Genèse 49
1 Jacob fit venir ses fils et il dit: "Rassemblez-vous, je veux vous révéler ce qui vous arrivera dans la suite des jours.
And Jacob calleth unto his sons and saith, 'Be gathered together, and I declare to you that which doth happen with you in the latter end of the days.
2 Pressez-vous pour écouter, enfants de Jacob, pour écouter Israël votre Père.
'Be assembled, and hear, sons of Jacob, And hearken unto Israel your father.
3 Ruben! Tu fus mon premier-né, mon orgueil et les prémices de ma vigueur: le premier en dignité, le premier en puissance.
Reuben! my first-born thou, My power, and beginning of my strength, The abundance of exaltation, And the abundance of strength;
4 Impétueux comme l’onde, tu as perdu ta noblesse! Car tu as attenté au lit paternel, tu as flétri l’honneur de ma couche.
Unstable as water, thou art not abundant; For thou hast gone up thy father's bed; Then thou hast polluted: My couch he went up!
5 Siméon et Lévi! Digne couple de frères; leurs armes sont des instruments de violence.
Simeon and Levi [are] brethren! Instruments of violence — their espousals!
6 Ne t’associe point à leurs desseins, ô mon âme! Mon honneur, ne sois pas complice de leur alliance! Car, dans leur colère, ils ont immolé des hommes et pour leur passion ils ont frappé des taureaux.
Into their secret, come not, O my soul! Unto their assembly be not united, O mine honour; For in their anger they slew a man, And in their self-will eradicated a prince.
7 Maudite soit leur colère, car elle fut malfaisante et leur indignation, car elle a été funeste! Je veux les séparer dans Jacob, les disperser en Israël.
Cursed [is] their anger, for [it is] fierce, And their wrath, for [it is] sharp; I divide them in Jacob, And I scatter them in Israel.
8 Pour toi, Juda, tes frères te rendront hommage; ta main fera ployer le cou de tes ennemis; les enfants de ton père s’inclineront devant toi!
Judah! thou — thy brethren praise thee! Thy hand [is] on the neck of thine enemies, Sons of thy father bow themselves to thee.
9 Tu es un jeune lion, Juda, quand tu reviens, ô mon fils, avec ta capture! II se couche; c’est le repos du lion et du léopard; qui oserait le réveiller?
A lion's whelp [is] Judah, For prey, my son, thou hast gone up; He hath bent, he hath crouched as a lion, And as a lioness; who causeth him to arise?
10 Le sceptre n’échappera point à Juda, ni l’autorité à sa descendance, jusqu’à l’avènement du Pacifique auquel obéiront les peuples.
The sceptre turneth not aside from Judah, And a lawgiver from between his feet, Till his Seed come; And his [is] the obedience of peoples.
11 Alors on attachera son ânon à la vigne, et à la treille le fils de son ânesse: on lavera son vêtement dans le vin, et dans le sang des raisins sa tunique;
Binding to the vine his ass, And to the choice vine the colt of his ass, He hath washed in wine his clothing, And in the blood of grapes his covering;
12 les yeux seront pétillants de vin et les dents toutes blanches de lait.
Red [are] eyes with wine, And white [are] teeth with milk!
13 Zabulon occupera le littoral des mers; il offrira des ports aux vaisseaux et sa plage atteindra Sidon.
Zebulun at a haven of the seas doth dwell, And he [is] for a haven of ships; And his side [is] unto Zidon.
14 Issachar est un âne musculeux qui se couche entre les collines.
Issacher [is] a strong ass, Crouching between the two folds;
15 II a goûté le charme du repos et les délices du pâturage; et iI a livré son épaule au joug et iI est devenu tributaire.
And he seeth rest that [it is] good, And the land that [it is] pleasant, And he inclineth his shoulder to bear, And is to tribute a servant.
16 Dan sera l’arbitre de son peuple, sous lui se grouperont les tribus d’Israël.
Dan doth judge his people, As one of the tribes of Israel;
17 II sera, Dan, un serpent sur le chemin, un aspic dans le sentier: il pique le pied du cheval et le cavalier tombe renversé.
