Ézéchiel 31

1 II advint, dans la onzième année, le premier jour du troisième mois, que la parole de l’Eternel me fut adressée en ces termes:

And it was don in the enleuenthe yeer, in the thridde moneth, in the firste dai of the monethe, the word of the Lord was maad to me,

2 "Fils de l’homme, dis à Pharaon, roi d’Egypte, et à sa cohue: A qui es-tu comparable dans ta grandeur?

and he seide, Thou, sone of man, seie to Farao, kyng of Egipt, and to his puple, To whom art thou maad lijk in thi greetnesse?

3 Voici, il était sur le Liban un cèdre superbe, aux belles branches, à la frondaison ombreuse, haut de stature; sa cime perçait les nuages.

Lo! Assur as a cedre in Liban, fair in braunchis, and ful of boowis, and hiy bi hiynesse; and his heiyte was reisid among thicke bowis.

4 Les eaux l’avaient fait croître, la source profonde l’avait développé, en faisant courir ses flots autour de sa plantation et en dirigeant ses canaux vers tous les arbres de la campagne.

Watris nurschiden hym, the depthe of watris enhaunside him; hise floodis fletiden out in the cumpas of hise rootis, and he sente out hise strondis to alle the trees of the cuntrei.

5 Aussi, sa taille surpassait celle de tous les arbres de la campagne, ses branches s’étaient multipliées et ses rameaux, grâce à l’abondance des eaux, s’étaient allongés, car il les projetait au loin.

Therfor his hiynesse was enhaunsid ouer alle trees of the cuntrei, and hise trees weren multiplied, and hise braunchis weren reisid, for many watris.

6 Dans ses branches nichaient tous les oiseaux du ciel, et sous ses rameaux mettaient bas' toutes les bêtes des champs. A son ombre demeuraient toutes les grandes nations.

And whanne he hadde stretchid forth his schadewe, alle the volatils of the eir maden nestis in hise braunchis; and alle the beestis of forestis gendriden vndur hise boowis, and the cumpeny of ful many folkis dwellide vndur the schadewynge place of hym.

7 Il était beau dans sa grandeur, par la longueur de ses rameaux, car sa racine baignait dans de grandes eaux.

And he was ful fair in his greetnesse, and in alargyng of hise trees; for the roote of hym was bisidis many watris.

8 Les cèdres ne l’avaient pas éclipsé au jardin de Dieu, les cyprès n’étaient pas comparables à ses branches, et les platanes ne rivalisaient pas avec ses rameaux: aucun arbre du jardin de Dieu ne l’égalait en beauté.

Cedris in the paradijs of God weren not hiyere than he; fir trees atteyneden not euenli to the hiynesse of hym, and plane trees weren not euene with the boowis of hym. Ech tree of paradijs of God was not maad lic hym and his fairnesse.

9 Je l’avais fait beau par la multitude de ses branches, et tous les arbres d’Eden, qui étaient au jardin de Dieu, le jalousaient.

For Y made hym fair, and with many and thicke boowis; and alle the trees of lust, that weren in the paradijs of God, hadden enuye to hym.

10 Donc, ainsi parle le Seigneur Dieu, puisque tu avais tant monté en hauteur, puisqu’il avait étendu sa cime au milieu des nuages, et que son coeur s’est enorgueilli de sa hauteur,

Therfor the Lord God seith these thingis, For that that he was reisid in hiynesse, and he yaf his hyynesse greene and thicke, and his herte was reisid in his hiynesse;

11 j’ai voulu le livrer aux mains d’un puissant parmi les nations, pour qu’il lui infligeât le traitement dû à sa méchanceté: je l’ai répudié.

now Y haue youe hym in to the hondis of the strongeste man of hethene men. And he doynge schal do to that Assur; aftir the vnfeithfulnesse of hym Y castide hym out.

