Deutéronome 18
1 "Il n’est accordé aux pontifes, descendants de Lévi, à la tribu de Lévi en général, ni part ni héritage comme au reste d’Israël: c’est des sacrifices de l’Éternel et de son patrimoine qu’ils subsisteront.
Neither the priests the Levites [nor] any of the tribe of Levi, shall have either portion or inheritance with Israel, —the altar-flames of Yahweh and his inheritance, shall they eat.
2 Ils n’auront point d’héritage au milieu de leurs frères: c’est Dieu qui est leur héritage, comme il le leur a déclaré.
But inheritance, shall he not have, in the midst of his brethren, —Yahweh, is his inheritance, as he spake unto him.
3 Voici quel sera le droit dû aux pontifes par le peuple, par quiconque tuera une bête, soit de gros ou de menu bétail: il en donnera au pontife l’épaule, les mâchoires et l’estomac.
This, therefore shall be the due of the priests from the people from them who offer the sacrifice whether ox or lamb, —there shall be given unto the priest, the shoulder and the two cheeks and the maw:
4 Les prémices de ton blé, de ton vin, de ton huile, les prémices de la toison de ton menu bétail, tu les lui donneras.
the firstfruit of thy corn thy new wine and thine oil and the first of the fleece of thy flock, shalt thou give unto him.
5 Car c’est lui que l’Éternel, ton Dieu, a désigné entre toutes les tribus, pour remplir, en permanence, son ministère au nom de l’Éternel, de père en fils, à jamais.
For of him, hath Yahweh thy God made choice out of all thy tribes, —to stand to minister in the name of Yahweh of him and his sons all the days.
6 Lorsque le Lévite, quittant l’une de tes villes, une localité quelconque en Israël où il habite, viendra, de son plein gré, à l’endroit élu par le Seigneur,
And when the Levite shall come in out of any of thy gates out of any part of Israel, where he is sojourning, —yea shall come in with all the desire of his soul, into the place which Yahweh shall choose,
7 il pourra servir au nom de l’Éternel, son Dieu, comme tous ses frères les Lévites, qui se tiennent là devant l’Éternel.
then may he minister in the name of Yahweh his God, —like any of his brethren the Levites who are standing there before Yahweh.
8 Il jouira d’une portion égale à la leur, indépendamment de ses ventes sur les biens paternels.
Portion for portion, shall they eat, —apart from his possessions upon his patrimony.
9 Quand tu seras entré dans le pays que l’Éternel, ton Dieu, te donne, ne t’habitue pas à imiter les abominations de ces peuples-là.
When thou art coming into the land which Yahweh thy God is giving unto thee, thou shalt not learn to do according to the abominable doings of those nations.
10 Qu’il ne se trouve personne, chez toi, qui fasse passer par le feu son fils ou sa fille; qui pratique des enchantements, qui s’adonne aux augures, à la divination, à la magie
There shall not be found in thy midst—One who causeth his son or his daughter to pass through fire, —Or who useth divination, hidden arts or enchantments Or who muttereth incantations;
11 qui emploie des charmes, qui ait recours aux évocations ou aux sortilèges ou qui interroge les morts.
Or who bindeth with spells, —Or who asketh of a familiar spirit or an oracle, Or who seeketh unto the dead.
12 Car l’Éternel a horreur de quiconque fait pareilles choses; et c’est à cause de telles abominations que l’Éternel, ton Dieu, dépossède ces peuples à ton profit.
For, an abomination unto Yahweh, is everyone who doeth these things, —and on account of these abominations, is Yahweh thy God dispossessing them from before thee.
13 Reste entièrement avec l’Éternel, ton Dieu!
Blameless, shalt thou be with, Yahweh thy God;
14 Car ces nations que tu vas déposséder ajoutent foi à des augures et à des enchanteurs; mais toi, ce n’est pas là ce que t’a départi l’Éternel, ton Dieu.
for, these nations whom thou art dispossessing, unto them who use hidden arts and unto diviners, do hearken, but as for thee, not so, doth Yahweh thy God suffer thee.
15 C’Est un prophète sorti de tes rangs, un de tes frères comme moi, que l’Éternel, ton Dieu, suscitera en ta faveur: c’est lui que vous devez écouter!
A prophet out of thy midst of thy brethren like unto me, will Yahweh thy God, raise up unto thee—unto him, shall ye hearken:
16 Absolument comme tu l’as demandé à l’Éternel, ton Dieu, au mont Horeb, le jour de la convocation, quand tu as dit: "Je ne veux plus entendre la voix de l’Éternel, mon Dieu, et ce feu intense, je ne veux plus le voir, de peur d’en mourir;
according to all which thou didst ask of Yahweh thy God, in Horeb, in the day of the convocation saying, —Let me no further hearken unto the voice of Yahweh my God, and this great fire, let me not see any more lest I die.
17 et le Seigneur me dit alors: "Ils ont bien parlé.
And Yahweh said unto me: They have well said what they have spoken.
18 Je leur susciterai un prophète du milieu de leurs frères, tel que toi, et je mettrai mes paroles dans sa bouche, et il leur dira tout ce que je lui ordonnerai.
A prophet, will I raise up unto them, out of the midst of their brethren, like unto thee, —and I will put my words in his mouth, so shall he speak unto them whatsoever I shall command him.
19 Et alors, celui qui n’obéira pas à mes paroles, qu’il énoncera en mon nom, c’est moi qui lui demanderai compte!
And it shall come to pass, that, the man who will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I, myself will require it of him.
20 Toutefois, si un prophète avait l’audace d’annoncer en mon nom une chose que je ne lui aurais pas enjoint d’annoncer, ou s’il parlait au nom d’un divinité étrangère, ce prophète doit mourir."
Howbeit the prophet who shall presume to speak a word in my name which I have not commanded him to speak, or who shall speak in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die.
21 Mais, diras-tu en toi-même, comment reconnaîtrons-nous la parole qui n’émane pas de l’Éternel?
And, when thou shalt say in thy heart, —In what manner shall we know the word which Yahweh hath not spoken!?,
22 Si le prophète annonce de la part de l’Éternel une chose qui ne saurait être, ou qui n’est pas suivie d’effet, cette annonce n’aura pas été dictée par l’Éternel; c’est avec témérité que le prophète l’a émise, ne crains pas de sévir à son égard.
When the prophet shall speak in the name of Yahweh and the word shall not come to pass, neither shall come in, that, is the word which Yahweh, hath not spoken, —presumptuously, hath the prophet spoken it, thou shall not be in dread of him.
