Ézéchiel 20
1 II arriva, dans la septième année, le dixième jour du cinquième mois, que certains d’entre les anciens d’Israël vinrent consulter le Seigneur, et ils s’assirent en face de moi.
And it came to pass in the seventh year, in the fifth month, on the tenth day of the month, that certain men of the elders of Israel came to inquire of the Lord, and they sat down before me.
2 Et la parole du Seigneur me fut adressée en ces termes:
And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
3 "Fils de l’homme, parle aux anciens d’Israël et dis-leur: Ainsi parle le Seigneur Dieu: C’Est pour me consulter que vous venez? Par ma vie, je ne me laisserai pas consulter par vous, dit le Seigneur Dieu.
Son of man, speak unto the elders of Israel, and say unto them, Thus hath said the Lord Eternal, Is it to inquire of me that ye are coming? as I live, I will not let myself be inquired of by you, saith the Lord Eternal.
4 Veux-tu les juger, fils de l’homme, veux-tu les juger? Fais-leur connaître les abominations de leurs pères.
Wilt thou take them to task, wilt thou take them to task, son of man? then cause them to know the abominations of their fathers;
5 Tu leur diras donc: Ainsi parle le Seigneur Dieu: Le jour où j’ai fait choix d’Israël, où j’ai levé la main pour la postérité de la maison de Jacob, où je me suis révélé à eux au pays d’Egypte, où j’ai levé la main pour eux en disant: Je suis l’Eternel votre Dieu,
And say unto them, Thus hath said the Lord Eternal, On the day when I made choice of Israel, I lifted up my hand unto the seed of the house of Jacob, and I made myself known unto them in the land of Egypt: and I lifted up my hand unto them, saying, I am the Lord your God.
6 ce jour-là, je leur ai juré de leur faire quitter le pays d’Egypte pour une contrée que j’avais explorée à leur intention, où ruissellent le lait et le miel, et qui est un joyau entre tous les pays.
On the same day I lifted up my hand unto them, to bring them forth from the land of Egypt into a land that I had selected for them, flowing with milk and honey, which is an ornament among all the countries.
7 Et je leur ai dit: "Que chacun de vous rejette au loin les abominations qui sont sous ses yeux! Ne vous souillez pas avec les idoles infâmes de l’Egypte, je suis l’Eternel votre Dieu."
And I said unto them, Cast ye away every one of the abominations of his eyes, and on the idols of Egypt shall ye not defile yourselves: I am the Lord your God.
8 Mais ils se sont mutinés contre moi, ils n’ont pas consenti à m’écouter; ils n’ont pas rejeté les abjections dont ils étaient témoins, ils n’ont pas abandonné les idoles de l’Egypte, et je songeais à épancher mon courroux sur eux, à assouvir sur eux ma colère au milieu du pays d’Egypte.
But they rebelled against me, and they would not hearken unto me; they did not cast away every one the abominations of their eyes, and the idols of Egypt did they not forsake: and I thought then to pour out my fury over them, to let out all my anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt.
9 Mais j’agis en considération de mon nom, pour ne pas le profaner aux yeux des nations au milieu desquelles ils se trouvaient et à la vue desquelles je m’étais révélé à eux pour les faire sortir du pays d’Egypte.
But I acted for the sake of my name, so as not to profane it before the eyes of the nations, in the midst of whom they were; because I had made myself known unto them before their eyes, to bring them forth out of the land of Egypt.
10 Je les tirai donc du pays d’Egypte et je les amenai au désert.
I therefore caused them to go forth out of the land of Egypt, and brought them into the wilderness.
11 Je leur donnai mes lois et leur fis connaître mes règlements, que l’homme doit accomplir pour assurer sa vie.
And I gave them my statutes, and my ordinances made I known to them, which a man is to do, that he may live through them.
12 Je leur donnai aussi mes sabbats, qui devaient être un symbole entre moi et eux, pour qu’on sût que c’est moi, l’Eternel, qui les sanctifie.
And also my sabbaths gave I unto them, to be as a sign between me and between them, that they might know that I am the Lord who sanctify them.
