Esdras 6

1 Alors le roi Darius donna l’ordre de faire des recherches dans le dépôt des livres où l’on mettait les archives, là-bas, en Babylonie,

Then King Darius gaue commandement, and they made search in the librarie of the treasures, which were there layd vp in Babel.

2 et l’on trouva à Ahmeta, capitale de la province de Médie, un rouleau qui portait la mention suivante:

And there was founde in a coffer (in the palace that was in the prouince of the Medes) a volume, and therein was it thus written, as a memoriall,

3 "Dans la première année du roi Cyrus, le roi Cyrus rendit ce décret: Le temple de Dieu à Jérusalem, l’édifice où l’on immole des sacrifices, sera reconstruit, et ses fondements solidement établis; il aura soixante coudées de haut, soixante coudées de large.

IN THE FIRST yeere of King Cyrus, King Cyrus made a decree for the house of God in Ierusalem, Let the house be buylt, euen the place where they offred sacrifices, and let the walles thereof be ioyned together: let the height thereof be three score cubites, and the breadth thereof three score cubites,

4 Il y aura trois assises de pierres de taille et une assise de bois. La dépense sera couverte par la maison du roi.

Three orders of great stones, and one order of timber, and let the expenses be giuen of the Kings house.

5 En outre, les ustensiles du temple de Dieu, en or et en argent, que Nabuchodonosor a enlevés du sanctuaire de Jérusalem et transportés à Babylone, qu’ils soient restitués pour être remis à leur place dans le sanctuaire de Jérusalem et déposés dans la maison de Dieu."

And also let them render the vessels of the house of God (of golde and siluer, which Nebuchadnezzar tooke out of the Temple, which was in Ierusalem, and brought vnto Babel) and let him goe vnto the Temple that is in Ierusalem to his place, and put them in the house of God.

6 "Donc, mandait le roi, vous, Tattenaï, gouverneur des pays de l’autre côté du fleuve, Chetar Bozenaï et consorts, originaires d’Afarsak, résidant de l’autre côté du fleuve, tenez-vous à l’écart.

Therefore Tatnai captaine beyond the Riuer, and Shethar Boznai, (and their companions Apharsecaie, which are beyonde the Riuer) be ye farre from thence.

7 Laissez se poursuivre les travaux de ce temple; que le gouverneur des Judéens et les anciens parmi eux rebâtissent ce temple sur son emplacement.

Suffer ye the worke of this house of God, that the captaine of the Iewes and the Elders of the Iewes may buylde this house of God in his place.

8 J’Ordonne, en outre, que vous preniez des dispositions à l’égard de ces anciens parmi les Judéens, en vue de la reconstruction de ce temple: sur les recettes royales provenant du tribut des pays de l’autre côté du fleuve, il doit être pourvu aux dépenses de ces hommes, ponctuellement et sans aucun retard.

For I haue giuen a commandement what ye shall doe to the Elders of these Iewes, for the buylding of this house of God, that of the reuenues of the King, which is of the tribute beyonde the Riuer, there be incontinently expenses giuen vnto these men that they cease not.

9 Et ce qui est nécessaire tant en taureaux, béliers, agneaux pour les holocaustes au Dieu du ciel qu’en froment, sel, vin et huile, que tout soit fourni jour par jour aux prêtres de Jérusalem, suivant leurs indications et sans faute,

And that which they shall haue neede of, let it be giuen vnto them day by day, whether it be yong bullockes, or rammes, or lambes for the burnt offrings of the God of heauen, wheate, salt, wine, and oyle, according to the appoyntment of the Priestes that are in Ierusalem, that there bee no fault,

10 afin qu’ils offrent des sacrifices agréables au Dieu du ciel et prient pour la vie du roi et de ses fils.

That they may haue to offer sweete odours vnto the God of heauen, and praye for the Kings life, and for his sonnes.

11 Je décrète encore que, s’il est quelqu’un qui ose transgresser cet ordre, une poutre soit détachée de sa maison pour l’y pendre haut et court, et que sa maison soit changée en cloaque.

And I haue made a decree, that whosoeuer shall alter this sentence, the wood shall be pulled downe from his house, and shall be set vp, and he shalbe hanged thereon, and his house shalbe made a dunghill for this.

