes des rochers;
Behold, I will send for many fishers, saith Jehovah, and they shall fish them up; and afterward I will send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain, and from every hill, and out of the clefts of the rocks.
17 car mes yeux sont fixés sur toutes leurs voies; aucune ne me reste cachée, leur iniquité n’échappe point à mes regards.
For mine eyes are upon all their ways; they are not hid from my face, neither is their iniquity concealed from mine eyes.
18 Et d’abord je paierai en double leurs méfaits et leurs fautes, puisqu’ils ont déshonore mon pays et rempli mon domaine de l’infamie de leurs abominations et de leurs horreurs.
And first I will recompense their iniquity and their sin double, because they have polluted my land with the carcasses of their detestable things, and have filled mine inheritance with their abominations.
19 Eternel, ô ma force, mon appui et mon refuge au jour du malheur! Des peuples viendront à toi des confins de la terre et diront: "Nos ancêtres n’ont reçu pour héritage que le mensonge, que de vaines idoles, toutes également impuissantes.
O Jehovah, my strength, and my stronghold, and my refuge in the day of affliction, unto thee shall the nations come from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Our fathers have inherited nought but lies, [even] vanity and things wherein there is no profit.
20 Les hommes pourraient-ils se créer des dieux? Non, certes, ce ne sont pas des dieux!
Shall a man make unto himself gods, which yet are no gods?
21 Aussi, vais-je le leur faire sentir; pour le coup, je leur ferai sentir mon bras et ma puissance, et ils apprendront que je me nomme l’Eternel.
Therefore, behold, I will cause them to know, this once will I cause them to know my hand and my might; and they shall know that my name is Jehovah.