12 Ils l’ont coupé, les étrangers, les plus violents des peuples, ils l’ont jeté là. Sur les montagnes et sur toutes les vallées sont tombées ses branches; ses rameaux se sont brisés dans tous les ravins de la terre. Ils se sont retirés de son ombre, tous les peuples de la terre, et ils l’ont abandonné.

And aliens, and the moost cruel men of naciouns, schulen kitte hym doun, and schulen caste hym forth on hillis. And hise braunchis schulen falle doun in alle grete valeis, and hise trees schulen be brokun in alle roochis of stoon of erthe. And alle the puplis of erthe schulen go awei fro his schadewing place, and schulen forsake hym.

13 Sur sa ruine habitent tous les oiseaux du ciel et sur ses rameaux se posent toutes les bêtes des champs,

Alle volatils of the eir dwelliden in the fallyng of hym, and alle beestis of the cuntrei weren in the braunchis of hym.

14 pour qu’aucun des arbres plantés près des eaux ne s’enorgueillisse plus de sa haute taille, et qu’ils ne percent plus les nuages de leur cime et qu’ils ne se dressent plus dans leur hauteur, ces géants, tous ces buveurs d’eau, car tous ont été voués à là mort, précipités dans les régions souterraines, au milieu des fils de l’homme, auprès de ceux qui sont descendus dans la fosse."

Wherfor alle the trees of watris schulen not be reisid in hir hiynesse, nether schulen sette hir hiynesse among places ful of woode, and ful of boowis, and alle trees that ben moistid of watris schulen not stonde in the hiynesse of tho. For alle thei ben youun in to deth, to the ferthest lond in the myddis of the sones of men, to hem that goon doun in to the lake.

15 Ainsi parle le Seigneur Dieu: "Le jour où il est descendu dans le Scheol, j’ai fait mener le deuil; à cause de lui j’ai recouvert la source profonde, j’en ai arrêté les fleuves, et les grandes eaux ont été retenues prisonnières; j’ai enténébré pour lui le Liban, et tous les arbres des champs ont été pris de langueur à cause de lui. The Lord God seith these thingis, In the dai whanne he yede doun to hellis, Y brouyte yn mourenyng; Y hilide hym with depthe of watris, and I forbede his flodis, and Y refreynede many watris. The Liban was sori on him, and alle the trees of the feeld (Sheol h7585)

16 Au bruit de sa chute, j’ai fait tressaillir les peuples, quand je l’ai fait descendre dans le Scheol avec ceux qui descendent dans la fosse, et ils se sont consolés dans les régions souterraines, tous les arbres de l’Eden, les plus beaux, les meilleurs du Liban, tous les buveurs d’eau. weren shakun of the soun of his falling. I mouide togidere hethene men, whanne Y ledde hym doun to helle, with hem that yeden doun in to the lake. And alle trees of likyng, noble trees, and ful cleere in the Liban, alle that weren moistid with watris, weren coumfortid in the loweste lond. (Sheol h7585)

17 Eux aussi sont descendus avec lui dans le Scheol auprès des victimes de l’épée; de même ses auxiliaires qui, s’asseyaient à son ombre parmi les nations. (Sheol h7585)

For whi also thei schulen go doun with hym to helle, to slayn men with swerd; and the arm of ech man schal sitte vndur the schadewyng place of hym, in the myddis of naciouns. (Sheol h7585)

18 A qui donc pouvais-tu être comparé en gloire et en grandeur parmi les arbres de l’Eden? Et pourtant, tu seras précipité, avec les arbres de l’Eden, dans les régions souterraines, parmi les incirconcis; tu seras couché avec les victimes de l’épée. Voilà ce qu’est Pharaon avec toute sa cohue, dit le Seigneur Dieu."

To whom art thou licned, thou noble and hiy among the trees of likyng? Lo! thou art led doun with the trees of likyng to the fertheste lond. In the myddis of vncircumcidid men thou schalt slepe, with hem that ben slayn bi swerd. Thilke is Farao, and al the multitude of hym, seith the Lord God.
