Osée 12
1 Ephraïm se repaît de vent, et court après les rafales de l’Est; sans cesse il entasse la fraude et la violence. Ils font alliance avec Achour, et des cadeaux d’huile sont portés en Egypte.
Ephraim, feedeth on wind, and pursueth the east wind, all the day, falsehood and force, doth he magnify, —and, a covenant with Assyria, would they solemnize, and, oil into Egypt, must be borne along.
2 L’Eternel va donc mettre en cause Juda, il va faire justice de Jacob selon sa conduite et le rémunérer selon ses œuvres.
But, a controversy, hath Yahweh with Judah, —so that he may bring punishment on Jacob, according to his ways, According to his doings, repay him.
3 Dès le sein maternel, il supplanta son frère et dans sa virilité il triompha d’un Dieu.
In the womb, took he his brother by the heel; and, in his manly vigour, strove he with God:
4 Il lutta contre un ange et fut vainqueur, et celui-ci pleura et demanda grâce: il devait le retrouver à Béthel, et là, il parla en notre faveur.
Yea he strove against a Messenger, and prevailed, he wept, and made supplication unto him, —At Bethel, he found him, and, there, he spake with us;
5 Oui, l’Eternel, le Dieu-Cebaot, l’Eternel est son titre.
And, Yahweh, is God of host, —Yahweh, is his memorial.
6 O toi, reviens donc au sein de ton Dieu, sois fidèle à la vertu et la droiture, et espère en Dieu constamment.
Thou, therefore, by thy God, shalt return, —lovingkindness and justice, do thou keep, so wait thou for thy God, continually.
7 Le Cananéen manie des balances frauduleuses, il aime pratiquer le dol.
A trafficker! in his hand, are balances of deceit, to oppress, he loveth.
8 Ephraïm aussi a dit: "Pourvu que je m’enrichisse, que j’acquière la puissance! Quel que soit le fruit de mes peines, on ne surprendra chez moi aucun méfait, rien qui soit une faute."
So then Ephraim said, Surely I have gotten me riches, I have found wealth for myself, —in all my toils, they cannot find in me perversity which is sin.
9 Et moi, l’Eternel, qui fus ton Dieu à dater du pays d’Egypte, je te rétablirais dans tes tentes comme aux jours mémorables!
But, I, Yahweh, have been thy God, from the land of Egypt, —I will yet make thee dwell in tents, as in the days of appointed meeting.
10 Et je parlerais aux prophètes! et je multiplierais les apparitions et, par la voix des prophètes, je ferais connaître des visions,
And I will lay my word upon the prophets, yea, I myself, have magnified, vision, —and, by the hand of the prophets, will I use similitudes.
11 alors que Ghilead est inique et traître, alors que dans Ghilgal on égorge des victimes; alors que leurs autels sont aussi nombreux que les glèbes dans les sillons d’un champ!
If, Gilead, is in sorrow, surely false, have they been, In Gilgal, have they sacrificed, bullocks, —their very altars, shall become as heaps upon the furrows of the field.
12 Jacob s’était réfugié sur le territoire d’Aram; Israël avait été esclave pour une femme, pour une femme il avait été pâtre;
When Jacob fled to the country of Syria, then Israel served for a wife, and, for a wife, he watched over a flock.
13 et c’est par un prophète que l’Eternel retira Israël de l’Egypte, par un prophète qu’il le protégea.
And, by a prophet, Yahweh, brought up, Israel out of Egypt, —and, by a prophet, was he watched over.
14 Et Ephraïm l’a cruellement offensé! Mais sa faute capitale, il la laissera peser sur lui, et ses outrages, son Souverain les lui fera expier.
Ephraim hath provoked, very bitterly, —his own blood, therefore, upon him, will he leave, and, his reproach, shall his Lord, bring back to him.
