1 Samuel 22

1 David partit de ce lieu et alla se réfugier dans la caverne d’Adoullam. Ses frères et toute sa famille paternelle, l’ayant appris, y descendirent auprès de lui.

David therefore departed from there, and escaped to the cave of Adullam. And when his brothers and all his father's house heard it, they went down there to him.

2 A lui se joignirent aussi tout homme en détresse, tous ceux qui avaient des créanciers, tous les désespérés; il devint leur chef. Environ quatre cents hommes se groupèrent autour de lui.

And every man who was in distress, and every man who was in debt, and every man who was discontented, gathered themselves to him, and he became captain over them. And there were with him about four hundred men.

3 De là, David se rendit à Miçpé-Moab, et il dit au roi de Moab "Permets que mon père et ma mère aillent demeurer chez vous, jusqu’à ce que je sache ce que Dieu décidera de moi."

And David went from there to Mizpeh of Moab, and he said to the king of Moab, Let my father and my mother, I pray thee, come forth, and be with you, till I know what God will do for me.

4 Il les conduisit donc devant le roi de Moab, chez qui ils demeurèrent tout le temps que David passa dans le fort.

And he brought them before the king of Moab, and they dwelt with him all the while that David was in the stronghold.

5 Gad, le prophète, dit à David: "Ne reste pas dans le fort; va-t’en et rends-toi au pays de Juda." David s’en alla et arriva au bois de Héreth.

And the prophet Gad said to David, Abide not in the stronghold. Depart, and get thee into the land of Judah. Then David departed, and came into the forest of Hereth.

6 Or, Saül apprit qu’on avait découvert David et ceux qui l’accompagnaient. Saül était alors à Ghibea, assis sous le tamarisc, sur la hauteur, sa lance à la main, tous ses serviteurs debout près de lui.

And Saul heard that David was discovered, and the men who were with him. Now Saul was sitting in Gibeah, under the tamarisk tree in Ramah with his spear in his hand, and all his servants were standing about him.

7 Et Saül dit à ses serviteurs qui se tenaient près de lui: "Ecoutez, ô Benjamites! Est-ce que le fils de Jessé vous donnera à tous des champs et des vignes? Fera-t-il de vous tous des chefs de mille, des chefs de cent?

And Saul said to his servants who stood about him, Hear now, ye Benjamites. Will the son of Jesse give every one of you fields and vineyards? Will he make you all captains of thousands and captains of hundreds,

8 Car vous vous êtes tous ligués contre moi, personne ne m’a révélé le pacte de mon fils avec le fils de Jessé, nul d’entre vous ne s’inquiète de moi, ne me révèle rien, alors que mon fils me suscite dans mon serviteur un traître, comme en ce jour!"

that all of you have conspired against me, and there is none who discloses to me when my son makes a league with the son of Jesse? And there is none of you who is sorry for me, or discloses to me that my son has stirred up my servant against me, to lie in wait, as at this day.

9 Doëg l’lduméen, qui était préposé aux serviteurs de Saül, prit la parole et dit: "J’Ai vu le fils de Jessé venir à Nob, chez Ahimélec, fils d’Ahitoub,

Then answered Doeg the Edomite, who stood by the servants of Saul, and said, I saw the son of Jesse coming to Nob, to Ahimelech the son of Ahitub.

10 qui a consulté pour lui le Seigneur, lui a donné des provisions, lui a remis aussi le glaive de Goliath, le Philistin."

And he inquired of Jehovah for him, and gave him food, and gave him the sword of Goliath the Philistine.

11 Le roi fit appeler Ahimélec, fils d’Ahitoub, le prêtre, et tous les prêtres de sa famille, résidant à Nob, et tous vinrent chez le roi.

Then the king sent to call Ahimelech the priest, the son of Ahitub, and all his father's house, the priests who were in Nob. And they came to the king, all of them.