12 Que le Dieu qui a choisi ce lieu comme résidence de son nom renverse tout roi et tout peuple qui se permettra de modifier ces instructions au détriment de ce temple de Dieu, à Jérusalem. Moi, Darius, je rends cette ordonnance, qui doit s’exécuter sans retard."

And the God that hath caused his Name to dwell there, destroy all Kings and people that put to their hand to alter, and to destroy this house of God, which is in Ierusalem. I Darius haue made a decree, let it be done with speede.

13 Aussitôt Tattenaï, gouverneur des pays de l’autre côté du fleuve, Chetar Bozenaï et consorts se conformèrent avec diligence aux instructions envoyées par le roi Darius.

Then Tatnai the captaine beyond the Riuer, and Shethar Boznai and their companions, according to that which Darius had sent, so they did speedily.

14 Les anciens parmi les Judéens continuèrent avec succès les travaux de construction, encouragés par les prédications du prophète Haggaï et de Zacharie, fils d’Iddo. Ils bâtirent jusqu’à complet achèvement, par la volonté du Dieu d’Israël et celle de Cyrus, de Darius et d’Artahchasta, roi de Perse.

So the Elders of the Iewes builded, and they prospered by the prophecying of Haggai the Prophet, and Zechariah the sonne of Iddo, and they buylded and finished it, by the appoyntment of the God of Israel, and by the commandement of Cyrus and Darius, and Artahshashte king of Persia.

15 Le temple fut terminé le troisième jour du mois d’Adar, dans la sixième année du règne du roi Darius.

And this house was finished the thirde day of the moneth Adar, which was the sixt yeere of the reigne of King Darius.

16 Et les enfants d’Israël, les prêtres, les Lévites, et tous ceux qui étaient revenus de l’exil procédèrent avec allégresse à l’inauguration du temple de Dieu.

And the children of Israel, the Priestes, and the Leuites, and the residue of the children of the captiuitie kept the dedication of this house of God with ioy,

17 Ils offrirent, pour cette inauguration du temple de Dieu, cent taureaux, deux cents béliers, quatre cents agneaux et douze boucs comme sacrifices expiatoires pour tout Israël, selon le nombre des tribus d’Israël.

And offred at the dedication of this house of God an hundreth bullockes, two hundreth rams, foure hundreth lambes, and twelue goates, for the sinne of all Israel, according to the nomber of the tribes of Israel.

18 On préposa au service de Dieu à Jérusalem les prêtres d’après leurs divisions, et les Lévites d’après leur classement, conformément aux prescriptions du livre de Moïse.

And they set the Priests in their order, and the Leuites in their courses ouer the seruice of God in Ierusalem, as it is written in the booke of Moses.

19 Les anciens exilés célébrèrent la Pâque le quatorzième jour du premier mois;

And the childre of the captiuitie kept the Passeouer on ye fourtenth day of the first moneth.

20 car les prêtres et les Lévites s’étaient purifiés simultanément, ils étaient tous purs. Ils immolèrent donc le sacrifice pascal pour tous les anciens exilés ainsi que pour leurs frères, les prêtres, et pour eux-mêmes.

(For the Priests and the Leuites were purified altogether) and they killed the Passeouer for all the children of the captiuitie, and for their brethren the Priests, and for themselues.

21 Les enfants d’Israël revenus de l’exil en mangèrent; de même tous ceux qui s’étaient détachés des souillures des autres populations du pays et ralliés à eux, pour rechercher l’Eternel, Dieu d’Israël.

So the children of Israel which were come againe out of captiuitie, and all such as had separated themselues vnto them, from the filthines of the Heathen of the land, to seeke the Lord God of Israel, did eate,

22 Ils célébrèrent joyeusement la fête des azymes durant sept jours, car l’Eternel leur avait donné de la joie en disposant, en leur faveur, le cœur du roi d’Assyrie, de façon à les seconder dans les travaux du temple de Dieu, du Dieu d’Israël.

And they kept ye feast of vnleauened bread seuen dayes with ioy: for the Lord had made them glad, and turned the heart of the King of Asshur vnto them, to incourage them in the worke of the house of God, euen the God of Israel.