13 Mais la maison d’Israël s’est révoltée contre moi dans le désert; ils n’ont pas suivi mes lois, ils ont méprisé mes règlements, que l’homme doit accomplir pour vivre, ils ont profané à l’excès mes sabbats, et je songeai à épancher mon courroux sur eux dans le désert pour les anéantir.
But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness; in my statutes they walked not, and my ordinances they despised, which a man is to do, that he may live through them; and my sabbaths they greatly profaned: and I then thought to pour out my fury over them in the wilderness, to make an end of them.
14 Mais j’agis en considération de mon nom, pour ne pas le profaner aux yeux des nations à la vue desquelles je les avais fait sortir.
But I acted for the sake of my name, so as not to profane it before the eyes of the nations, before whose eyes I had brought them forth.
15 Aussi bien, je jurai contre eux au désert, de ne pas les amener au pays que je leur destinais, ruisselant de lait et de miel, qui est un joyau entre tous les pays,
Yet did I also lift up my hand unto them in the wilderness, that I would not bring them into the land which I had given [them], flowing with milk and honey, which is an ornament among all the countries.
16 parce qu’ils avaient méprisé mes règlements, refusé de suivre mes lois et profané mes sabbats, leur coeur n’étant épris que de leurs viles idoles.
Because my ordinances they had despised, and in my statutes they had not walked, and my sabbaths they had profaned; for after their idols did their heart go.
17 Mais mon oeil eut trop pitié d’eux pour les détruire et je ne les ai pas réduits à néant dans le désert.
Nevertheless my eye looked pityingly on them, so as not to destroy them, and I did not make an end of them in the wilderness.
18 Et je dis à leurs enfants dans le désert: "Ne suivez point les errements de vos pères, n’observez pas leurs coutumes et ne vous souillez point par leurs idoles.
And I said unto their children in the wilderness, In the statutes of your fathers shall ye not walk, and their ordinances shall ye not keep, and on their idols shall ye not defile yourselves.
19 Je suis l’Eternel, votre Dieu, suivez mes lois, observez mes règlements et exécutez-les.
I am the Lord your God: in my statutes must ye walk, and my ordinances must ye keep, and do them;
20 Sanctifiez mes sabbats; qu’ils soient un symbole entre moi et vous, pour qu’on sache que je suis l’Eternel, votre Dieu.
And my sabbaths must ye sanctify; and they shall be as a sign between me and between you, that ye may know that I am the Lord your God.
21 Et les enfants se sont révoltés contre moi ils n’ont pas suivi mes lois, ils n’ont pas respecté, pour les accomplir, mes règlements que l’homme doit accomplir pour vivre; ils ont profané mes sabbats, et je songeai à épancher mon courroux sur eux, à assouvir sur eux ma colère dans le désert.
Nevertheless the children rebelled against me; in my statutes did they not walk, and my ordinances they kept not to do them, which a man is to do, that he may live through them; my sabbaths they profaned: and I then thought to pour out my fury over them, to let out all my anger against them in the wilderness.
22 Mais je retins ma main et j’agis en considération de mon nom, pour ne pas le profaner aux yeux des nations à la vue desquelles je les avais fait sortir.
But I withdrew my hand, and acted for the sake of my name, so as not to profane it before the eyes of the nations, before whose eyes I had brought them forth.
23 Mais j’ai aussi juré contre eux dans le désert, de les disperser parmi les nations et de les disséminer dans les pays,
I also lifted up my hand unto them in the wilderness, that I would scatter them among the nations, and disperse them through the countries;
24 parce qu’ils n’ont pas accompli mes règlements, et qu’ils ont méprisé mes lois, profané mes sabbats, et que leurs yeux ont été épris des idoles de leurs pères.
Because my ordinances they had not executed, and my statutes they had despised, and my sabbaths they had profaned, and after the idols of their fathers their eyes were directed.
25 Mais en revanche, moi je leur ai donné des lois malheureuses et des règlements non susceptibles de les faire vivre.
And I also let them follow statutes that were not good, and ordinances whereby they could not live;
26 Je les ai rendus impurs par leurs offrandes, en ce qu’ils faisaient passer par le feu tout premier-né, de manière à les terroriser, afin qu’ils connussent que je suis l’Eternel.
