1 Or, Elisée avait mandé un des jeunes prophètes pour lui dire: "Ceins tes reins, prends cette fiole d’huile en ta main et rends-toi à Ramot-Galaad.
Now, Elisha the prophet, called one of the sons of the prophets, —and said to him—Gird up thy loins, and take this flask of oil in thy hand, and go to Ramoth-gilead;
2 Arrivé à destination, enquiers-toi de Jéhu, fils de Josaphat, fils de Nimchi. Une fois admis en sa présence, tu l’engageras à se lever du milieu de ses frères d’armes et l’introduiras dans une chambre retirée.
and, when thou art come in thither, then look thee out, there, Jehu son of Jehoshaphat, son of Nimshi; and thou shalt enter and get him to rise up out of the midst of his brethren, and take him into an inner chamber;
3 Prends alors la fiole d’huile, répands-la sur sa tête en disant: Ainsi a parlé l’Eternel: Je te sacre roi d’Israël. Puis ouvre la porte et enfuis-toi sans retard."
then shalt thou take the flask of oil, and pour out upon his head, and say—Thus, saith Yahweh, I have anointed thee to be king unto Israel! Then shalt thou open the door and flee, and not tarry.
4 Le jeune homme, le jeune prophète, alla à Ramot-Galaad.
So the young man went his way—the young man the prophet—unto Ramoth-gilead.
5 Dès son arrivée, il trouva les chefs de l’armée siégeant ensemble, et il dit: "J’Ai une communication pour toi, ô commandant. Pour qui d’entre nous tous?" demanda Jéhu. "Pour toi, commandant," répondit-il.
And, when he came up, lo! the captains of the force, sitting, and he said—A word, have I, for thee, O captain! And Jehu said—For which, of us all? And he said, —For thee, O captain!
6 Jéhu se leva, entra dans la chambre, et le prophète lui versa l’huile sur la tête en lui disant: "Ainsi a parlé l’Eternel, le Dieu d’Israël: Je te sacre roi du peuple de l’Eternel, d’Israël.
Then rose he up and went inside, and poured out the oil upon his head, and said unto him—Thus, saith Yahweh, God of Israel, I have anointed thee to be king unto the people of Yahweh, unto Israel;
7 Tu frapperas la maison de ton maître Achab, et ainsi je vengerai sur Jézabel le sang de mes serviteurs les prophètes et le sang de tous les serviteurs du Seigneur.
and thou shalt smite the house of Ahab thy lord, —so will I avenge the blood of my servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of Yahweh, at the hand of Jezebel;
8 Toute la maison d’Achab doit périr: j’exterminerai la plus vile créature appartenant à Achab, tout ce qu’il possède de précieux et d’infime en Israël.
so shall perish all the house of Ahab, —and I will cut off to Ahab the meanest, both him that is shut up and him that is left at large, in Israel.
9 Je ferai ainsi de la maison d’Achab ce que j’ai fait de la maison de Jéroboam, fils de Nebat, et de la maison de Baasa, fils d’Ahiyya.
Yea I will deliver up the house of Ahab, like the house of Jeroboam son of Nebat, —and like the house of Baasha son of Ahijah:
10 Quant à Jézabel, les chiens la dévoreront sur le domaine de Jezreël, et personne ne l’ensevelira." Puis il ouvrit la porte et s’enfuit.
And, as for Jezebel, the dogs shall eat [her], in the town-land of Jezreel, there being none to bury her. And he opened the door, and fled.
11 Jéhu sortit pour rejoindre les serviteurs de son maître. On lui demanda: "Tout est-il bien? Pourquoi cet exalté est-il venu te trouver?" Il leur répondit: "Vous connaissez bien l’homme et ses discours.
Then, Jehu, came forth unto the servants of his lord, and one said to him—Is all well? why came this madman unto thee? And he said unto them, Ye, know, the man and his message.
12 —C’Est de la dissimulation, répliquèrent-ils; de grâce, raconte-nous tout." Il repartit: "C’Est de telle et telle façon qu’il m’a parlé; il m’a dit: Ainsi a parlé l’Eternel: Je te sacre roi d’Israël."
And they said—False! pray tell, us. And he said, —Thus and thus, spake he unto me, saying, Thus, saith Yahweh, I have anointed thee to be king unto Israel.
13 Aussitôt ils s’empressèrent tous de prendre leurs manteaux, les étendirent sous lui au haut de l’escalier, et sonnèrent du cor en s’écriant: "Jéhu est roi!"
Then hasted they, and took, every man his garment, and put it under him, upon the very steps, —and blew with a horn, and said, Jehu, is king!
