Genèse 50
1 Joseph se précipita sur le visage de son père et le couvrit de pleurs et de baisers.
Which thing Joseph seiy, and felde on `the face of the fader, and wepte, and kiste hym;
2 Joseph ordonna aux médecins, ses serviteurs, d’embaumer son père; et les médecins embaumèrent Israël.
and he comaundide hise seruauntis, lechis, that thei schulden anoynte the fadir with swete smellynge spiceries.
3 On y employa quarante jours; car on emploie autant de jours pour ceux qu’on embaume. Les Égyptiens portèrent son deuil soixante-dix jours.
While thei `filliden the comaundementis, fourti daies passiden, for this was the custom of deed bodies anoyntid; and Egipt biwepte hym seuenti daies.
4 Les jours de son deuil écoulés, Joseph parla ainsi aux gens de Pharaon: "De grâce, si j’ai trouvé faveur à vos yeux, veuillez porter aux oreilles de Pharaon ces paroles:
And whanne the tyme of weiling was fillid, Joseph spak to the meyne of Farao, If Y haue founde grace in youre siyt, speke ye in the eeris of Farao; for my fadir chargide me,
5 Mon père m’a adjuré en ces termes: ‘Voici, je vais mourir; dans mon sépulcre, que j’ai acquis dans le pays de Canaan, là même tu m’enseveliras.’ Et maintenant, je voudrais partir, j’ensevelirai mon père et je reviendrai."
and seide, Lo! Y die, thou schalt birie me in my sepulcre which Y diggide to me in the lond of Canaan; therfor Y schal stie that Y birie my fadir, and Y schal turne ayen.
6 Pharaon répondit: "Pars et ensevelis ton père ainsi qu’il t’a adjuré."
And Farao seide to hym, Stie, and birie thi fader, as thou art chargid.
7 Joseph partit pour ensevelir son père. II fut accompagné par tous les officiers de Pharaon qui avaient vieilli à sa cour, par tous les anciens du pays d’Égypte,
And whanne `he stiede, alle the elde men of `the hous of Farao yeden with him, and alle the grettere men in birthe of the lond of Egipt; the hous of Joseph with her britheren,
8 par toute la maison de Joseph, par ses frères et par la maison de son père. Leurs enfants seuls, avec leur menu et leur gros bétail, restèrent dans la province de Gessen.
without litle children, and flockis, and grete beestis, whiche thei leften in the lond of Gessen, yeden with him.
9 Il y eut à sa suite et des chars et des cavaliers; le convoi fut très considérable.
And he hadde charis, and horsmen, and felouschip, and cumpany was maad not litil.
10 Parvenus jusqu’à l’Aire-du-Buisson, située au bord du Jourdain, ils y célébrèrent de grandes et solennelles funérailles et Joseph ordonna en l’honneur de son père un deuil de sept jours.
And thei camen to the cornfloor of Adad, which is set ouer Jordan, where thei maden the seruice of the deed bodi, with greet weilyng and strong, and fillide seuen daies.
11 L’Habitant du pays, le Cananéen, vit ce deuil de l’Aire-du-Buisson et ils dirent: "Voilà un grand deuil pour l’Égypte!" C’Est pourquoi on nomma Abêl-Miçrayim ce lieu situé de l’autre coté du Jourdain.
And whanne the dwellers of the lond of Canaan hadden seyn this, thei seiden, This is a greet weiling to Egipcians; and therfor thei clepiden the name of that place the weilyng of Egipt.
12 Ses fils agirent à son égard, ponctuellement comme il leur avait enjoint:
Therfor the sones of Jacob diden, as he hadde comaundid to hem;
13 ils le transportèrent au pays de Canaan et l’inhumèrent dans le caveau du champ de Makhpêla, ce champ qu’Abraham avait acheté comme possession tumulaire à Éfrôn le Héthéen, en face de Mambré.
and thei baren hym in to the lond of Canaan, and thei birieden hym in the double denne, which denne with the feeld Abraham hadde bouyt of Effron Ethei, ayens the face of Mambre, into possessioun of sepulcre.
