Isaïe 38

1 En ce temps-là, Ezéchias fut atteint d’une maladie mortelle. Le prophète Isaïe, fils d’Amoç, lui rendit visite et lui dit: "Ainsi parle l’Eternel: Donne tes ordres à ta maison, car tu vas mourir; tu ne te rétabliras pas."

In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came unto him, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Set thine house in order: for thou shalt die, and not live.

2 Ezéchias tourna la face vers le mur et implora l’Eternel,

Then Hezekiah turned his face toward the wall, and prayed unto the LORD,

3 en ces termes: "De grâce, Seigneur, daigne te souvenir que j’ai marché devant toi fidèlement et d’un cœur sincère, et que j’ai fait ce qui te plaît!" Puis il éclata en longs sanglots.

And said, Remember now, O LORD, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done [that which is] good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore.

4 L’Eternel s’adressa alors à Isaïe en lui disant:

Then came the word of the LORD to Isaiah, saying,

5 "Va, et parle ainsi à Ezéchias: Voici ce que déclare l’Eternel, le Dieu de David, ton père: J’Ai entendu ta prière et vu tes larmes, je prolongerai ta vie de quinze ans.

Go, and say to Hezekiah, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will add unto thy days fifteen years.

6 Je te délivrerai ainsi que cette ville de la main du roi d’Assyrie, et j’étendrai ma protection sur cette ville.

And I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria: and I will defend this city.

7 Et ceci est le signe que t’accorde l’Eternel pour te prouver qu’il accomplira la parole qu’il a prononcée:

And this [shall be] a sign unto thee from the LORD, that the LORD will do this thing that he hath spoken;

8 je vais faire revenir de dix degrés en arrière l’ombre qui était descendue sur le cadran solaire d’Achaz." Et l’ombre revint de dix degrés en arrière sur le cadran où elle était descendue.

Behold, I will bring again the shadow of the degrees, which is gone down in the sun dial of Ahaz, ten degrees backward. So the sun returned ten degrees, by which degrees it was gone down.

9 Cantique d’Ezéchias, roi de Juda, composé à l’occasion de sa maladie, maladie dont il guérit:

The writing of Hezekiah king of Judah, when he had been sick, and was recovered of his sickness:

10 Moi, je disais: par suite de la ruine de mes jours, je vais franchir les portes du Cheol; je suis frustré du surplus de mes ans. (Sheol h7585)

I said in the cutting off of my days, I shall go to the gates of the grave: I am deprived of the residue of my years. (Sheol h7585)

11 Je disais: je ne verrai plus Dieu, mon Dieu, dans le pays des vivants; relégué chez les habitants du néant, je ne poserai plus mon regard sur les humains.

I said, I shall not see the LORD, [even] the LORD, in the land of the living: I shall behold man no more with the inhabitants of the world.

12 Ma demeure est déracinée, emportée loin de moi comme une tente de berger; j’ai vu trancher ma vie comme par le tisserand qui m’aurait violemment séparé de la trame: du matin au soir tu m’auras achevé!

Mine age is departed, and is removed from me as a shepherd’s tent: I have cut off like a weaver my life: he will cut me off with pining sickness: from day [even] to night wilt thou make an end of me.

13 Je tournais mon attente vers le matin, mais, comme un lion, on a brisé tous mes os: du matin au soir tu m’auras achevé!

I reckoned till morning, [that], as a lion, so will he break all my bones: from day [even] to night wilt thou make an end of me.

14 Ainsi qu’une hirondelle plaintive, je gémissais, je roucoulais comme une colombe; mes yeux s’élevaient languissants en haut: Seigneur, je suis accablé, garantis-moi!

Like a crane [or] a swallow, so did I chatter: I did mourn as a dove: mine eyes fail [with looking] upward: O LORD, I am oppressed; undertake for me.

15 Que dirai-je? II a parlé et il a agi: pendant toute mon existence, je marcherai avec humilité au souvenir de l’amertume de mon cœur.

What shall I say? he hath both spoken unto me, and himself hath done [it: ] I shall go softly all my years in the bitterness of my soul.

16 Seigneur, c’est là le devoir de ceux qui vivent, de tous ceux qu’anime comme moi le souffle de vie. Tu m’as rendu force et santé.

O Lord, by these [things men] live, and in all these [things is] the life of my spirit: so wilt thou recover me, and make me to live.

17 Voici que ma profonde amertume s’est changée en paix; et toi, dans ton amour, tu as préservé mon âme de la fosse de perdition, car tu as jeté derrière toi toutes mes fautes.

Behold, for peace I had great bitterness: but thou hast in love to my soul [delivered it] from the pit of corruption: for thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back.

18 Aussi bien ce n’est pas le Cheol qui te célèbre, ce n’est pas la mort qui te loue; ceux qui sont descendus dans le sépulcre ne comptent plus sur ta fidélité. (Sheol h7585)

For the grave cannot praise thee, death can [not] celebrate thee: they that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth. (Sheol h7585)

19 Le vivant, le vivant, voilà celui qui te loue, comme je le fais aujourd’hui; le père à ses enfants enseigne ta fidélité.

The living, the living, he shall praise thee, as I [do] this day: the father to the children shall make known thy truth.

20 Eternel, je te dois mon salut; aussi nous ferons résonner nos lyres, tous les jours de notre vie, auprès de la maison du Seigneur.

The LORD [was ready] to save me: therefore we will sing my songs to the stringed instruments all the days of our life in the house of the LORD.

21 Isaïe dit: "Qu’on prenne un gâteau de figues, qu’on l’applique sur l’ulcère, et il guérira."

For Isaiah had said, Let them take a lump of figs, and lay [it] for a plaister upon the boil, and he shall recover.

22 Ezéchias demanda: "À quel signe reconnaîtrai-je que je pourrai monter dans la maison de Dieu?"

Hezekiah also had said, What [is] the sign that I shall go up to the house of the LORD?