14 C’Est de la sorte que Jéhu, fils de Josaphat, fils de Nimchi, complota contre Joram. Celui-ci avait été en observation à Ramot-Galaad, avec tout Israël, en face de Hazaël, roi de Syrie.
Thus did Jehu son of Jehoshaphat son of Nimshi conspire against Joram, —when, Joram, was watching Ramoth-gilead, he and all Israel, because of Hazael king of Syria.
15 Mais le roi Joram s’en était retourné pour attendre à Jezreël la guérison des blessures que lui avaient faites les Syriens au cours de sa campagne contre Hazaël, roi de Syrie. Jéhu dit: "Si vous le voulez bien, qu’aucun transfuge ne sorte de la ville pour porter des nouvelles à Jezreël."
But Jehoram the king had returned to get himself healed in Jezreel, of the wounds wherewith the Syrians had wounded him, when he fought with Hazael king of Syria. Then said Jehu—If such is your mind, let no fugitive get forth out of the city, to go and tell it in Jezreel.
16 Jehu monta sur son char et se rendit à Jezreël, où Joram était alité. Achazia, roi de Juda, était descendu pour rendre visite à Joram.
So Jehu rode in a chariot, and went towards Jezreel, for, Joram, was lying there, —and, Ahaziah king of Judah, had come down to see Joram.
17 Or, le gardien qui se tenait sur la tour de Jezreël remarqua la troupe de Jéhu qui avançait, et il dit: "J’Aperçois une troupe." Joram répliqua: "Prends un cavalier, dépêche-le au-devant d’eux pour qu’il demande: Est-ce la paix?"
Now, the watchman, was standing upon the tower, in Jezreel, so he saw the great company of Jehu, when he came, and said—A great company, can I see! Then said Jehoram—Take a horseman and send to meet them, that he may say—Is it peace?
18 Le cavalier se rendit au-devant de Jéhu et dit: "Voici ce que demande le roi: Est-ce la paix?" Jéhu répondit: "Quoi de commun entre toi et la paix? Passe derrière moi." La sentinelle en fit part en disant: "Le messager est arrivé jusqu’à eux, mais n’est point revenu."
So the horseman went to meet him, and said—Thus, saith the king, Is it peace? And Jehu said—What hast thou to do with peace? turn thee behind me. And the watchman told, saying, The messenger came up to them, but hath not turned back.
19 Il envoya un second cavalier, qui, arrivé auprès d’eux, dit: Voici ce que demande le roi: Est-ce la paix?" Jéhu répondit: "Quoi de commun entre toi et la paix? Passe derrière moi."
Then sent he a second horseman, and he came up to them and said, Thus, saith the king, Is it peace? And Jehu said—What hast thou to do with peace? turn thee behind me.
20 La sentinelle en fit part en ces termes: "Il est arrivé jusqu’à eux et n’est point revenu. Or, le train ressemble au train de Jéhu, fils de Nimchi; car il dirige d’une manière désordonnée."
And the watchman told, saying, He came up to them, but hath not turned back, —and, the driving, is like the driving of Jehu son of Nimshi; for, with mad haste, doth he drive.
21 Joram dit: "Attelle!" On attela son char, et Joram, roi d’Israël, Achazia, roi de Juda, chacun sur son char, sortirent à la rencontre de Jéhu. Ils le joignirent près du domaine de Nabot, le Jezreélite.
Then said Jehoram, Harness! So one harnessed his chariot, —and Jehoram king of Israel and Ahaziah king of Judah went forth, each man in his chariot, yea they went forth to meet Jehu, and came upon him in the heritage of Naboth the Jezreelite.
22 Dès que Joram aperçut Jéhu, il dit: "Est-ce la paix, Jéhu?" Peut-il être question de paix, fut la réponse, tant que durent les débordements de ta mère Jézabel et ses nombreux sortilèges?"
And it came to pass, when Jehoram saw Jehu, that he said—Is it peace, Jehu? And he said—What can be the peace, while thy mother Jezebel’s harlotries and her incantations do so abound?
23 Joram tourna bride et prit la fuite, en disant à Achazia: "Trahison, Achazia!"
Then Jehoram turned his hands, and fled, —and said unto Ahaziah—Treachery! O Ahaziah!
24 Jéhu saisit l’arc de sa main, et la flèche atteignit Joram entre les épaules, de façon à transpercer son cœur: il s’affaissa dans son char.
And, Jehu, bent his bow, and smote Jehoram, between his arms, —and the arrow came out at his heart, —and he sank down in his chariot.