12 Et Saül dit: "Ecoute, fils d’Ahitoub!" Il répondit: "Je suis prêt, Seigneur."

And Saul said, Hear now, thou son of Ahitub. And he answered, Here I am, my lord.

13 Et Saül lui dit: "Pourquoi t’es-tu ligué contre moi avec le fils de Jessé, en lui donnant du pain et une épée et en consultant Dieu à son intention, pour qu’il se levât traîtreusement contre moi comme en ce jour?"

And Saul said to him, Why have ye conspired against me, thou and the son of Jesse, in that thou have given him bread, and a sword, and have inquired of God for him, that he should rise against me to lie in wait as at this day?

14 Ahimélec répondît au roi: "Eh! Qui, entre tous tes serviteurs, est fidèle comme David, avec cela gendre du roi, soumis à ton autorité, honoré dans ta maison?

Then Ahimelech answered the king, and said, And who among all thy servants is so faithful as David, who is the king's son-in-law, and is taken into thy council, and is honorable in thy house?

15 Est-ce aujourd’hui que j’aurais commencé à interroger pour lui le Seigneur? Loin de moi! Que le roi n’impute aucun tort à son serviteur, à personne de ma famille, car ton serviteur ne sait rien de tout cela, ni peu ni prou."

Have I today begun to inquire of God for him? Be it far from me. Let not the king impute anything to his servant, nor to all the house of my father, for thy servant knows nothing of all this, less or more.

16 Certes, dit le roi, tu mourras, Ahimélec, toi et toute ta famille!"

And the king said, Thou shall surely die, Ahimelech, thou, and all thy father's house.

17 Et le roi dit aux satellites qui l’entouraient: "Approchez, et mettez à mort les prêtres du Seigneur, car ils sont complices de David; ils savaient qu’il était en fuite et ne l’ont pas dénoncé." Mais les serviteurs du roi n’osèrent pas frapper et porter la main sur les prêtres du Seigneur.

And the king said to the guard who stood about him, Turn, and kill the priests of Jehovah, because their hand also is with David, and because they knew that he fled, and did not disclose it to me. But the servants of the king would not put forth their hand to fall upon the priests of Jehovah.

18 Et le roi dit à Doëg: "Approche, toi, et frappe les prêtres!" Et Doëg l’lduméen s’approcha et frappa les prêtres. Il fit mourir, ce jour-là, quatre-vingt-cinq hommes portant l’éphod de lin.

And the king said to Doeg, Turn thou, and fall upon the priests. And Doeg the Edomite turned, and he fell upon the priests, and he killed on that day eighty-five persons who wore a linen ephod.

19 Et Nob, la ville des prêtres, fut passée au fil de l’épée; hommes et femmes, jusqu’aux petits enfants et aux nourrissons, bœufs et ânes, menu bétail, tout au fil de l’épée.

And Nob, the city of the priests, he smote with the edge of the sword, both men and women, sons and sucklings, and oxen and donkeys and sheep, with the edge of the sword.

20 Il n’échappa qu’un fils d’Ahimélec, fils d’Ahitoub, nommé Ebiatar, qui s’enfuit, rejoignant David.

And one of the sons of Ahimelech, the son of Ahitub, named Abiathar, escaped, and fled after David.

21 Ebiatar apprit à David que Saül avait fait périr les prêtres du Seigneur.

And Abiathar told David that Saul had slain Jehovah's priests.

22 Et David dit à Ebiatar: "Je savais, ce jour-là, Doëg l’Iduméen étant présent, qu’il me dénoncerait à Saül. C’Est moi qui ai fait le malheur de toute ta famille.

And David said to Abiathar, I knew on that day, when Doeg the Edomite was there, that he would surely tell Saul. I have occasioned the death of all the persons of thy father's house.

23 Demeure avec moi, ne crains rien. Qui en veut à ma vie en voudra à la tienne, mais tu es en sûreté auprès de moi."

Abide thou with me. Fear not, for he who seeks my life seeks thy life, for with me thou shall be in safeguard.