14 Joseph, après avoir enseveli son père, retourna en Égypte avec ses frères et tous ceux qui l’avaient accompagné pour ensevelir son père.
And Joseph turnede ayen in to Egipt with hise britheren and al the felouschipe, whanne the fadir was biried.
15 Or, les frères de Joseph, considérant que leur père était mort, se dirent: "Si Joseph nous prenait en haine! S’Il allait nous rendre tout le mal que nous lui avons fait souffrir!"
And whanne the fadir was deed, the britheren of Joseph dredden, and spaken togidere, lest perauenture he be myndeful of the wrong which he suffride, and yelde to vs al the yuel, that we diden.
16 Ils mandèrent à Joseph ce qui suit: "Ton père a commandé avant sa mort, en ces termes:
And thei senten to hym, and seiden, Thi fadir comaundide to vs,
17 ‘Parlez ainsi à Joseph: Oh! Pardonne, de grâce, l’offense de tes frères et leur faute et le mal qu’ils t’ont fait!’ Maintenant donc, pardonne leur tort aux serviteurs du Dieu de ton père!" Joseph pleura lorsqu’on lui parla ainsi.
bifore that he diede, that we schulden seie to thee these thingis bi hise wordis; Y beseche, that thou foryete the wickidnesse of thi britheren, and the synne, and malice which thei hauntiden ayens thee; also we preien, that thou foryyue this wickidnesse to thi fadir, the seruaunt of God. Whanne these thingis weren herd, Joseph wepte.
18 Puis, ses frères vinrent eux-mêmes tomber à ses pieds, en disant: "Nous sommes prêts à devenir tes esclaves.
And hise britheren camen to hym, and worschipiden lowe to erthe, and seiden, We ben thi seruauntis.
19 Joseph leur répondit: Soyez sans crainte; car suis-je à la place de Dieu?
To whiche he answeride, Nyle ye drede; whether we moun ayenstonde Goddis wille?
20 Vous, vous aviez médité contre moi le mal: Dieu l’a combiné pour le bien, afin qu’il arrivât ce qui arrive aujourd’hui, qu’un peuple nombreux fût sauvé.
Ye thouyten yuel of me, and God turnede it in to good, that he schulde enhaunse me, as ye seen in present tyme, and that he schulde make saaf many puplis;
21 Donc, soyez sans crainte: j’aurai soin de vous et de vos familles." Et il les rassura et il parla à leur cœur.
nyle ye drede, Y schal fede you and youre litle children. And he coumfortide hem, and spak swetli, and liytly;
22 Joseph demeura en Égypte, lui et la famille de son père et il vécut cent dix ans.
and he dwellide in Egipt, with al the hows of his fadir. And he lyuyde an hundrid yeer,
23 Il vit naître à Éphraïm des enfants de la troisième génération; de même les enfants de Makir, fils de Manassé, naquirent sur les genoux de Joseph.
and he seiy the sones of Effraym til to the thridde generacioun; also the sones of Machir, son of Manasses, weren borun in the knees of Joseph.
24 Joseph dit à ses frères: "Je vais mourir. Sachez que le Seigneur vous visitera et vous ramènera de ce pays dans celui qu’il a promis par serment à Abraham, à Isaac et à Jacob."
Whanne these thingis weren don, Joseph spak to hise brithren, Aftir my deeth God schal visite you, and he schal make to stie fro this lond to the loond which he swoor to Abraham, Ysaac, and Jacob.
25 Et Joseph adjura les enfants d’Israël en disant: "Oui, le Seigneur vous visitera et alors vous emporterez mes ossements de ce pays."
And whanne he hadde chargid hem, and hadde seid, God schal visite you, bere ye out with you my boonus fro this place,
26 Joseph mourut âgé de cent dix ans; on l’embauma et il fut déposé dans un cercueil en Égypte.
he diede, whanne an hundrid and ten yeeris of his lijf weren fillid; and he was anoyntid with swete smellynge spiceries, and was kept in a beere in Egipt.