25 Jéhu dit à Bidkar, son officier: "Enlève son corps et jette-le à terre dans le champ de Nabot, le Jezreélite; car je me souviens avec toi du jour où nous chevauchions de concert à la suite d’Achab, son père, alors que l’Eternel a émis contre lui cette prédiction:
Then said he unto Bidkar his officer, Take [him] up, [and] cast him forth, into the field-portion of Naboth the Jezreelite, —for remember, when I and thou were riding as a couple together after Ahab his father, that, Yahweh, laid upon him this doom:
26 A coup sûr, j’ai remarqué hier le sang de Nabot et le sang de ses enfants (dit l’Eternel); je t’en paierai le prix dans ce champ même (dit l’Eternel); enlève-le donc et jette-le dans ce champ, conformément à la parole du Seigneur."
Surely, the blood of Naboth and the blood of his sons, have I lately seen, declareth Yahweh, therefore will I requite thee in this portion, declareth Yahweh. Now, therefore, take [him] up, [and] cast him forth into the portion, according to the word of Yahweh.
27 A cette vue, Achazia, roi de Juda, se mit à fuir dans la direction de la maison du parc; Jéhu se lança à sa poursuite et dit: "Lui aussi, frappez-le!" Il fut atteint dans son char, sur la montée de Gour du côté de Yibleam. Il se réfugia à Meghiddo et y mourut.
And, Ahaziah king of Judah, saw it, and fled by the way of the garden house, —and Jehu pursued him, and said—Him also! smite him in the chariot! It was in the ascent of Gur, which is by Ibleam. And he fled to Mepidgo, and died there.
28 Ses serviteurs le transportèrent à Jérusalem et l’ensevelirent dans son sépulcre, auprès de ses aïeux, dans la Cité de David.
And his servants conveyed him in a chariot and brought him into Jerusalem, —and buried him in his sepulchre, with his fathers, in the city of David.
29 (C’Était dans la onzième année de Joram, fils d’Achab, qu’Achazia avait commencé à régner sur Juda.)
Now it was, in the eleventh year of Joram son of Ahab, that Ahaziah began to reign over Judah.
30 Puis Jéhu entra à Jezreël. Or, Jézabel avait tout appris: elle s’enduisit les yeux de fard, se para la tête et regarda par la fenêtre.
Now, when Jehu entered Jezreel and, Jezebel, heard of it, she set her eyes in stibium, and ornamented her head, and looked forth through the lattice.
31 Jéhu franchissant la porte, elle s’écria: "Est-ce la paix, Zimri, assassin de ton maître?"
So, when, Jehu, had entered in at the gate, she said, Was it peace, when Zimri slew his lord?
32 Il leva les regards vers la fenêtre: "Qui est avec moi, qui?" dit-il. Deux ou trois officiers tournèrent les yeux vers lui,
And he lifted up his face unto the lattice, and said—Who, is with me? Who? And there looked out unto him, two or three eunuchs.
33 et il leur dit: "Précipitez-la!" Ils la précipitèrent. Son sang rejaillit sur le mur et sur les chevaux, et il la foula aux pieds.
And he said—Hurl her down. And they hurled her down, —and there was sprinkled of her blood—upon the wall, and upon the horses, and they trode upon her.
34 Il pénétra dans la ville, mangea et but; puis il dit: "Voyez donc après cette maudite et ensevelissez-la, puisqu’elle est fille de roi.
And, when he had entered and eaten and drunk, he said—Look, I pray you, after this accursed woman, and bury her, for the daughter of a king, she is.
35 Ils allèrent pour l’ensevelir, mais ne trouvèrent plus d’elle que le crâne, les pieds et les paumes des mains.
So they went to bury her, —but found not of her—save the skull, and the feet, and the palms of the hands.
36 Ils revinrent lui en faire part. Alors il s’écria: "Ainsi s’accomplit cette parole de l’Eternel, énoncée par la bouche de son serviteur, Elie le Tisbite: Sur le domaine de Jezreël, les chiens dévoreront la chair de Jézabel,
Then came they back, and told him, and he said—The word of Yahweh, it is, which he spake by the hand of his servant, Elijah the Tishbite, saying—In the town-land of Jezreel, shall dogs eat the flesh of Jezebel!
37 et le cadavre de Jézabel sera étendu sur le domaine de Jezreël, pareil au fumier qui couvre les champs, de telle sorte qu’on ne puisse pas dire: C’Est là Jézabel!"
So shall the carcass of Jezebel become like heaps of dung on the face of the field, in the town-land of Jezreel: So that they cannot say, This, is Jezebel!
