Isaïe 23
1 Oracle contre Tyr: Lamentez-vous, vaisseaux de Tarchich, car elle est dévastée: plus de maisons, plus de port d’accès! La nouvelle leur en a été annoncée de Kittim.
THE WORD CONCERNING TYRE. Howl, you ships of Carthage; for she has perished, and [men] no longer arrive from the land of the Citians: she is led captive.
2 Habitants de la côte, soyez muets de stupeur, vous que gorgeaient de richesses les marchands de Sidon, ces hardis navigateurs.
To whom are the dwellers in the island become like, the merchants of Phoenice, passing over the sea
3 À travers les vastes flots, les grains du Chihor, les moissons du Nil venaient l’approvisionner; elle était le marché des nations.
in great waters, a generation of merchants? as when the harvest is gathered in, [so are] these traders with the nations.
4 Sidon, rougis de honte, car ainsi parle la mer, la citadelle de la mer: "Je n’ai point ressenti de douleurs, je n’ai pas enfanté, je n’ai point nourri de jeunes gens ni élevé de jeunes filles."
Be ashamed, O Sidon: the sea has said, yes, the strength of the sea has said, I have not travailed, nor brought forth, nor have I brought up young men, nor reared virgins.
5 Tout comme les nouvelles arrivées d’Egypte, les nouvelles venant de Tyr sèment la terreur.
Moreover when it shall be heard in Egypt, sorrow shall seize them for Tyre.
6 Emigrez à Tarchich, lamentez-vous, habitants de la côte!
Depart you to Carthage; howl, you that dwell in this island.
7 Est-ce là cette ville si triomphante à votre gré, contemporaine des jours antiques, que ses pieds portaient au loin pour fonder des demeures?
Was not this your pride from the beginning, before she was given up?
8 Qui donc a conçu ce dessein contre Tyr, à la riche couronne, dont les trafiquants sont des princes et les marchands des grands de la terre?
Who has devised this counsel against Tyre? Is she inferior? or has she no strength? her merchants were the glorious princes of the earth.
9 C’Est l’Eternel-Cebaot qui l’a conçu, pour abattre l’orgueil de tout ce faste, pour humilier tous ces grands de la terre.
The Lord of hosts has purposed to bring down all the pride of the glorious ones, and to disgrace every glorious thing on the earth.
10 Parcours à présent ton territoire, pareille à un fleuve, ô fille de Tarchich: il n’est plus d’obstacle.
Till your land; for ships no more come out of Carthage.
11 L’Eternel a étendu la main sur la mer, il a fait trembler les royaumes; il a décrété contre Canaan la ruine de ses forteresses.
And your hand prevails no more by sea, which troubled kings: the Lord of hosts has given a command concerning Chanaan, to destroy the strength thereof.
12 Il a dit: "Tu ne continueras plus à triompher; opprimée maintenant, mets-toi en route, vierge, fille de Sidon, passe dans le pays de Kittim: mais là même, point de repos pour toi!…
And [men] shall say, You shall no longer at all continue to insult and injure the daughter of Sidon: and if you depart to the Citians, neither there shall you have rest.
13 Voyez ce pays des Chaldéens, ce peuple qui n’était pas jadis, ces nomades du désert qu’Achour a solidement établis: ils ont érigé des tours contre Tyr, ils en ont démoli les palais et fait d’elle une ruine!
And [if you depart] to the land of the Chaldeans, this also is laid waste by the Assyrians, for her wall is fallen.
14 Lamentez-vous, vaisseaux de Tarchich, car votre citadelle est détruite!
Howl, you ships of Carthage: for your strong hold is destroyed.
15 En ce jour, Tyr tombera en oubli pour soixante-dix ans, juste la durée d’un seul règne. Au bout des soixante-dix ans, il adviendra de Tyr ce que dit la chanson de la courtisane:
And it shall come to pass in that day, [that] Tyre shall be left seventy years, as the time of a king, as the time of a man: and it shall come to pass after seventy years, [that] Tyre shall be as the song of a harlot.
16 "Prends la harpe, fais le tour de la ville, courtisane oubliée; tâche de bien jouer, multiplie tes chants, pour qu’on se ressouvienne de toi!"
Take a harp, go about, O city, you harlot that have been forgotten; play well on the harp, sing many [songs], that you may be remembered.
17 Donc au bout de soixante-dix ans, l’Eternel pensera à Tyr, et celle-ci reprendra le cours de ses profits impurs et de ses débauches avec tous les royaumes de la terre, qui couvrent la surface du globe.
And it shall come to pass after the seventy years, [that] God will visit Tyre, and she shall be again restored to her primitive state, and she shall be a mart for all the kingdoms of the world on the face of the earth.
18 Mais son gain et ses salaires impurs seront consacrés à l’Eternel; ils ne seront pas entassés ni mis en réserve: les profits de son trafic sont destinés à ceux qui demeurent en présence de l’Eternel, pour qu’ils puissent manger en abondance et se vêtir de façon somptueuse.
And her trade and her gain shall be holiness to the Lord: it shall not be gathered for them, but for those that dwell before the Lord, [even] all her trade, to eat and drink and be filled, and for a covenant [and] a memorial before the Lord.
