Esdras 8
1 Voici, d’après leur filiation, les chefs des familles qui, sous le règne du roi Artahchasta, partirent avec moi de Babylone:
And so these are the leaders of the families, with their genealogy, of those who ascended with me from Babylon, during the reign of king Artaxerxes.
2 parmi les enfants de Phinéas, Gersom; parmi les enfants d’lthamar, Daniel; parmi les enfants de David, Hattouch,
From the sons of Phinehas, Gershom. From the sons of Ithamar, Daniel. From the sons of David, Hattush.
3 un des descendants de Chekhania; parmi les enfants de Paroch, Zacharie, et à lui se rattachaient, par leur filiation, cent cinquante mâles;
From the sons of Shecaniah, the son of Parosh, Zechariah, and one hundred fifty men were numbered with him.
4 parmi les enfants de Pahat-Moab, Elyehoènaï, fils de Zerahia, et avec lui deux cents mâles;
From the sons of Pahath-moab, Eliehoenai, the son of Zerahiah, and two hundred men were with him.
5 parmi les enfants de Chekhania, était le fils de Yahaziël, et avec lui trois cents mâles;
From the sons of Shecaniah, the son of Jahaziel, and three hundred men were with him.
6 parmi les enfants d’Adïn, Ebed, fils de Jonathan, et avec lui cinquante mâles;
From the sons of Adin, Ebed, the son of Jonathan, and fifty men were with him.
7 parmi les enfants d’Elam, Isaïe, fils d’Atalia, et avec lui soixante-dix mâles;
From the sons of Elam, Jeshaiah, the son of Athaliah, and seventy men were with him.
8 parmi les enfants de Chefatia; Zebadia, fils de Mikhaël, et avec lui quatre-vingts mâles;
From the sons of Shephatiah, Zebadiah, the son of Michael, and eighty men were with him.
9 parmi les enfants de Joab, Obadia, fils de Yehiël, et avec lui deux cent dix-huit mâles;
From the sons of Joab, Obadiah, the son of Jehiel, and two hundred eighteen men were with him.
10 parmi les enfants de Chelomit était le fils de Yosifia, et avec lui cent soixante mâles;
From the sons of Shelomith, the son of Josiphiah, and one hundred sixty men were with him.
11 parmi les enfants de Bêbai, Zacharie, fils de Bêbaï, et avec lui vingt-huit mâles;
From the sons of Bebai, Zechariah, the son of Bebai, and twenty-eight men were with him.
12 parmi les enfants d’Azgad, Johanan, fils de Hakatân, et avec lui cent dix mâles;
From the sons of Azgad, Johanan, the son of Hakkatan, and one hundred and ten men were with him.
13 parmi les enfants d’Adonikâm, les derniers venus, dont voici les noms: Elifélet, Yeiêl et Chemaïa, et avec eux soixante mâles;
From the sons of Adonikam, who were the last, and these were their names: Eliphelet, and Jeuel, and Shemaiah, and sixty men were with them.
14 et parmi les enfants de Bigvaï, Outaï et Zabboud, et avec eux soixante-dix mâles.
From the sons of Bigvai, Uthai and Zaccur, and seventy men were with them.
15 Je les rassemblai près du fleuve qui se dirige vers Ahava, où nous campâmes trois jours. Je passai en revue le peuple et les prêtres et n’y trouvai point de Lévites.
Now I gathered them together at the river that runs down to Ahava, and we stayed there for three days. And I sought among the people and among the priests for the sons of Levi, and I found none there.
16 Je dépêchai donc Eliézer, Ariël, Chemaïa, Elnatân, Yarib, Elnatân, Natân, Zacharie, Mechoullâm, tous chefs, et Yoyarib et Elnatân, instructeurs,
And so I sent Eliezer, and Ariel, and Shemaiah, and Elnathan, and Jarib, and another Elnathan, and Nathan, and Zechariah, and Meshullam, who were leaders, and Joiarib and Elnathan, who were wise.
17 et je leur fis des recommandations pour Iddo, chef dans la localité de Kassifia; je leur dictai les paroles qu’ils devaient dire à Iddo, à l’adresse de ses frères, les serviteurs du temple fixés à Kassifia, afin qu’on nous amenât des fonctionnaires pour le temple de notre Dieu.
And I sent them to Iddo, who is first within the place of Casiphia. And I placed in their mouth the words that they should speak to Iddo and his brothers, the temple servants, in the place of Casiphia, so that they would lead to us ministers for the house of our God.
18 Ils nous amenèrent, grâce à la protection de Dieu étendue sur nous, un homme intelligent, choisi parmi les descendants de Mahli, fils de Lévi, fils d’Israël, ainsi que Chèrèbia, ses fils et ses frères, au nombre de dix-huit personnes;
And because the good hand of our God was over us, they led to us a very learned man from the sons of Mahli, the son of Levi, the son of Israel, with Sherebiah, and his sons, and his eighteen brothers,
19 de plus, Hachabia, et avec lui Isaïe, un des descendants de Merari, avec ses frères et leurs fils, au nombre de vingt personnes.
and Hashabiah, and with him Jeshaiah, of the sons of Merari, and his brothers, and his sons, numbering twenty.
20 Enfin, d’entre les serviteurs du temple que David et les princes avaient affectés au service des Lévites, deux cent vingt individus, tous nominativement désignés.
And from the temple servants, whom David, and the leaders had provided for the ministry of the Levites, there were two hundred twenty temple servants. All these were called by their names.