Dan is a serpent by the way, An adder by the path, Which is biting the horse's heels, And its rider falleth backward.
18 J’Espère en ton assistance, Seigneur.
For Thy salvation I have waited, Jehovah!
19 Gad sera assailli d’ennemis, mais il les assaillira à son tour.
Gad! a troop assaulteth him, But he assaulteth last.
20 Pour Asher, sa production sera abondante; c’est lui qui pourvoira aux jouissances des rois.
Out of Asher his bread [is] fat; And he giveth dainties of a king.
21 Nephtali est une biche qui s’élance; il apporte d’heureux messages.
Naphtali [is] a hind sent away, Who is giving beauteous young ones.
22 C’Est un rameau fertile que Joseph, un rameau fertile au bord d’une fontaine; il dépasse les autres rameaux le long de la muraille.
Joseph [is] a fruitful son; A fruitful son by a fountain, Daughters step over the wall;
23 Ils l’ont exaspéré et frappé de leurs flèches; ils l’ont pris en haine, les fiers archers:
And embitter him — yea, they have striven, Yea, hate him do archers;
24 mais son arc est resté plein de vigueur et les muscles de ses bras sont demeurés fermes grâce au Protecteur de Jacob, qui par là préparait la vie au rocher d’Israël;
And his bow abideth in strength, And strengthened are the arms of his hands By the hands of the Mighty One of Jacob, Whence is a shepherd, a son of Israel.
25 grâce au Dieu de ton père, qui sera ton appui et au Tout-Puissant, qui te bénira des bénédictions supérieures du ciel, des bénédictions souterraines de l’abîme, des bénédictions des mamelles et des entrailles! Les vœux de ton père,
By the God of thy father who helpeth thee, And the Mighty One who blesseth thee, Blessings of the heavens from above, Blessings of the deep lying under, Blessings of breasts and womb; —
26 surpassant ceux de mes ancêtres, atteignent la limite des montagnes éternelles; ils s’accompliront sur la tête de Joseph, sur le front de l’Élu de ses frères!
Thy father's blessings have been mighty Above the blessings of my progenitors, Unto the limit of the heights age-during They are for the head of Joseph, And for the crown of the one Separate [from] his brethren.
27 Benjamin est un loup ravisseur: le matin il s’assouvit de carnage, le soir il partagera le butin."
Benjamin! a wolf teareth; In the morning he eateth prey, And at evening he apportioneth spoil.'
28 Tous ceux-là sont les douze tribus d’Israël; et c’est ainsi que leur père leur parla et les bénit, dispensant à chacun sa bénédiction propre.
All these [are] the twelve tribes of Israel, and this [is] that which their father hath spoken unto them, and he blesseth them; each according to his blessing he hath blessed them.
29 Et il leur donna ses ordres en disant: "Je vais être réuni à mon peuple; ensevelissez-moi auprès de mes pères dans le caveau qui fait partie du domaine d’Éfrôn le Héthéen;
And he commandeth them, and saith unto them, 'I am being gathered unto my people; bury me by my fathers, at the cave which [is] in the field of Ephron the Hittite;
30 dans ce caveau qui appartient au territoire de Makhpêla, en face de Mamré, dans le pays de Canaan, territoire qu’Abraham acheta d’Éfrôn le Héthéen, comme sépulture héréditaire.
in the cave which [is] in the field of Machpelah, which [is] on the front of Mamre, in the land of Canaan, which Abraham bought with the field from Ephron the Hittite for a possession of a burying-place;
31 Là furent enterrés Abraham et Sara son épouse; là furent enterrés Isaac et Rébecca son épouse et là j’ai enterré Léa.
(there they buried Abraham and Sarah his wife; there they buried Isaac and Rebekah his wife; and there I buried Leah);
32 L’Acquisition de ce territoire et du caveau qui s’y trouve a été faite chez les Héthéens."
the purchase of the field and of the cave which [is] in it, [is] from Sons of Heth.'
33 Jacob, ayant dicté à ses fils ses volontés dernières, ramena ses pieds dans sa couche; il expira et rejoignit ses pères.
And Jacob finisheth commanding his sons, and gathereth up his feet unto the bed, and expireth, and is gathered unto his people.
