Exode 15

1 Alors Moïse et les enfants d’Israël chantèrent l’hymne suivant à l’Éternel. Ils dirent: "Chantons l’Éternel, il est souverainement grand; coursier et cavalier, il les a lancés dans la mer.

Then sang Moses and the children of Israel this song to Jehovah, and spoke, saying, I will sing unto Jehovah, for he is highly exalted: The horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.

2 Il est ma force et ma gloire, l’Éternel! Je lui dois mon salut. Voilà mon Dieu, je lui rends hommage; le Dieu de mon père et je le glorifie.

My strength and song is Jah, and he is become my salvation: This is my God, and I will glorify him; My father's God, and I will extol him.

3 L’Éternel est le maître des batailles; Éternel est son nom!

Jehovah is a man of war; Jehovah, his name.

4 Les chars de Pharaon et son armée, il les a précipités dans la mer; l’élite de ses combattants se sont noyés dans la mer des Joncs.

Pharaoh's chariots and his army hath he cast into the sea; His chosen captains also are drowned in the Red Sea.

5 L’Abîme s’est fermé sur eux; au fond du gouffre ils sont tombés comme une pierre.

The depths covered them; they sank to the bottom as a stone.

6 Ta droite, Seigneur, est insigne par la puissance; Ta droite, Seigneur, écrase l’ennemi.

Thy right hand, Jehovah, is become glorious in power: Thy right hand, Jehovah, hath dashed in pieces the enemy.

7 Par ta souveraine majesté tu renversas tes adversaires; tu déchaînes ton courroux. Il les consume comme du chaume.

And by the greatness of thine excellency thou hast overthrown thine adversaries: Thou sentest forth thy burning wrath, it consumed them as stubble.

8 Au souffle de ta face les eaux s’amoncellent, les ondes se dressent comme une digue, les flots se figent au sein de la mer.

And by the breath of thy nostrils the waters were heaped up; The streams stood as a mound; The depths were congealed in the heart of the sea.

9 Il disait, l’ennemi: 'Courons, atteignons! Partageons le butin! Que mon âme s’en repaisse!" Tirons l’épée, que ma main les extermine!…'

The enemy said, I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; my soul shall be sated upon them; I will unsheath my sword, my hand shall dispossess them.

10 Toi, tu as soufflé, l’océan les a engloutis; ils se sont abîmés comme le plomb au sein des eaux puissantes.

Thou didst blow with thy breath, the sea covered them; They sank as lead in the mighty waters.

11 Qui t’égale parmi les forts, Éternel? Qui est, comme toi, paré de sainteté; inaccessible à la louange, fécond en merveilles?

Who is like unto thee, Jehovah, among the gods? Who is like unto thee, glorifying thyself in holiness, Fearful [in] praises, doing wonders?

12 Tu as étendu ta droite, la terre les dévore.

Thou stretchedst out thy right hand, the earth swallowed them.

13 Tu guides, par ta grâce, ce peuple que tu viens d’affranchir; tu le diriges, par ta puissance, vers ta sainte demeure.

Thou by thy mercy hast led forth the people that thou hast redeemed; Thou hast guided them by thy strength unto the abode of thy holiness.

14 A cette nouvelle, les peuples s’inquiètent, un frisson s’empare des habitants de la Philistée.

The peoples heard it, they were afraid: A thrill seized the inhabitants of Philistia.

15 A leur tour ils tremblent, les chefs d’Édom; les vaillants de Moab sont saisis de terreur, consternés, tous les habitants de Canaan.

Then the princes of Edom were amazed; The mighty men of Moab, trembling hath seized them; All the inhabitants of Canaan melted away.

16 Sur eux pèse l’anxiété, l’épouvante; la majesté de ton bras les rend immobiles comme la pierre, jusqu’à ce qu’il ait passé, ton peuple, Seigneur! Qu’il ait passé, ce peuple acquis par toi;

Fear and dread fall upon them; By the greatness of thine arm they are still as a stone; Till thy people pass over, Jehovah, Till the people pass over that thou hast purchased.

17 Que tu les aies amenés, fixés, sur ce mont, ton domaine, résidence que tu t’es réservée, Seigneur! Sanctuaire, ô mon Dieu! Préparé par tes mains.

Thou shalt bring them in, and plant them in the mountain of thine inheritance, The place that thou, Jehovah, hast made thy dwelling, The Sanctuary, Lord, that thy hands have prepared.

18 L’Éternel régnera à tout jamais!"

Jehovah shall reign for ever and ever!

19 Car, les chevaux de Pharaon, chars et cavalerie, s’étant avancés dans la mer, l’Éternel en avait refoulé les eaux sur eux, tandis que les enfants d’Israël marchaient à pied sec au milieu de la mer.

For the horse of Pharaoh, with his chariots and with his horsemen, came into the sea, and Jehovah brought again the waters of the sea upon them; and the children of Israel went on dry [ground] through the midst of the sea.

20 Miryam, la prophétesse, soeur d’Aaron, prit en main un tambourin et toutes les femmes la suivirent avec des tambourins et des instruments de danse.

And Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took the tambour in her hand, and all the women went out after her with tambours and with dances.

21 Et Miryam leur fit répéter: "Chantez l’Éternel, il est souverainement grand; coursier et cavalier, il les a lancés dans la mer…"

And Miriam answered them, Sing to Jehovah, for he is highly exalted: The horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.

22 Moïse fit décamper Israël de la plage des joncs et ils débouchèrent dans le désert de Chour, où ils marchèrent trois jours sans trouver d’eau.

And Moses brought Israel from the Red Sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness, and found no water.

23 Ils arrivèrent à Mara. Or, ils ne purent boire l’eau de Mara, elle était trop amère; c’est pourquoi on nomma ce lieu Mara.

And they came to Marah, and could not drink the waters of Marah, for they were bitter; therefore the name of it was called Marah.

24 Le peuple murmura contre Moïse, disant: "Que boirons-nous?"

And the people murmured against Moses, saying, What shall we drink?

25 Moïse implora le Seigneur; celui-ci lui indiqua un bois, qu’il jeta dans l’eau et l’eau devint potable. C’Est alors qu’il lui imposa un principe et une loi, c’est alors qu’il le mit à l’épreuve

And he cried to Jehovah; and Jehovah shewed him wood, and he cast it into the waters, and the waters became sweet. There he made for them a statute and an ordinance; and there he tested them.

26 et il dit: "Si tu écoutes la voix de l’Éternel ton Dieu; si tu t’appliques à lui plaire; si tu-es docile à ses préceptes et fidèle à toutes ses lois, aucune des plaies dont j’ai frappé, l’Égypte ne t’atteindra, car moi, l’Éternel, je te préserverai."

And he said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of Jehovah thy God, and do what is right in his eyes, and incline thine ears to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the complaints upon thee that I have put upon the Egyptians; for I am Jehovah who healeth thee.

27 Ils arrivèrent à Élim, là étaient douze sources d’eau et soixante-dix palmiers. Ils y campèrent près des eaux.

And they came to Elim; and twelve springs of water were there, and seventy palm trees; and they encamped there by the waters.