And I let them be defiled through their gifts, in that they caused to pass [through the fire] all that openeth the womb, in order that I might destroy them, to the end that they might know that I am the Lord.
27 C’Est pourquoi, parle à la maison d’Israël, fils de l’homme, et dis-leur: Ainsi parle le Seigneur Dieu: Encore en cela vos pères m’ont outragé, en commettant une infidélité à mon égard.
Therefore, speak unto the house of Israel, O son of man, and say unto them, Thus hath said the Lord Eternal, Yet in this too did your fathers blaspheme me, by their committing a trespass against me:
28 Je les avais amenés au pays que j’avais juré de leur donner; et eux, dès qu’ils aperçurent toute colline élevée et tout arbre touffu, ils y ont immolé leurs sacrifices, déposé leurs odieuses offrandes, apporté leurs parfums voluptueux et répandu leurs libations.
When I had brought them into the land, for which I had lifted up my hand to give it to them, they saw every high hill, and all the thick-branched trees, and they offered there their sacrifices, and presented there their provoking offerings, and they brought there their sweet savor, and poured out there their drink-offerings.
29 Et je leur ai dit: Qu’est-ce que ce haut lieu où vous venez vous réunir? (Et on l’a désigné du nom de Bama, jusqu’à ce jour.)
Then said I unto them, What is this high-place whereunto ye go? And its name was called “The height” until this day.
30 C’Est pourquoi dis à la maison d’Israël: Ainsi parle le Seigneur Dieu: Quoi! Vous vous rendriez impurs comme ont fait vos pères et vous vous prostitueriez à leurs idoles abjectes!
Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus hath said the Lord Eternal, Ha! do you pollute yourselves after the manner of your fathers; and after their abominations do ye go astray?
31 Oui, en apportant vos offrandes, en faisant passer vos enfants par le feu, vous vous souillez par toutes vos idoles jusqu’à ce jour, et moi, je me laisserais consulter par vous, maison d’Israël! Par ma vie, dit le Seigneur Dieu, je ne me laisserai pas consulter par vous!
And when ye offer up your gifts, when ye make your sons pass through the fire, ye pollute yourselves with all your idols, even until this day: and I should allow myself to be inquired of by you, O house of Israel? As I live, saith the Lord Eternal, I will not let myself be inquired of by you.
32 Ce qui vous monte en l’esprit ne se réalisera pas, lorsque vous dites: "Devenons comme les nations, comme les familles des autres pays pour adorer le bois et la pierre!"
And that which cometh up into your mind shall not at all come to pass, [namely, ] that ye say, We will be like the nations, like the families of the [other] countries, to serve wood and stone.
33 Par ma vie, dit le Seigneur Dieu, je jure que d’une main puissante et d’un bras étendu et d’un courroux débordant, je me comporterai en roi à votre égard!
As I live, saith the Lord Eternal, surely, with a mighty hand, and with an outstretched arm, and with fury poured out, will I rule over you:
34 Je vous ferai sortir d’entre les peuples et je vous rassemblerai des pays où vous avez été dispersés, avec une main puissante, avec un bras étendu et avec un courroux déchaîné.
And I will bring you out from the people, and I will gather you out of the countries wherein ye are scattered, with a mighty hand, and with an outstretched arm, and with [my] fury poured out.
35 Et je vous amènerai au désert des peuples, et je vous demanderai des comptes, là, face à face.
And I will bring you into the wilderness of the people, and I will hold judgment over you there, face to face.
36 Comme j’ai demandé des comptes à vos pères dans le désert du pays d’Egypte, ainsi je vous demanderai des comptes à vous, dit le Seigneur Dieu.
As I held judgment over your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so will I hold judgment over you, saith the Lord Eternal.
37 Et je vous ferai passer sous la verge, et je vous engagerai dans les liens de l’alliance.
And I will cause you to pass under the rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant;
38 Et je trierai parmi vous ceux qui se révoltent et pèchent contre moi, je les ferai sortir du pays où ils séjournent, et ils ne viendront pas au pays d’Israël, et vous saurez que je suis l’Eternel.