21 Je proclamai là, près du fleuve d’Ahava, un jeûne à l’effet de nous mortifier devant notre Dieu et de lui demander un voyage heureux pour nous, pour nos familles et tous nos biens;
And I proclaimed a fast in that place, beside the river Ahava, so that we might afflict ourselves in the sight of the Lord our God, and so that we might request of him the right way for us, and for our sons, and for all our substance.
22 car j’avais honte de solliciter du roi des troupes et des cavaliers pour nous secourir contre les ennemis pendant le trajet; nous avions dit, en effet, au roi: "La main de notre Dieu protège, pour leur bonheur, tous ceux qui le recherchent, tandis que sa force et sa colère pèsent sur ceux qui le délaissent."
For I was ashamed to petition the king for assistance and for horsemen, who would defend us from the enemy along the way. For we had said to the king: “The hand of our God is over all those who seek him in goodness. And his authority, and his strength and fury, is over all those who forsake him.”
23 Nous jeunâmes donc et implorâmes de notre Dieu cette faveur, et il accueillit notre prière.
And so we fasted and begged our God for this; and as a result, we prospered.
24 Puis, je choisis parmi les chefs des prêtres une douzaine, dont Chèrèbia, Hachabia, avec dix de leurs frères;
And I separated twelve from among the leaders of the priests: Sherebiah, and Hashabiah, and with them ten of their brothers.
25 et je leur versai l’argent, l’or et les ustensiles, offrandes pour le temple de notre Dieu, qu’avaient prélevées le roi, ses conseillers, ses seigneurs, et tous les Israélites existants.
And I weighed out to them the silver and the gold, and the vessels consecrated to the house of our God, which had been offered by the king, and by his counselors and his leaders, and by all those of Israel who had been found.
26 Je leur versai aussi six cent cinquante talents d’argent, en fait d’ustensiles en argent cent talents, cent talents d’or,
And I weighed out to their hands six hundred fifty talents of silver, and one hundred vessels of silver, and one hundred talents of gold,
27 vingt écuelles en or valant mille dariques et deux magnifiques vases de cuivre jaune, précieux comme l’or.
and twenty gold bowls which had the weight of one thousand coins, and two vessels of the finest shining brass, as beautiful as gold.
28 Je leur dis: "Vous êtes vous-mêmes consacrés à l’Eternel, et ces ustensiles sont consacrés; l’argent et l’or sont des dons volontaires offerts à l’Eternel, Dieu de vos pères.
And I said to them: “You are the holy ones of the Lord, and the vessels are holy, with the silver and the gold, which has been offered freely to the Lord, the God of our fathers.
29 Conservez-les avec soin jusqu’au moment où vous les verserez, en présence des chefs des prêtres, des Lévites et des chefs de famille d’Israël, à Jérusalem, dans les salles du temple de l’Eternel.
Watch and guard them, until you weigh them out before the leaders of the priests and the Levites, and the rulers of the families of Israel in Jerusalem, into the treasury of the house of the Lord.”
30 Les prêtres et les Lévites prirent en charge cette quantité d’argent, d’or et d’ustensiles, pour les transporter à Jérusalem, dans le temple de notre Dieu.
Then the priests and the Levites received the weight of the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, so that they might carry these to Jerusalem, into the house of our God.
31 Nous partîmes du fleuve d’Ahava le douzième jour du premier mois pour nous diriger vers Jérusalem; la protection de notre Dieu nous couvrit et nous préserva de la main des ennemis et des dresseurs d’embûches, au cours de notre voyage.
Therefore, we set out from the river Ahava, on the twelfth day of the first month, so that we might travel to Jerusalem. And the hand of our God was over us, and he freed us from the hand of the enemy and of those who lay in ambush along the way.
32 Nous arrivâmes à Jérusalem et y prîmes trois jours de repos.
And we arrived at Jerusalem, and we stayed there for three days.
33 Le quatrième jour, l’argent, l’or et les ustensiles furent versés dans le temple de notre Dieu, entre les mains de Merêmot, fils du prêtre Urie, assisté d’Eléazar, fils de Phinéas; avec eux se trouvaient Yozabad, fils de Yêchoua, et Noadia, fils de Binnoui, les Lévites.
Then, on the fourth day, the silver and the gold and the vessels were weighed out in the house of our God, by the hand of Meremoth, the son of Uriah, the priest; and with him was Eleazar, the son of Phinehas, and with them were the Levites, Jozabad, the son of Jeshua, and Noadiah, the son of Binnui.
34 Le tout fut compté et pesé, et à ce moment on en dressa un état exact.
This was done according to the number and weight of everything; and every weight was written down at that time.
35 Ceux qui étaient revenus de la captivité, les anciens exilés, offrirent comme holocaustes au Dieu d’Israël douze taureaux à l’intention de tout Israël, quatre-vingt-seize béliers, soixante-dix-sept brebis, et douze boucs comme sacrifice expiatoire: le tout présenté en holocauste à l’Eternel.
Moreover, those who came from the captivity, the sons of the transmigration, offered holocausts to the God of Israel: twelve calves on behalf of all the people of Israel, ninety-six rams, seventy-seven lambs, and twelve he-goats for sin. All these were a holocaust to the Lord.
36 Ils remirent aussi les instructions royales aux satrapes du roi et aux préfets de ce côté du fleuve; et ceux-ci prêtèrent leur concours au peuple et au temple de Dieu.
Then they gave the edicts of the king to the rulers who served in the sight of the king, and to the governors beyond the river, and they exalted the people and the house of God.
