Isaïe 34
1 Approchez, peuples, pour entendre, nations, soyez attentives; que la terre écoute, elle et tout ce qui la remplit, le globe avec toutes ses créatures!
Come near, all of you nations, to hear; and hearken, all of you people: let the earth hear, and all that is therein; the world, and all things that come out of it.
2 Car l’Eternel est irrité contre tous les peuples et en colère contre toutes leurs légions: il les a frappés d’anathème, voués au carnage.
For the indignation of the LORD is upon all nations, and his fury upon all their armies: he has utterly destroyed them, he has delivered them to the slaughter.
3 Leurs morts jonchent le sol, leurs cadavres répandent une odeur putride, leur sang fait fondre les montagnes.
Their slain also shall be cast out, and their stink shall come up out of their carcasses, and the mountains shall be melted with their blood.
4 Toute la milice céleste se dissout, les cieux sont roulés comme un livre, et tous leurs astres tombent comme tombent la feuille de la vigne et le fruit desséché du figuier.
And all the host of heaven shall be dissolved, and the heavens shall be rolled together as a scroll: and all their host shall fall down, as the leaf falls off from the vine, and as a falling fig from the fig tree.
5 Déjà mon glaive est ivre de sang au ciel; le voici qui s’abat sur Edom, sur le peuple que j’ai frappé d’anathème, pour faire justice.
For my sword shall be bathed in heaven: behold, it shall come down upon Idumea, and upon the people of my curse, to judgment.
6 Le glaive du Seigneur dégoutte de sang, est luisant de graisse: c’est le sang des agneaux et des boucs, la graisse des reins des béliers; car un festin se prépare pour le Seigneur, à Boçra, de grandes hécatombes dans le pays d’Edom.
The sword of the LORD is filled with blood, it is made fat with fatness, and with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of the kidneys of rams: for the LORD has a sacrifice in Bozrah, and a great slaughter in the land of Idumea.
7 Des buffles tombent en même temps, des taureaux et des bœufs; leur pays est inondé de sang, et la poussière de leur sol saturée de graisse.
And the unicorns shall come down with them, and the bullocks with the bulls; and their land shall be soaked with blood, and their dust made fat with fatness.
8 C’Est un jour de vengeance pour l’Eternel, une année de représailles pour la cause de Sion.
For it is the day of the LORD's vengeance, and the year of recompences for the controversy of Zion.
9 Les rivières d’Edom se changeront en poix, sa poussière en soufre; ainsi son pays sera comme de la poix en feu,
And the streams thereof shall be turned into pitch, and the dust thereof into brimstone, and the land thereof shall become burning pitch.
10 qui ne s’éteindra ni la nuit ni le jour, et d’où s’échapperont sans cesse des colonnes de fumée. Il demeurera en ruines de génération en génération, et, en aucun temps, nul n’y passera plus.
It shall not be quenched night nor day; the smoke thereof shall go up for ever: from generation to generation it shall lie waste; none shall pass through it for ever and ever.
11 C’Est le pélican et le hibou qui en prendront possession; la chouette et le corbeau en feront leur demeure. On étendra sur ce pays le cordeau de la destruction et le niveau de la ruine.
But the cormorant and the bittern shall possess it; the owl also and the raven shall dwell in it: and he shall stretch out upon it the line of confusion, and the stones of emptiness.
12 Ses nobles il n’y en aura plus pour proclamer la royauté, et tous ses grands seront réduits à néant.
They shall call the nobles thereof to the kingdom, but none shall be there, and all her princes shall be nothing.
13 Ses palais seront envahis par les broussailles, ses forteresses par les orties et les chardons; ils deviendront la demeure des chacals, le séjour des autruches.
And thorns shall come up in her palaces, nettles and brambles in the fortresses thereof: and it shall be an habitation of dragons, and a court for owls.
14 Là se rencontreront chats sauvages et chiens sauvages, là les satyres se donneront rendez-vous, là Lilit elle-même établira son gîte et trouvera une retraite tranquille.
The wild beasts of the desert shall also meet with the wild beasts of the island, and the satyr shall cry to his fellow; the screech owl also shall rest there, and find for herself a place of rest.
15 Là aussi nichera la vipère; elle y déposera ses œufs, les fera éclore et rassemblera les petits sous son ombre; là enfin se réuniront en troupe les vautours.
There shall the great owl make her nest, and lay, and hatch, and gather under her shadow: there shall the vultures also be gathered, every one with her mate.
16 Interrogez le livre de Dieu et lisez: nulle de ces bêtes ne fait défaut, l’absence d’aucune n’est signalée. C’Est que la bouche de l’Eternel les a convoquées, c’est ton souffle qui les a groupées.
Seek all of you out of the book of the LORD, and read: no one of these shall fail, none shall lack her mate: for my mouth it has commanded, and his spirit it has gathered them.
17 Lui-même a jeté le sort pour elles, et sa main leur a mesuré une part au cordeau: elles en conserveront éternellement la possession et y séjourneront de génération en génération.
And he has cast the lot for them, and his hand has divided it unto them by line: they shall possess it for ever, from generation to generation shall they dwell therein.
