Genèse 8
1 Alors Dieu se souvint de Noé, et de tous les animaux sauvages et domestiques qui étaient avec lui dans l’arche. Dieu fit passer un souffle sur la terre, et les eaux se calmèrent.
God remembered Noah, all the animals, and all the livestock that were with him in the ship; and God made a wind to pass over the earth. The waters subsided.
2 Les sources de l’Abîme et les cataractes célestes se refermèrent, et la pluie ne s’échappa plus du ciel.
The deep’s fountains and the sky’s windows were also stopped, and the rain from the sky was restrained.
3 Les eaux se retirèrent de dessus la terre, se retirèrent par degrés; elles avaient commencé à diminuer au bout de cent cinquante jours.
The waters continually receded from the earth. After the end of one hundred fifty days the waters receded.
4 Le septième mois, le dix-septième jour du mois, l’arche s’arrêta sur les monts Ararat.
The ship rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on Ararat’s mountains.
5 Les eaux allèrent toujours décroissant jusqu’au dixième mois; le premier jour du dixième mois, apparurent les cimes des montagnes.
The waters receded continually until the tenth month. In the tenth month, on the first day of the month, the tops of the mountains were visible.
6 Au bout de quarante jours, Noé ouvrit la fenêtre qu’il avait pratiquée à l’arche.
At the end of forty days, Noah opened the window of the ship which he had made,
7 Il lâcha le corbeau, qui partit, allant et revenant jusqu’à ce que les eaux eussent laissé la terre à sec.
and he sent out a raven. It went back and forth, until the waters were dried up from the earth.
8 Puis, il lâcha la colombe, pour voir si les eaux avaient baissé sur la face du sol.
He himself sent out a dove to see if the waters were abated from the surface of the ground,
9 Mais la colombe ne trouva pas de point d’appui pour la plante de ses pieds, et elle revint vers lui dans l’arche, parce que l’eau couvrait encore la surface de la terre. Il étendit la main, la prit et la fit rentrer auprès de lui dans l’arche.
but the dove found no place to rest her foot, and she returned into the ship to him, for the waters were on the surface of the whole earth. He put out his hand, and took her, and brought her to him into the ship.
10 Il attendit encore sept autres jours, et renvoya de nouveau la colombe de l’arche.
He waited yet another seven days; and again he sent the dove out of the ship.
11 La colombe revint vers lui sur le soir, tenant dans son bec une feuille d’olivier fraîche. Noé jugea que les eaux avaient baissé sur la terre.
The dove came back to him at evening and, behold, in her mouth was a freshly plucked olive leaf. So Noah knew that the waters were abated from the earth.
12 Ayant attendu sept autres jours encore, il fit partir la colombe, qui ne revint plus auprès de lui.
He waited yet another seven days, and sent out the dove; and she didn’t return to him any more.
13 Ce fut dans la six cent unième année, au premier mois, le premier jour du mois, que les eaux laissèrent la terre à sec. Noé écarta le plafond de l’arche et vit que la surface du sol était desséchée.
In the six hundred first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were dried up from the earth. Noah removed the covering of the ship, and looked. He saw that the surface of the ground was dry.
14 Et au deuxième mois, le vingt-septième jour du mois, la terre était sèche.
In the second month, on the twenty-seventh day of the month, the earth was dry.
15 Dieu parla à Noé en ces termes:
God spoke to Noah, saying,
16 Sors de l’arche, toi et ta femme, et tes fils et leurs femmes avec toi.
“Go out of the ship, you, your wife, your sons, and your sons’ wives with you.
17 Tout être vivant de toute espèce qui est avec toi: volatile, quadrupède, reptile se traînant sur la terre, fais-les sortir avec toi; qu’ils foisonnent dans la terre, qu’ils croissent et multiplient sur la terre!"
Bring out with you every living thing that is with you of all flesh, including birds, livestock, and every creeping thing that creeps on the earth, that they may breed abundantly in the earth, and be fruitful, and multiply on the earth.”
18 Noé sortit avec ses fils, sa femme, et les femmes de ses fils.
Noah went out, with his sons, his wife, and his sons’ wives with him.
19 Tous les quadrupèdes, tous les reptiles, tous les oiseaux, tout ce qui se meut sur la terre sortit, selon ses espèces, de l’arche.
Every animal, every creeping thing, and every bird, whatever moves on the earth, after their families, went out of the ship.
20 Noé érigea un autel à l’Éternel; il prit de tous les quadrupèdes purs, de tous les oiseaux purs, et les offrit en holocauste sur l’autel.
Noah built an altar to the LORD, and took of every clean animal, and of every clean bird, and offered burnt offerings on the altar.
21 L’Éternel aspira la délectable odeur, et il dit en lui-même: "Désormais, je ne maudirai plus la terre à cause de l’homme, car les conceptions du cœur de l’homme sont mauvaises dès son enfance; désormais, je ne frapperai plus tous les vivants, comme je l’ai fait.
The LORD smelled the pleasant aroma. The LORD said in his heart, “I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake because the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth. I will never again strike every living thing, as I have done.
22 Plus jamais, tant que durera la terre, semailles et récolte, froidure et chaleur, été et hiver, jour et nuit, ne seront interrompus."
While the earth remains, seed time and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night will not cease.”
