1 Elisée, s’adressant à la femme dont il avait rappelé le fils à la vie, lui dit: "Lève-toi, pars avec les tiens et va séjourner où tu pourras car l’Eternel a fait appel à la famine, et déjà elle arrive dans le pays pour sévir sept années."

Now, Elisha, had spoken unto the woman whose son he had restored to life, saying—Arise, and take thy journey, thou and thy household, and sojourn wheresoever thou canst sojourn, for Yahweh hath called for a famine, moreover also, it is coming upon the land seven years.

2 La femme se leva et, se conformant à la parole de l’homme de Dieu, elle émigra avec les siens et élut domicile dans le pays des Philistins pendant sept années.

So the woman arose, and did according to the word of the man of God, —and took her journey, she and her household, and she sojourned in the land of the Philistines, seven years.

3 Au bout de ces sept années, la femme revint du pays des Philistins; elle se mit en campagne pour réclamer auprès du roi au sujet de sa maison et de son champ.

And it came to pass, at the end of seven years, that the woman returned out of the land of the Philistines, —and she went forth to make outcry unto the king, concerning her house and concerning her field.

4 Or, le roi était en train de s’entretenir avec Ghéhazi, serviteur de l’homme de Dieu, et lui disait: "Fais-moi donc le récit des grandes choses accomplies par Elisée."

Now, the king, was speaking unto Gehazi, servant of the man of God, saying, Do recount unto me, I pray thee, all the great things that Elisha hath done.

5 Tandis qu’il racontait au roi le fait de la résurrection du mort, voici que la femme dont le fils avait été rappelé à la vie vint implorer justice pour sa maison et son champ. Ghéhazi dit: "Mon seigneur le roi, tu vois là la femme en personne et son fils qu’Elisée a rendu à la vie."

And so it was, just as he was recounting to the king how he had restored the dead to life, lo! the woman whose son he had restored to life, began making outcry unto the king, for her house and for her field. Then said Gehazi, My lord, O king! this, is the woman, and, this, her son, whom, Elisha, restored to life.

6 Le roi interrogea la femme, qui lui raconta tout, et le roi la fit accompagner par un officier avec cette mission: "Qu’on lui restitue tout ce qui lui appartient ainsi que tous les produits donnés par son champ du jour où elle a quitté ce pays jusqu’à cette heure."

So the king asked the woman, and she recounted it to him, —the king, therefore, appointed her a certain officer, saying—Restore all that was hers, and all the increase of the field, from the day she left the land, even until now.

7 Elisée vint à Damas, alors que Ben-Hadad, roi de Syrie, était malade. Le roi en fut informé en ces termes: "L’Homme de Dieu est arrivé en ces lieux."

And Elisha came into Damascus, when Ben-hadad king of Syria, was sick, —and it was told him, saying, The man of God hath come as far as this place.

8 Le roi dit à Hazaël: "Munis-toi d’un présent et va à la rencontre de l’homme de Dieu. Consulte l’Eternel par son entremise pour savoir si je guérirai de cette maladie."

So the king said unto Hazael—Take in thy hand a present, and go to meet the man of God, —so shalt thou enquire of Yahweh, from him, saying, Shall I recover from this sickness?

9 Hazaël alla au-devant d’Elisée, emmenant avec lui un présent composé de tout ce qu’il y avait de meilleur à Damas, une charge de quarante chameaux; il s’avança, et, se présentant à lui, il dit: "Ton fils Ben-Hadad, roi de Syrie, m’a envoyé vers toi et demande: Guérirai-je de ma maladie?"

So Hazael went to meet him, and took a present in his hand, even every good thing of Damascus, forty camels’ burden, —and came, and stood before him, and said—Thy son, Ben-hadad king of Syria, hath sent me unto thee, saying, Shall I recover from this sickness?

10 Elisée lui répondit: "Va lui dire: Tu guériras, mais l’Eternel m’a fait voir que sa mort est certaine."

And Elisha said unto him, Go, say to him, Thou shalt, recover; And yet Yahweh hath shown me, that he will, die.

11 Puis l’homme de Dieu leva ses regards et les tint fixés sur lui jusqu’à le rendre confus; finalement, il se mit à pleurer.

And he settled his countenance, and fixed it until he turned pale, —and the man of God, wept.

12 Hazaël l’interrogea: "Pourquoi, mon seigneur, pleures-tu? C’Est que je sais, répondit-il, combien tu feras de mal aux enfants d’Israël: tu livreras aux flammes leurs forteresses, tu feras périr par l’épée leurs jeunes gens, tu écraseras leurs petits enfants, et tu déchireras le sein de leurs femmes enceintes."

Then said Hazael, Why, is my lord, weeping? And he said—Because I know what thou wilt do to the sons of Israel, by way of harm—Their fortresses, thou wilt set on fire, and, their choice young men, with the sword, thou wilt slay, and, their children, thou wilt dash in pieces, and, their women with child, thou wilt rip up.

13 Hazaël répliqua: "Mais qu’est donc ton serviteur, ce simple chien, pour accomplir ces hauts faits? C’Est que, répondit Elisée, l’Eternel t’a montré à moi régnant sur la Syrie."

