2 Chroniques 16
1 La trente-sixième du règne d’Asa, Baasa, roi d’Israël, étant venu attaquer Juda, fortifia Rama, pour ne pas laisser l’entrée libre à Asa, roi de Juda.
In the sixe and thirtieth yeere of the reigne of Asa came Baasha king of Israel vp against Iudah, and built Ramah to let none passe out or goe in to Asa king of Iudah.
2 Alors Asa sortit de l’argent et de l’or des trésors de la maison du Seigneur et de la maison du roi, et les envoya à Ben-Hadad, roi de Syrie, résidant à Damas, avec ces paroles:
Then Asa brought out siluer and gold out of the treasures of the house of the Lord, and of the Kings house, and sent to Benhadad King of Aram that dwelt at Damascus, saying,
3 "Toi et moi soyons alliés, comme mon père fut allié du tien. Je t’envoie de l’argent et de l’or, afin que tu rompes ton alliance avec Baasa, roi d’Israël, et qu’il se retire de chez moi."
There is a couenant betweene me and thee, and betweene my father and thy father: behold, I haue sent thee siluer and golde: come, breake thy league with Baasha King of Israel that hee may depart from me.
4 Ben-Hadad, accédant à la demande du roi Asa, envoya ses généraux contre les villes d’Israël. Ils prirent de vive force Iyyôn, Dan, Abel-Mayim et tous les magasins d’approvisionnement des villes de Nephtali.
And Benhadad hearkened vnto King Asa, and sent the captaines of the armies which hee had, against the cities of Israel. And they smote Iion, and Dan, and Abel-maim, and all the store cities of Naphtali.
5 Lorsque Baasa en fut informé, il renonça à fortifier Rama et arrêta ses travaux.
And when Baasha heard it, he left building of Ramah, and let his worke cease.
6 Le roi Asa fit venir tout Juda pour enlever les pierres et le bois destinés aux constructions de Baasa, et il s’en servit pour fortifier Ghéba et Miçpa.
Then Asa the King tooke all Iudah, and caryed away the stones of Ramah and the tymber thereof, wherewith Baasha did builde, and he built therewith Geba and Mizpah.
7 A cette époque, Hanani le Voyant alla trouver Asa, roi de Juda, et lui dit: "Puisque tu t’es appuyé sur le roi de Syrie au lieu de t’appuyer sur l’Eternel, ton Dieu, l’armée du roi de Syrie s’est échappée de tes mains.
And at that same time Hanani the Seer came to Asa King of Iudah, and saide vnto him, Because thou hast rested vpon the king of Aram, and not rested in the Lord thy God, therefore is the hoste of the King of Aram escaped out of thine hande.
8 Assurément, les Ethiopiens et les Libyens formaient une armée considérable, disposant de chars et de cavaliers extrêmement nombreux, et parce que tu as cherché ton appui en l’Eternel, il les a livrés en ton pouvoir.
The Ethiopians and the Lubims, were they not a great hoste with charets and horsemen, exceeding many? yet because thou diddest rest vpon the Lord, he deliuered them into thine had.
9 C’Est que l’Eternel promène ses regards sur toute la terre, pour soutenir ceux dont le cœur lui appartient entièrement. Tu as agi follement en cette occurrence. Aussi désormais tu ne cesseras d’être en guerre."
For the eyes of the Lord beholde all the earth to shewe him selfe strong with them that are of perfite heart towarde him: thou hast then done foolishly in this: therefore from henceforth thou shalt haue warres.
10 Asa s’emporta contre le Voyant et le fit jeter en prison, tant il était courroucé contre lui pour ce discours. Asa maltraita aussi une partie du peuple à ce moment.
Then Asa was wroth with the Seer, and put him into a prison: for he was displeased with him, because of this thing. And Asa oppressed certaine of the people at the same time.
11 Or, l’histoire d’Asa, du commencement à la fin, est consignée dans le Livre des Rois de Juda et d’Israël.
And behold, the actes of Asa first and last, loe, they are written in the booke of the Kings of Iudah and Israel.
12 La trente-neuvième année de son règne, Asa eut les pieds malades. Cette maladie fut extrêmement grave; pourtant, même dans sa maladie il ne s’adressa pas à l’Eternel, mais aux médecins.
And Asa in the nine and thirtieth yeere of his reigne was diseased in his feete, and his disease was extreme: yet he sought not the Lord in his disease, but to the Phisicions.
13 Asa s’endormit avec ses pères; il mourut dans la quarante-unième année de son règne.
So Asa slept with his fathers, and dyed in the one and fourtieth yeere of his reigne.
14 On l’ensevelit dans les chambres funéraires qu’il s’était creusées dans la Cité de David, on le déposa sur la couche qui avait été garnie d’aromates et de parfums, préparés selon l’art des parfumeurs; et l’on alluma en son honneur un très grand bûcher.
And they buryed him in one of his sepulchres, which he had made for him selfe in the citie of Dauid, and layed him in the bed, which they had filled with sweete odours and diuers kindes of spices made by the arte of the apoticarie: and they burnt odours for him with an exceeding great fire.
