Isaïe 44
1 Or, écoute, Jacob, ô mon serviteur! Israël, toi mon élu!
Yet nowe heare, O Iaakob my seruant, and Israel, whom I haue chosen.
2 Ainsi parle l’Eternel, ton auteur, qui t’a formé dès le sein maternel, et qui sera ton appui: "Sois sans crainte, ô mon serviteur Jacob, Yechouroun, mon élu!
Thus sayeth the Lord, that made thee, and formed thee from the wombe: he wil helpe thee. Feare not, O Iaakob, my seruaunt, and thou righteous, whome I haue chosen.
3 Car je veux répandre de l’eau sur le sol altéré, des rivières sur la terre aride; je veux répandre mon esprit sur ta postérité et ma bénédiction sur tes descendants.
For I will powre water vpon the thirstie, and floods vpon the drie grounde: I will powre my Spirit vpon thy seede, and my blessing vpon thy buddes.
4 Ils pousseront à travers les herbages comme les saules au bord des eaux courantes.
And they shall grow as among the grasse, and as the willowes by the riuers of waters.
5 L’Un dira: "Je suis à l’Eternel," l’autre se réclamera du nom de Jacob; tel signera de sa main pour le Seigneur et se fera gloire du nom d’Isràël.
One shall say, I am the Lordes: another shalbe called by the name of Iaakob: and another shall subscribe with his hand vnto the Lord, and name himselfe by the name of Israel.
6 Ainsi parle l’Eternel, roi et libérateur d’Israël, l’Eternel-Cebaot: "Je suis le premier, je suis le dernier, hors moi point de Dieu!
Thus saith the Lord the King of Israel and his redeemer, the Lord of hostes, I am the first, and I am the last, and without me is there no God.
7 Qui est comme moi? Qu’il proclame, qu’il expose qu’il me déduise les faits, depuis que j’ai fondé les races primitives; et les faits prochains et ceux de l’avenir, qu’il les annonce!
And who is like me, that shall call, and shall declare it, and set it in order before me, since I appointed the ancient people? and what is at hand, and what things are to come? let them shewe vnto them.
8 Ne craignez rien, ne vous alarmez point: ne vous l’ai-je pas dès longtemps appris et révélé, et n’êtes-vous pas mes témoins? Est-il un Dieu autre que moi, un Rocher protecteur sans mon aveu?
Feare ye not, neither be afraide: haue not I tolde thee of olde, and haue declared it? you are euen my witnesses, whether there be a God beside me, and that there is no God that I knowe not.
9 Les fabricants d’images sculptées sont tous néant, et leurs beaux ouvrages ne servent de rien; eux-mêmes en sont témoins, mais ils ne voient ni ne comprennent, aussi seront-ils confondus.
All they that make an image, are vanitie, and their delectable things shall nothing profite: and they are their owne witnesses, that they see not nor know: therefore they shalbe confounded.
10 Qui donc va façonner un dieu, mouler une statue, incapables de se rendre utiles?
Who hath made a god, or molten an image, that is profitable for nothing?
11 Certes tous ses adeptes seront confondus, les artisans eux-mêmes ne sont que des mortels. Qu’ils s’assemblent tous, qu’ils comparaissent! Ils seront terrifiés et confondus ensemble.
Beholde, all that are of the fellowship thereof, shall be confounded: for the workemen themselues are men: let them all be gathered together, and stand vp, yet they shall feare, and be confounded together.
12 L’Ouvrier qui travaille le fer manie une hache, attise les charbons, façonne la chose à coups de marteau; il y dépense toute la force de son bras, endure et la faim qui l’exténue et la soif qui l’épuise.
The smith taketh an instrument, and worketh in the coles, and facioneth it with hammers, and worketh it with the strength of his armes: yea, he is an hungred, and his strength faileth: he drinketh no water, and is faint.
13 L’Ouvrier qui travaille le bois étend le cordeau, dessine l’idole avec la craie, la polit avec le rabot et la proportionne à l’aide du compas; il la modèle d’après la forme humaine, magnifique simulacre d’homme, pour être à demeure fixe dans la maison!
The carpenter stretcheth out a line: he facioneth it with a red thread, he planeth it, and he purtreyeth it with the compasse, and maketh it after the figure of a man, and according to the beautie of a man that it may remaine in an house.
14 Il s’est coupé des cèdres, il a pris un rouvre et un chêne, en les choisissant vigoureux parmi les arbres de la forêt; il a planté des pins, que la pluie fait grandir.
He will hewe him downe cedars, and take the pine tree and the oke, and taketh courage among the trees of the forest: he planteth a firre tree, and the raine doeth nourish it.
15 Tout cela sert à l’homme de combustible; il en prend une partie pour se chauffer, une autre pour allumer le feu qui doit faire cuire son pain; puis encore il fait un dieu et tombe à genoux, en taille une idole et se courbe devant elle!