And Hazael said, But what is thy servant—the dog—that he should do this great thing? And Elisha said, Yahweh hath shown thee unto me, as king over Syria.

14 Il prit congé d’Elisée et revint auprès de son maître, qui lui demanda: "Que t’a dit Elisée? Il m’a dit que tu guérirais," répondit-il.

So he departed from Elisha, and came in unto his lord, who said to him, What said, Elisha, unto thee? And he said. He told me thou wouldst, recover.

15 Le lendemain, il prit la couverture, la trempa dans l’eau et l’étendit sur la figure du roi, de sorte qu’il mourut. Hazaël s’empara de la royauté à sa place.

But it came to pass on the morrow, that he took the coverlet, and dipped it in water, and spread it over his face, that he died, —and, Hazael, reigned, in his stead.

16 La cinquième année du règne de Joram, fils d’Achab (roi d’Israël alors que Josaphat était roi de Juda), Joram, fils de Josaphat, devint roi de Juda.

Now, in the fifth year of Joram son of Ahab, king of Israel, Jehoshaphat, having been king of Judah, Jehoram, son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, began to reign.

17 Agé de trente-deux ans à son avènement, il régna huit ans à Jérusalem.

Thirty-two years old, was he when he began to reign, and, eight years, reigned, he in Jerusalem.

18 Il suivit la conduite des rois d’Israël, agissant comme la maison d’Achab; car il avait pris pour femme une fille d’Achab. Il fit donc ce qui est mal aux yeux de l’Eternel.

And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, just as did the house of Ahab, for, a daughter of Ahab, became his wife, —and he did the thing that was wicked in the eyes of Yahweh.

19 Cependant le Seigneur, en faveur de David, son serviteur, ne voulut pas détruire Juda, fidèle à la promesse qu’il lui avait faite de lui assurer à jamais un domaine à lui et à ses descendants.

Yet was not Yahweh willing to destroy Judah, for the sake of David his servant, —even as he promised him to give him a lamp for his sons all the days.

20 De son temps, Edom, faisant défection, se rendit indépendant de Juda et se donna un roi.

In his days, did Edom revolt from under the hand of Judah, —and they set over them a king.

21 Joram passa à Çaïr, avec toute sa cavalerie. En pleine nuit, il se leva pour attaquer les Iduméens qui le cernaient lui et les chefs de la cavalerie, mais le peuple chercha un refuge dans ses tentes.

So Joram passed over to Zair, and all the chariots with him, —and it came to pass that, he, arising by night, smote the Edomites that were round about unto him, and the captains of the chariots, and the people fled to their homes,

22 Edom secoua ainsi la domination de Juda jusqu’à ce jour; à la même époque, Libna se rendit également indépendante.

Yet did Edom revolt from under the hand of Judah, unto this day, —then, revolted Libnah, at the same time.

23 Le reste de l’histoire de Joram et ses faits et gestes sont consignés dans le livre des annales des rois de Juda.

Now, the rest of the story of Joram, and all that he did, are, they, not written in the book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?

24 Joram s’endormit avec ses pères, et fut enseveli à côté d’eux dans la Cité de David. Achazia, son fils, lui succéda.

And Joram slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers, in the city of David, —and, Ahaziah his son, reigned, in his stead.

25 La douzième année du règne de Joram, fils d’Achab, roi d’Israël, Achazia, fils de Joram, devint roi de Juda.

In the twelfth year of Joram son of Ahab king of Israel, did Ahaziah son of Jehoram king of Judah, begin to reign.

26 Achazia avait vingt-deux ans à son avènement, et il régna un an à Jérusalem. Le nom de sa mère était Athalie; elle était fille d’Omri, roi d’Israël.

Two and twenty years old, was Ahaziah when he began to reign, —and, one year, reigned he in Jerusalem, —and, his mother’s name, was Athaliah, daughter of Omri, king of Israel;

27 Il imita la conduite de la maison d’Achab, faisant, comme elle, ce qui est mal aux yeux de l’Eternel, en digne allié de la maison d’Achab.

And he walked in the way of the house of Ahab, and did the thing that was wicked in the eyes of Yahweh, like the house of Ahab, —for, son-in-law of the house of Ahab, was, he.

28 Il fit, de concert avec Joram, fils d’Achab, une expédition militaire contre Hazaël, roi de Syrie, du côté de Ramot-Galaad; las Syriens blessèrent Joram.

And he went with Joram son of Ahab, to make war against Hazael king of Syria, in Ramoth-gilead, —and the Syrians wounded Joram.

29 Alors le roi Joram s’en retourna chez lui, pour se remettre à Jezreël des blessures que lui avaient infligées les Syriens à Rama, lors de sa campagne contre Hazaël, roi de Syrie. Achazia, fils de Joram, roi de Juda, descendit pour rendre visite à Joram, fils d’Achab, à Jezreël, au cours de sa maladie.

So Joram the king returned to get healed in Jezreel, from the wounds wherewith the Syrians had wounded him in Ramah, when he fought with Hazael king of Syria, —and, Ahaziah son of Jehoram king of Judah, went down to see Joram son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he, was sick.
