1 Or, quand les hommes eurent commencé à se multiplier sur la terre, et que des filles leur naquirent,
And it came to pass when men had begun to multiply on the face of the ground and daughters had been born to them,
2 les fils de la race divine trouvèrent que les filles de l’homme étaient belles, et ils choisirent pour femmes toutes celles qui leur convinrent.
that the sons of God saw the daughters of men! that they were, fair, —so they took to themselves wives of whomsoever they chose,
3 L’Éternel dit: "Mon esprit n’animera plus les hommes pendant une longue durée, car lui aussi devient chair. Leurs jours seront réduits à cent vingt ans."
And Yahweh said—My spirit shall not rule in man to times age—abiding, for that, he also, is flesh, —Yet his days shall be a hundred and twenty years.
4 Les Nefilim parurent sur la terre à cette époque et aussi depuis, lorsque les hommes de Dieu se mêlaient aux filles de l’homme et qu’elles leur donnaient des enfants. Ce furent ces forts d’autrefois, ces hommes si renommés.
The giants, were in the earth in those days, and also, after that, when the sons of God began to go in unto the daughters of men, and sons were born to them, the same, were the heroes that were from age-past times the men of renown.
5 L’Éternel vit que les méfaits de l’homme se multipliaient sur la terre, et que le produit des pensées de son cœur était uniquement, constamment mauvais;
Then Yahweh saw that great, was the wickedness of man in the earth, and that, every purpose of the devices of his heart, was only wicked all the day;
6 et l’Éternel regretta d’avoir créé l’homme sur la terre, et il s’affligea en lui-même.
and it grieved Yahweh, that he had made man in the earth, —and he took sorrow unto his heart.
7 Et l’Éternel dit: "J’Effacerai l’homme que j’ai créé de dessus la face de la terre; depuis l’homme jusqu’à la brute, jusqu’à l’insecte, jusqu’à l’oiseau du ciel, car je regrette de les avoir faits.
And Yahweh said—I must wipe off man whom I created from off the face of the ground, from man unto beast unto creeping thing, and unto the bird of the heavens, —for I am grieved that I made them.
8 Mais Noé trouva grâce aux yeux de l’Éternel.
But, Noah, had found favour in the eyes, of Yahweh.
9 Ceci est l’histoire de Noé. Noé fut un homme juste, irréprochable, entre ses contemporains; il se conduisit selon Dieu.
These, are the generations of Noah, Noah, was, a righteous man blameless, in his generations, —with God, did Noah walk.
10 Noé engendra trois fils: Sem, Cham et Japhet.
And Noah begat three sons, —Shem, Ham and Japheth.
11 Or, la terre s’était corrompue devant Dieu, et elle s’était remplie d’iniquité.
And the earth corrupted itself before God, —and the earth was filled with violence,
12 Dieu considéra que la terre était corrompue, toute créature ayant perverti sa voie sur la terre.
And God beheld the earth, and lo! it had corrupted itself, —surely all flesh had corrupted its way, on the earth.
13 Et Dieu dit à Noé: "Le terme de toutes les créatures est arrivé à mes yeux, parce que la terre, à cause d’elles, est remplie d’iniquité; et je vais les détruire avec la terre.
So God said unto Noah: the end of all flesh, hath come in before me, for, filled, is the earth with violence, because of them, —behold me, then, destroying them with the earth.
14 Fais-toi une arche de bois de gôfèr; tu distribueras cette arche en cellules, et tu l’enduiras, en dedans et en dehors, de poix.
Make for thee an ark of timbers of gopher, rooms, shalt thou make with the ark, —and thou shalt cover it within and without with pitch.
15 Et voici comment tu la feras: trois cents coudées seront la longueur de l’arche; cinquante coudées sa largeur, et trente coudées sa hauteur.
And, this, is how thou shalt make it, —three hundred cubits, the length of the ark, fifty cubits, the breadth thereof, and thirty cubits the height thereof.
16 Tu donneras du jour à l’arche, que tu réduiras, vers le haut, à la largeur d’une coudée; tu placeras la porte de l’arche sur le côté. Tu la composeras d’une charpente inférieure, d’une seconde et d’une troisième.
A place for light, shalt thou make to the ark and to a cubit, shalt thou finish it upwards, and the opening of the ark—in the side thereof, shalt thou put, —with lower, second and third stories, shalt thou make it.
17 Et moi, je vais amener sur la terre le Déluge—les eaux—pour détruire toute chair animée d’un souffle de vie sous les cieux; tout ce qui habite la terre périra.
And, I, behold me! bringing in the flood—even waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh wherein is the spirit of life, from under the heavens, —everything that is in the earth, shall cease to breathe:
18 J’Établirai mon pacte avec toi: tu entreras dans l’arche, toi et tes fils, et ta femme et les femmes de tes fils avec toi.
therefore will I establish my covenant with thee, —and thou shalt enter into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons’ wives, with thee.
19 Et de tous les êtres vivants, de chaque espèce, tu en recueilleras deux dans l’arche pour les conserver avec toi: ce sera un mâle et une femelle.
Moreover of all the living creatures of all flesh—two of each, shalt thou bring into the ark to keep alive with thee, —male and female, shall they be.
20 Des oiseaux selon leur espèce; des quadrupèdes selon leur espèce; de tout ce qui rampe sur la terre, selon son espèce, qu’un couple vienne auprès de toi pour conserver la vie.
Of the bird after its kind and of the beast after its kind, [and] of every creeping thing of the ground after its kind, two of each, shall come in unto thee. for keeping alive.
21 Munis-toi aussi de toutes provisions comestibles, et mets-les en réserve: pour toi et pour eux, cela servira de nourriture.
But thou, take to thee of all food that is eaten, and gather it unto thee, —and it shall be for thee and for them for food.
22 Noé obéit, tout ce que Dieu lui avait prescrit, il l’exécuta ponctuellement.
And Noah did [so], —according to all that God commanded him, so did he.