And man burneth thereof: for he will take thereof and warme himselfe: he also kindleth it and baketh bread, yet he maketh a god, and worshippeth it: he maketh it an idole and boweth vnto it.
16 La moitié donc, il la livre au feu; sur cette moitié il met rôtir sa viande, la mange et s’en rassasie; ou bien il s’y chauffe et dit: "Ah! la bonne chaleur! Je sens la flamme!"
He burneth the halfe thereof euen in the fire, and vpon the halfe thereof he eateth flesh: he rosteth the roste and is satisfied: also he warmeth himselfe and sayth, Aha, I am warme, I haue bene at the fire.
17 Et puis le reste, il en fait un dieu, son idole; il l’adore, il se prosterne, il lui adresse des prières et s’écrie: "Protège-moi, car, tu es mon Dieu!"
And the residue thereof he maketh a god, euen his idole: he boweth vnto it, and worshippeth and prayeth vnto it, and sayeth, Deliuer me: for thou art my god.
18 Ils ne savent pas, ils ne comprennent pas! Non, leur œil est trop obtus pour voir, leur cœur pour comprendre.
They haue not knowen, nor vnderstand: for God hath shut their eyes that they cannot see, and their heartes, that they cannot vnderstand.
19 Pas un ne réfléchit en lui-même, n’a de sens ni de raison pour dire: "J’Ai employé la moitié à faire du feu, et sur ses charbons j’ai cuit le pain, rôti la viande dont je me nourris, et du restant je ferais une impure idole, je rendrais hommage à une souche de bois!"
And none considereth in his heart, neither is there knowledge nor vnderstanding to say, I haue burnt halfe of it, euen in the fire, and haue baked bread also vpon the coles thereof: I haue rosted flesh, and eaten it, and shall I make the residue thereof an abomination? shall I bowe to the stocke of a tree?
20 Il se repaît de cendres, son cœur abusé l’égare, il ne sait pas s’affranchir lui-même en disant: "N’Est-ce pas le mensonge qu’étreint ma main?"
He feedeth of ashes: a seduced heart hath deceiued him, that he cannot deliuer his soule, nor say, Is there not a lye in my right hand?
21 Songe à ceci, Jacob, et toi, ô Israël, car tu es mon serviteur; je t’ai formé expressément, toi, pour être mon serviteur: Israël, ne m’oublie pas!
Remember these (O Iaakob and Israel) for thou art my seruant: I haue formed thee: thou art my seruant: O Israel forget me not.
22 J’Ai dissipé tes méfaits comme un brouillard et tes péchés comme un nuage. Reviens à moi, je suis ton libérateur.
I haue put away thy transgressions like a cloude, and thy sinnes, as a mist: turne vnto me, for I haue redeemed thee.
23 Chantez, cieux, car l’Eternel a agi; résonnez, profondeurs de la terre; éclatez en cris de joie, montagnes et vous, forêts, avec tous vos arbres! Car l’Eternel a délivré Jacob, et il s’est rendu glorieux en Israël.
Reioyce, ye heauens: for the Lord hath done it: shoute, ye lower partes of the earth: brast foorth into prayses, ye mountaines, O forest and euery tree therein: for the Lord hath redeemed Iaakob and will be glorified in Israel.
24 Ainsi parle l’Eternel, ton libérateur, qui t’a formé dès le sein maternel: "Je suis l’Eterne!, L’Auteur de toute chose, je déploie les cieux à moi seul, j’étends la terre, et personne ne me seconde.
Thus sayeth the Lord thy redeemer and he that formed thee from the wombe, I am the Lord, that made all things, that spred out the heauens alone, and stretched out the earth by my selfe.
25 J’Annule les présages des diseurs de mensonges, je frappe de démence les devins, force les sages de reculer et fais taxer de folie leur science.
I destroy the tokens of ye southsayers, and make them that coniecture, fooles, and turne the wise men backwarde, and make their knowledge foolishnesse.
26 J’Accomplis la parole de mon serviteur et fais aboutir le dessein de mes mandataires, je dis de Jérusalem "Elle sera habitée!" et des villes de Juda: "Elles seront rebâties, je relèverai leurs ruines!"
He confirmeth the worde of his seruant and performeth the counsell of his messengers, saying to Ierusalem, Thou shalt bee inhabited: and to the cities of Iudah, Yee shall be built vp, and I will repayre the decayed places thereof.
27 Je dis aux eaux profondes: "Desséchez-vous!" Je tarirai tes fleuves.
He saith to the deepe, Be drye and I will drye vp thy floods.
28 Je dis à Cyrus: "Tu es mon berger!" Lui, il exécutera ma volonté tout entière quand il dira à Jérusalem: "Sois rebâtie!" et au sanctuaire: "Sois fondé!"
He saith to Cyrus, Thou art my shepheard: and he shall performe all my desire: saying also to Ierusalem, Thou shalt be built: and to the Temple, Thy foundation shall be surely layed.
