Deutéronome 11
1 Tu aimeras donc l’Éternel, ton Dieu, et tu observeras ses lois, ses statuts, ses préceptes, en tous temps.
Therefore thou shalt love the LORD thy God, and keep his charge, and his statutes, and his judgments, and his commandments, alway.
2 Reconnaissez en ce jour, car ce n’est pas à vos enfants que je parle, eux qui ne connaissent pas, qui n’ont point vu, reconnaissez les enseignements de l’Éternel, votre Dieu, sa grandeur, sa main puissante et son bras étendu;
And know ye this day: for [I speak] not with your children which have not known, and which have not seen the chastisement of the LORD your God, his greatness, his mighty hand, and his stretched out arm,
3 les signes et les œuvres qu’il a opérés au sein de l’Egypte, sur Pharaon, roi d’Egypte, et sur tout son pays;
And his miracles, and his acts, which he did in the midst of Egypt unto Pharaoh the king of Egypt, and unto all his land;
4 ce qu’il a fait à l’armée égyptienne, à ses chars et à sa cavalerie, alors qu’il les submergea sous les eaux de la mer des Joncs, quand ils vous poursuivaient, et que l’Éternel les fit disparaître jusqu’à ce jour;
And what he did unto the army of Egypt, unto their horses, and to their chariots; how he made the water of the Red sea to overflow them as they pursued after you, and [how] the LORD hath destroyed them unto this day;
5 ce qu’il vous a fait dans le désert, jusqu’à votre arrivée en ce lieu;
And what he did unto you in the wilderness, until ye came into this place;
6 ce qu’il a fait à l’égard de Dathan et d’Abirâm, fils d’Elïab, descendant de Ruben, quand la terre ouvrit son sein et les engloutit avec leurs familles et leurs tentes, et tous leurs adhérents, à la vue d’Israël entier.
And what he did unto Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, the son of Reuben: how the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their households, and their tents, and all the substance that [was] in their possession, in the midst of all Israel:
7 Ce sont vos propres yeux qui ont vu toutes ces grandes œuvres opérées par l’Éternel!
But your eyes have seen all the great acts of the LORD which he did.
8 Gardez donc tous les commandements que je vous donne aujourd’hui; alors vous serez forts, et vous obtiendrez la possession du pays où vous allez, pour le conquérir.
Therefore shall ye keep all the commandments which I command you this day, that ye may be strong, and go in and possess the land, whither ye go to possess it;
9 Alors aussi vous vivrez de longs jours sur cette terre que l’Éternel a juré à vos ancêtres de donner à eux et à leur postérité, terre où ruissellent le lait et le miel.
And that ye may prolong [your] days in the land, which the LORD sware unto your fathers to give unto them and to their seed, a land that floweth with milk and honey.
10 Car le pays où tu vas pour le conquérir ne ressemble point au pays d’Egypte, d’où vous êtes sortis; là, tu devais semer ta graine et l’humecter à l’aide du pied, comme en un jardin potager.
For the land, whither thou goest in to possess it, [is] not as the land of Egypt, from whence ye came out, where thou sowedst thy seed, and wateredst [it] with thy foot, as a garden of herbs:
11 Mais le pays que vous allez conquérir est un pays de montagnes et de vallées, abreuvé par les pluies du ciel;
But the land, whither ye go to possess it, [is] a land of hills and valleys, [and] drinketh water of the rain of heaven:
12 un pays sur lequel veille l’Éternel, ton Dieu, et qui est constamment sous l’œil du Seigneur, depuis le commencement de l’année jusqu’à la fin.
A land which the LORD thy God careth for: the eyes of the LORD thy God [are] always upon it, from the beginning of the year even unto the end of the year.
13 Or, si vous êtes dociles aux lois que je vous impose en ce jour, aimant l’Éternel, votre Dieu, le servant de tout votre cœur et de toute votre âme,
And it shall come to pass, if ye shall hearken diligently unto my commandments which I command you this day, to love the LORD your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul,
14 je donnerai à votre pays la pluie opportune, pluie de printemps et pluie d’arrière-saison, et tu récolteras ton blé, et ton vin et ton huile.
That I will give [you] the rain of your land in his due season, the first rain and the latter rain, that thou mayest gather in thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil.
15 Je ferai croître l’herbe dans ton champ pour ton bétail, et tu vivras dans l’abondance.
And I will send grass in thy fields for thy cattle, that thou mayest eat and be full.
16 Prenez garde que votre cœur ne cède à la séduction, que vous ne deveniez infidèles, au point de servir d’autres dieux et de leur rendre hommage.