And I will separate from you those that have rebelled, and those that have transgressed against me: out of the country where they sojourn will I cause them to go forth, but into the land of Israel shall not one [of them] enter; and ye shall know that I am the Lord.
39 Pour vous, maison d’Israël, ainsi parle le Seigneur Dieu, que chacun aille donc adorer ses idoles, et après cela on verra si vous ne m’écoutez pas; vous ne profanerez plus mon saint nom par vos offrandes et vos idoles.
As for you, O house of Israel, thus hath said the Lord Eternal, Go ye, serve ye every one his idols, and hereafter [also], if ye will not hearken unto me; but my holy name do not profane any more with your gifts, and with your idols.
40 Car c’est sur ma montagne sainte, sur la montagne élevée d’Israël, dit le Seigneur Dieu, c’est là que m’adorera la maison d’Israël tout entière, dans le pays. Là je les agréerai, et là je rechercherai vos prélèvements et les prémices de vos dons, avec toutes vos choses saintes.
For on my holy mountain, on the mountain of the height of Israel, saith the Lord Eternal, there shall serve me all the house of Israel, altogether, in the land: there will I accept them in favor, and there will I require your heave-offerings, and the first-fruits of your oblations, with all your holy things.
41 Grâce à un parfum agréable, je vous accueillerai avec bienveillance, quand je vous aurai fait sortir du sein des peuples, rassemblés des pays où vous avez été dispersés, et je me sanctifierai par vous aux yeux des nations.
With your sweet savor will I accept you in favor, when I bring you out from the people, and gather you out of the countries wherein ye have been scattered: and I will be sanctified through you before the eyes of the nations.
42 Et vous saurez que je suis l’Eternel, quand je vous aurai menés au pays d’Israël, sur la terre que j’ai juré de donner à vos pères.
And ye shall know that I am the Lord, when I bring you into the land of Israel, into the country for which I have lifted up my hand to give it to your fathers.
43 Là, vous vous souviendrez de vos voies et de vos actes par lesquels vous vous êtes souillés, et vous aurez du dégoût pour vous-mêmes à cause de tous les forfaits que vous avez commis.
And ye shall remember there your ways, and all your doings, whereby ye have been defiled; and ye shall loathe yourselves, because of all your evil deeds that ye have committed.
44 Et vous saurez que je suis l’Eternel, lorsque j’en userai avec vous par égard pour mon nom, non selon vos voies, qui sont mauvaises et selon vos actes dépravés, maison d’Israël, dit le Seigneur Dieu."
And ye shall know that I am the Lord, when I deal with you for the sake of my name, not in accordance with your wicked ways, and in accordance with your corrupt doings, O ye house of Israel, saith the Lord Eternal.
45 La parole de l’Eternel me fut adressée en ces termes:
And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
46 "Fils de l’homme, tourne ta face dans la direction méridionale, prêche contre le Sud et prophétise contre la forêt de la campagne du Midi.
Son of man, set thy face in the direction toward the south, and preach toward the south, and prophesy against the forest of the field in the south.
47 Tu diras à la forêt du Sud: "Ecoute la parole du Seigneur: Ainsi parle le Seigneur Dieu: Je vais allumer en toi un feu qui te dévorera tous tes arbres verts et tous tes arbres secs; elle ne s’éteindra pas, la flamme flambante, tous les visages s’y brûleront du Sud jusqu’au Nord.
And say to the forest of the south, Hear the word of the Lord, Thus hath said the Lord Eternal, Behold, I will kindle a fire in thee, and it shall devour in thee every green tree, and every dry tree: the glowing flame shall not be quenched, and there shall be burnt therein all faces from the south to the north.
48 Et toute chair verra que moi, l’Eternel, je l’ai allumée; elle ne s’éteindra pas.
And all flesh shall see that I the Lord have kindled it: it shall not be quenched.
49 Et je dis: "Ah! Seigneur Dieu, ils me disent, eux: Oh! C’Est un conteur d’allégories!"
Then said I, Ah Lord Eternal! they say of me, Behold, he speaketh but in parables!
