Isaïe 8
1 L’Eternel me dit: "Prends une grande tablette et écris dessus en caractères lisibles pour la foule: proche est le pillage, imminente la déprédation."
Moreover, the Lord sayd vnto me, Take thee a great roll, and write in it with a mans penne, Make speede to the spoyle: haste to the praye.
2 Je me fis assister de témoins dignes de foi, d’Urie le pontife et de Zacharie, fils de Yebérékhyahou.
Then I tooke vnto me faithfull witnesses to recorde, Vriah the Priest, and Zechariah the sonne of Ieberechiah.
3 Et je m’approchai de la prophétesse, qui conçut et enfanta un fils. Le Seigneur me dit: "Appelle-le du nom de Mahêr-Chalal Hach-Baz.
After, I came vnto the Prophetesse, which conceiued, and bare a sonne. Then sayd the Lord to me, Call his name, Mahershalalhash-baz.
4 Car l’enfant ne saura pas encore dire: Mon père, ma mère, que déjà on emportera devant le roi d’Assyrie les richesses de Damas et les dépouilles de Samarie."
For before the childe shall haue knowledge to crye, My father, and my mother, he shall take away the riches of Damascus and the spoyle of Samaria, before the King of Asshur.
5 L’Eternel continua à me parler en ces termes:
And the Lord spake yet againe vnto me, saying,
6 "Puisque ce peuple a dédaigné les eaux de Siloé au cours paisible et vu avec plaisir Recen et le fils de Remalyahou,
Because this people hath refused the waters of Shiloah that runne softly, and reioyce with Rezin, and the sonne of Remaliah,
7 voici, le Seigneur dirigera contre eux les eaux puissantes et abondantes du Fleuve le roi d’Assyrie avec toutes ses forces; il montera par-dessus son lit et débordera sur toutes ses rives.
Nowe therefore, beholde, the Lord bringeth vp vpon them the waters of the Riuer mightie and great, euen the King of Asshur with all his glory, and he shall come vp vpon all their riuers, and goe ouer all their banks,
8 Il se précipitera sur Juda, entraînant tout sur son passage, arrivant jusqu’au cou, et l’envergure de ses—ailes couvrira toute l’étendue de ton pays, ô Immanouel!"
And shall breake into Iudah, and shall ouerflowe and passe through, and shall come vp to the necke, and the stretching out of his wings shall fill the breadth of thy land, O Immanu-el.
9 Agitez-vous bruyamment, peuples, vous serez brisés; entendez cela, ô contrées reculées de la terre, armez-vous, préparez-vous au combat, vous serez brisées!
Gather together on heapes, O ye people, and ye shalbe broken in pieces, and hearken all ye of farre countreys: gird your selues, and you shalbe broken in pieces: gird your selues, and you shalbe broken in pieces.
10 Concertez des plans: ils échoueront; annoncez des résolutions: elles ne tiendront pas. Car l’Eternel est avec nous.
Take counsell together, yet it shall be brought to nought: pronounce a decree, yet shall it not stand: for God is with vs.
11 Car, ainsi me parla le Seigneur, avec une force impérieuse, en m’exhortant sévèrement de ne pas marcher dans la voie de ce peuple:
For the Lord spake thus to me in taking of mine hand, and taught me, that I should not walke in the way of this people, saying,
12 "N’Appelez point coalition ce que ce peuple appelle coalition, ne craignez pas ce qui cause sa terreur; n’en tremblez point."
Say ye not, A confederacie to all them, to whome this people sayth a confederacie, neither feare you their feare, nor be afrayd of them.
13 C’Est l’Eternel-Cebaot que vous devez sanctifier; qu’il soit l’objet de vos craintes et de vos appréhensions.
Sanctifie the Lord of hostes, and let him be your feare, and let him be your dread,
14 Il est un saint Refuge, mais il sera aussi une pierre d’achoppement, un écueil propre à faire trébucher pour les deux maisons d’Israël, un piège et un filet pour les habitants de Jérusalem.
And he shalbe as a Sanctuarie: but as a stumbling stone, and as a rocke to fall vpon, to both the houses of Israel, and as a snare and as a net to the inhabitants of Ierusalem.
15 Beaucoup d’entre eux s’y heurteront et se briseront en tombant; ils s’embarrasseront dans le filet et y resteront pris.
And many among them shall stumble, and shall fall and shalbe broken and shalbe snared and shalbe taken.
16 Il faut tenir secrète la leçon, mettre un sceau sur l’enseignement parmi mes disciples.
Binde vp the testimonie: seale vp the Law among my disciples.
17 J’Ai mis ma confiance en Dieu, qui voile présentement sa face à la maison de Jacob, et j’espère en lui.
Therefore I will waite vpon the Lord that hath hid his face from the house of Iaakob, and I wil looke for him.
18 Voici, moi et les enfants que l’Eternel m’a donnés, nous servirons de signes et d’avertissements de la part de l’Eternel-Cebaot, qui réside sur le mont Sion.
Beholde, I and the children whome the Lord hath giuen me, are as signes and as wonders in Israel, by the Lord of hostes, which dwelleth in mount Zion.
19 Que si l’on vous dit: "Allez consulter nécromanciens et devins, ceux qui chuchotent et marmottent; n’est-il pas vrai que tout peuple interroge son dieu? Qu’il s’adresse aux morts en faveur des vivants?"
And when they shall say vnto you, Enquire at them that haue a spirit of diuination, and at the soothsayers, which whisper and murmure, Should not a people enquire at their God? from the liuing to the dead?
20 Tirez-en un enseignement, une leçon: assurément, on proférera des paroles de ce genre qui n’ont pas une lueur de raison.
To the Law, and to the testimonie, if they speake not according to this worde: it is because there is no light in them.
21 Aussi les gens circulent-ils dans le pays misérables et affamés; quand la faim les presse, ils s’emportent, maudissent leur roi et leur Dieu et se tournent vers le ciel.
Then he that is afflicted and famished, shall go to and from in it: and when he shalbe hungry, he shall euen freat himselfe, and curse his King and his gods, and shall looke vpward.
22 Puis, ils regardent à terre, et voici, ce n’est que misère sombre, accablement et angoisses, et ténèbres sans limite.
And when he shall looke to the earth, beholde trouble, and darkenes, vexation and anguish, and he is driuen to darkenes.