Take heed to yourselves, that your heart be not deceived, and ye turn aside, and serve other gods, and worship them;
17 La colère du Seigneur s’allumerait contre vous, il défendrait au ciel de répandre la pluie, et la terre vous refuserait son tribut, et vous disparaîtriez bientôt du bon pays que l’Éternel vous destine.
And [then] the LORD’s wrath be kindled against you, and he shut up the heaven, that there be no rain, and that the land yield not her fruit; and [lest] ye perish quickly from off the good land which the LORD giveth you.
18 Imprimez donc mes paroles dans votre cœur et dans votre pensée; attachez-les, comme symbole, sur votre bras, et portez-les en fronteau entre vos yeux.
Therefore shall ye lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul, and bind them for a sign upon your hand, that they may be as frontlets between your eyes.
19 Enseignez-les à vos enfants en les répétant sans cesse, quand tu seras à la maison ou en voyage, soit que tu te couches, soit que tu te lèves.
And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
20 Inscris-les sur les poteaux de ta maison et sur tes portes.
And thou shalt write them upon the door posts of thine house, and upon thy gates:
21 Alors la durée de vos jours et des jours de vos enfants, sur le sol que l’Éternel a juré à vos pères de leur donner, égalera la durée du ciel au-dessus de la terre.
That your days may be multiplied, and the days of your children, in the land which the LORD sware unto your fathers to give them, as the days of heaven upon the earth.
22 Oui, si vous observez bien toute cette loi que je vous prescris d’accomplir, aimant l’Éternel, votre Dieu, marchant toujours dans ses voies et lui demeurant fidèles,
For if ye shall diligently keep all these commandments which I command you, to do them, to love the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, and to cleave unto him;
23 l’Éternel repoussera toutes ces nations devant vous, et vous déposséderez des peuples plus grands et plus forts que vous.
Then will the LORD drive out all these nations from before you, and ye shall possess greater nations and mightier than yourselves.
24 Toute région où se posera la plante de vos pieds, sera à vous: depuis le désert jusqu’au Liban, depuis le fleuve, le fleuve de l’Euphrate, jusqu’à la mer occidentale, s’étendra votre territoire.
Every place whereon the soles of your feet shall tread shall be yours: from the wilderness and Lebanon, from the river, the river Euphrates, even unto the uttermost sea shall your coast be.
25 Nul ne pourra tenir devant vous; l’Éternel, votre Dieu, répandra votre terreur sur tous les lieux où vous porterez vos pas, ainsi qu’il vous l’a déclaré.
There shall no man be able to stand before you: [for] the LORD your God shall lay the fear of you and the dread of you upon all the land that ye shall tread upon, as he hath said unto you.
26 Voyez, je vous propose en ce jour, d’une part, la bénédiction, la malédiction de l’autre:
Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse;
27 la bénédiction, quand vous obéirez aux commandements de l’Éternel, votre Dieu, que je vous impose aujourd’hui;
A blessing, if ye obey the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you this day:
28 et la malédiction, si vous n’obéissez pas aux commandements de l’Éternel, votre Dieu, si vous quittez la voie que je vous trace aujourd’hui, pour suivre des dieux étrangers, que vous ne connaissez point.
And a curse, if ye will not obey the commandments of the LORD your God, but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day, to go after other gods, which ye have not known.
29 Or, quand l’Éternel, ton Dieu, t’aura installé dans le pays où tu vas pour le conquérir, tu proclameras la bénédiction sur le mont Garizim, la malédiction sur le mont Hébal.
And it shall come to pass, when the LORD thy God hath brought thee in unto the land whither thou goest to possess it, that thou shalt put the blessing upon mount Gerizim, and the curse upon mount Ebal.
30 Ces montagnes sont au delà du Jourdain, en arrière, dans la direction du couchant, dans la province des Cananéens habitants de la plaine, vis-à-vis de Ghilgal, près des chênes de Moré.
[Are] they not on the other side Jordan, by the way where the sun goeth down, in the land of the Canaanites, which dwell in the champaign over against Gilgal, beside the plains of Moreh?
31 Car, vous allez passer le Jourdain pour marcher à la conquête du pays que l’Éternel, votre Dieu, vous donne; vous en prendrez possession et y demeurerez.
For ye shall pass over Jordan to go in to possess the land which the LORD your God giveth you, and ye shall possess it, and dwell therein.
32 Appliquez-vous alors à observer toutes les lois et les statuts que je vous expose en ce jour.
And ye shall observe to do all the statutes and judgments which I set before you this day.
