2 Samuel 16

1 David avait à peine dépassé le sommet qu’il rencontra Ciba, serviteur de Mephiboseth, qui conduisait une paire d’ânes sanglés, portant deux cents pains, cent gâteaux de raisins secs, cent gâteaux de figues et une outre de vin.

And when David was a little past the top of the hill, behold, Ziba the servant of Mephibosheth met him, with a couple of asses saddled, and upon them two hundred loaves of bread, and an hundred bunches of raisins, and an hundred of summer fruits, and a bottle of wine.

2 Le roi dit à Ciba: "Que fais-tu de ces objets?" Ciba répondit: "Les ânes sont destinés, comme montures, à la maison du roi, le pain et les fruits secs à la nourriture des serviteurs, et le vin pour désaltérer ceux qu’a fatigués la marche au désert."

And the king said unto Ziba, What mean you by these? And Ziba said, The asses be for the king's household to ride on; and the bread and summer fruit for the young men to eat; and the wine, that such as be faint in the wilderness may drink.

3 Le roi reprit: "Et où est le fils de ton maître?" Ciba répondit: "Il se tient à Jérusalem, parce que, a-t-il dit, maintenant la maison d’Israël va me rendre la royauté de mon père."

And the king said, And where is your master's son? And Ziba said unto the king, Behold, he abides at Jerusalem: for he said, To day shall the house of Israel restore me the kingdom of my father.

4 Le roi dit à Ciba: "Tous les biens de Mephiboseth sont maintenant pour toi." Et Ciba dit: "Je me prosterne devant toi, mon royal maître, et puissé-je conserver ta faveur!"

Then said the king to Ziba, Behold, your are all that pertained unto Mephibosheth. And Ziba said, I humbly plead to you that I may find grace in your sight, my lord, O king.

5 Le roi David venait d’atteindre Bahourim lorsqu’il en vit sortir un homme de la famille de Saül, nommé Séméi, fils de Ghêra, qui, tout en s’avançant, l’accablait d’injures,

And when king David came to Bahurim, behold, thence came out a man of the family of the house of Saul, whose name was Shimei, the son of Gera: he came forth, and cursed still as he came.

6 lançait des pierres à David et à tous ses serviteurs, à toute la foule et à tous les guerriers qui l’entouraient à droite et à gauche.

And he cast stones at David, and at all the servants of king David: and all the people and all the mighty men were on his right hand and on his left.

7 Et Séméi s’exprimait ainsi dans ses imprécations: "Va-t’en, va-t’en, homme de sang, homme indigne!

And thus said Shimei when he cursed, Come out, come out, you bloody man, and you man of Belial:

8 Le Seigneur a fait retomber sur toi tout le sang de la maison de Saül dont tu occupes le trône, et a fait passer la royauté aux mains de ton fils Absalon. Te voilà puni de ta méchanceté, homme de sang que tu es!"

The LORD has returned upon you all the blood of the house of Saul, in whose position you have reigned; and the LORD has delivered the kingdom into the hand of Absalom your son: and, behold, you are taken in your mischief, because you are a bloody man.

9 Abisaï, fils de Cerouya, dit au roi: "Pourquoi laisse-t-on ce chien mort insulter le roi mon maître? Permets-moi d’avancer et de lui trancher la tête."

Then said Abishai the son of Zeruiah unto the king, Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? let me go over, I pray you, and take off his head.

10 Le roi répondit: "Qu’ai-je affaire de vous, enfants de Cerouya? S’Il insulte ainsi, c’est que Dieu lui aura inspiré d’insulter David; qui lui demandera compte de sa conduite?"

And the king said, What have I to do with you, all of you sons of Zeruiah? so let him curse, because the LORD has said unto him, Curse David. Who shall then say, Wherefore have you done so?

11 Puis il dit à Abïsaï et à tous ses serviteurs: "Si mon propre fils, sorti de mes entrailles, en veut à ma vie, qu’attendre de ce Benjamite? Laissez-le prodiguer l’injure, si Dieu le lui a dit!

And David said to Abishai, and to all his servants, Behold, my son, which came out of my bowels, seeks my life: how much more now may this Benjamite do it? let him alone, and let him curse; for the LORD has bidden him.

12 Peut-être le Seigneur considérera-t-il ma situation et me rendra-t-il du bonheur en échange des outrages que je subis en ce jour."

It may be that the LORD will look on mine affliction, and that the LORD will requite me good for his cursing this day.

13 David, avec ses gens, poursuivit sa route. Cependant Séméi suivait du même pas le flanc de la montagne, continuant à l’insulter, lançant des pierres et faisant voler de la poussière dans sa direction.

And as David and his men went by the way, Shimei went along on the hill's side opposite to him, and cursed as he went, and threw stones at him, and cast dust.

14 Le roi avec toute sa suite, tous fatigués, arriva, et l’on s’y reposa.

And the king, and all the people that were with him, came weary, and refreshed themselves there.

15 Or, Absalon, suivi de tout le peuple israélite, était entré dans Jérusalem, et Ahitofel avec lui.

And Absalom, and all the people the men of Israel, came to Jerusalem, and Ahithophel with him.

16 Lorsque Houchaï l’Arkéen, ami de David, arriva auprès d’Absalon, il s’écria devant lui: "Vive le roi! Vive le roi!"

And it came to pass, when Hushai the Archite, David's friend, was come unto Absalom, that Hushai said unto Absalom, God save the king, God save the king.

17 Absalon lui dit: "C’Est là ton dévouement pour ton ami? Pourquoi n’as-tu pas suivi ton ami?"

And Absalom said to Hushai, Is this your kindness to your friend? why went you not with your friend?

18 Houchaï répondit à Absalon: "Point du tout; celui qui a été adopté par l’Eternel et par ce peuple, par tous les Israélites, c’est à lui que j’appartiens, c’est avec lui que je demeure.

And Hushai said unto Absalom, Nay; but whom the LORD, and this people, and all the men of Israel, choose, his will I be, and with him will I abide.

19 En second lieu, qui vais-je servir? N’Est-ce pas le fils de David? Comme j’ai servi ton père, ainsi serai-je à ton égard."

And again, whom should I serve? should I not serve in the presence of his son? as I have served in your father's presence, so will I be in your presence.

20 Absalon dit à Ahitofel: "Délibérez entre vous sur ce que nous avons à faire."

Then said Absalom to Ahithophel, Give counsel among you what we shall do.

21 Ahitofel répondit à Absalon: "Aie commerce avec les concubines de ton père, laissées par lui pour garder sa demeure; tout Israël saura que tu t’es rendu odieux à ton père, et tous ceux qui sont avec toi en seront plus résolus."

And Ahithophel said unto Absalom, Go in unto your father's concubines, which he has left to keep the house; and all Israel shall hear that you are abhorred of your father: then shall the hands of all that are with you be strong.

22 On dressa donc pour Absalon une tente sur la terrasse, et il eut commerce avec les concubines de son père à la vue de tout Israël.

So they spread Absalom a tent upon the top of the house; and Absalom went in unto his father's concubines in the sight of all Israel.

23 Les avis que donnait Ahitofel en ce temps-là étaient respectés comme la parole de Dieu même; il en était ainsi de tous ses avis et pour David et pour Absalon.

And the counsel of Ahithophel, which he counselled in those days, was as if a man had enquired at the oracle of God: so was all the counsel of Ahithophel both with David and with Absalom.
