Isaïe 20

1 L’Année où Tartân arriva à Asdod, envoyé par le roi Sargôn, mit le siège devant cette ville et s’en empara,

In the year that Tartan came unto Ashdod, when Sargon the king of Assyria sent him, and he fought against Ashdod and took it;

2 à cette époque, le Seigneur, s’adressant à Isaïe, fils d’Amoç, lui parla ainsi: "Va, dénoue le cilice qui couvre tes reins et ôte les souliers de tes pieds." Se conformant à cet ordre, le prophète alla dévêtu et déchaussé.

at that time the LORD spake by Isaiah the son of Amoz, saying, Go, and loose sackcloth from off thy loins, and put thy shoe from off thy foot. And he did so, walking naked and barefoot.

3 Le Seigneur dit alors: "De même que mon serviteur Isaïe est allé dévêtu et déchaussé pour servir, pendant trois ans, de signe et de présage à l’Egypte et à l’Ethiopie,

And the LORD said, Like as my servant Isaiah hath walked naked and barefoot three years for a sign and a wonder upon Egypt and upon Ethiopia;

4 de même les captifs d’Egypte et les exilés d’Ethiopie jeunes et vieux, le roi d’Assyrie les emmènera dévêtus et déchaussés, découverts jusqu’au bas des reins, à la honte de l’Egypte.

so shall the king of Assyria lead away the captives of Egypt, and the exiles of Ethiopia, young and old, naked and barefoot, and with buttocks uncovered, to the shame of Egypt.

5 Ils seront terrorisés alors et pleins de confusion à cause de l’Ethiopie, qui était leur espoir, et de, l’Egypte, dont ils s’étaient glorifiés;

And they shall be dismayed and ashamed, because of Ethiopia their expectation, and of Egypt their glory.

6 et les habitants de ces côtes diront en ce jour: "Voilà où en est celui qui fut notre espoir et chez qui nous courûmes chercher une protection efficace contre le roi d’Assyrie! Comment pourrons-nous échapper maintenant?"

And the inhabitant of this coastland shall say in that day, Behold, such is our expectation, whither we fled for help to be delivered from the king of Assyria: and we, how shall we escape?
