1 Lorsque Salomon eut achevé de bâtir la maison du Seigneur, ainsi que la demeure royale et tout ce qu’il avait désiré et projeté de faire,
And it cometh to pass, at Solomon's finishing to build the house of Jehovah, and the house of the king, and all the desire of Solomon that he delighted to do,
2 le Seigneur apparut une seconde fois à Salomon, comme il lui était apparu à Gabaon,
that Jehovah appeareth unto Solomon a second time, as He appeared unto him in Gibeon,
3 et lui dit: "J’Accueille ta prière et la supplication que tu m’as adressée: cette maison que tu as bâtie, je la sanctifie en y faisant régner mon nom à jamais, en y dirigeant constamment mes yeux et ma pensée.
and Jehovah saith unto him, 'I have heard thy prayer and thy supplication with which thou hast made supplication before Me; I have hallowed this house that thou hast built to put My name there — unto the age, and Mine eyes and My heart have been there all the days.
4 Pour toi, si tu marches devant moi comme a marché David, ton père, avec un cœur droit et sincère, en te conformant à tout ce que je t’ai prescrit, en gardant mes lois et mes statuts,
'And thou — if thou dost walk before Me as David thy father walked, in simplicity of heart, and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded thee — My statutes and My judgments thou dost keep —
5 je maintiendrai à jamais ta royauté sur Israël, ainsi que je l’ai promis à David, ton père, en disant: Aucun des tiens ne sera jamais exclu du trône d’Israël.
then I have established the throne of thy kingdom over Israel — to the age, as I spake unto David thy father, saying, There is not cut off to thee a man from [being] on the throne of Israel.
6 Mais si vous vous détournez de moi, vous et vos descendants, si vous négligez d’observer mes préceptes, les lois que je vous ai données, et que vous alliez servir des dieux étrangers et vous prosterner devant eux,
'If ye at all turn back — you and your sons — from after Me, and keep not My commands — My statutes, that I have set before you, and ye have gone and served other gods, and bowed yourselves to them,
7 je ferai disparaître Israël de la face du pays que je lui ai donné; cette maison, que j’ai consacrée à mon nom, je la répudierai, et Israël deviendra la fable et la dérision de tous les peuples;
then I have cut off Israel from the face of the ground that I have given to them, and the house that I have hallowed for My name I send away from My presence, and Israel hath been for a simile and for a byword among all the peoples;
8 et cette maison placée à un si haut rang ne produira plus, chez tout venant, que stupeur et raillerie; et quand on dira: "Pourquoi le Seigneur a-t-il traité ainsi ce pays et ce temple?"
as to this house, [that] is high, every one passing by it is astonished, and hath hissed, and they have said, Wherefore hath Jehovah done thus to this land and to this house?
9 On répondra: "Parce qu’ils ont abandonné le Seigneur, leur Dieu, qui avait délivré leurs pères de l’Egypte, ont adopté des divinités étrangères, les ont servies et adorées, c’est pour cela que le Seigneur leur a suscité tous ces malheurs."
and they have said, Because that they have forsaken Jehovah their God, who brought out their fathers from the land of Egypt, and they lay hold on other gods, and bow themselves to them, and serve them; therefore hath Jehovah brought in upon them all this evil.'
10 Or, au bout des vingt ans employés par Salomon à construire les deux maisons, la maison du Seigneur et celle du roi,
And it cometh to pass, at the end of twenty years, that Solomon hath built the two houses, the house of Jehovah, and the house of the king.
11 Hiram, roi de Tyr, ayant fourni à Salomon le bois de cèdre, le bois de cyprès, l’or et tout ce qu’il désirait, le roi Salomon donna à Hiram vingt villes de la province de Galilée.
Hiram king of Tyre hath assisted Solomon with cedar-trees, and with fir-trees, and with gold, according to all his desire; then doth king Solomon give to Hiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee.
12 Hiram sortit de Tyr pour examiner les villes que Salomon lui avait données; elles ne lui plurent point:
And Hiram cometh out from Tyre to see the cities that Solomon hath given to him, and they have not been right in his eyes,
13 "Qu’est-ce que ces villes, dit-il, que tu m’as données, mon frère?" Et il les appela le pays de Kaboul, nom qu’elles portent encore aujourd’hui.
and he saith, 'What [are] these cities that thou hast given to me, my brother?' and one calleth them the land of Cabul unto this day.
14 Hiram envoya au roi cent vingt kikkar d’or.
And Hiram sendeth to the king a hundred and twenty talents of gold.
15 Le but de l’impôt qu’avait levé le roi Salomon était de construire la maison de l’Eternel et sa propre maison, plus le Millo, la muraille de Jérusalem, Haçor, Meghiddo et Ghézer.
And this [is] the matter of the tribute that king Solomon hath lifted up, to build the house of Jehovah, and his own house, and Millo, and the wall of Jerusalem, and Hazor, and Megiddo, and Gezer,
16 Car Pharaon, roi d’Egypte, avait fait une incursion, s’était emparé de Ghézer, l’avait incendiée, avait fait périr les Cananéens habitant cette ville, et l’avait donnée en dot à sa fille, épouse de Salomon.
(Pharaoh king of Egypt hath gone up and doth capture Gezer, and doth burn it with fire, and the Canaanite who is dwelling in the city he hath slain, and giveth it [with] presents to his daughter, wife of Solomon.)
17 Et Salomon rebâtit Ghézer, ainsi que le Beth-Horôn inférieur,
And Solomon buildeth Gezer, and Beth-Horon the lower,
18 Baalat, le Tadmor du désert dans le même pays;
and Baalath, and Tadmor in the wilderness, in the land;
19 plus toutes les villes d’approvisionnement de Salomon, les villes des chariots, celles des cavaliers, bref, ce qu’il plaisait à Salomon de construire à Jérusalem, au Liban et dans tout le pays soumis à sa domination.
and all the cities of stores that king Solomon hath, and the cities of the chariots, and the cities of the horsemen, and the desire of Solomon that he desired to build in Jerusalem, and in Lebanon, and in all the land of his dominion.
20 Toute la population survivante des Amorréens, des Héthéens, des Phérézéens, des Hévéens et des Jébuséens, lesquels ne font point partie des enfants d’Israël,
The whole of the people that is left of the Amorite, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite, who [are] not of the sons of Israel —
21 tous leurs descendants qui étaient restés après eux dans le pays, les enfants d’Israël n’ayant pu les exterminer, Salomon les obligea à payer tribut; ce qu’ils font encore aujourd’hui.
their sons who are left behind them in the land, whom the sons of Israel have not been able to devote — he hath even lifted up [on] them a tribute of service unto this day.
22 Pour les enfants d’Israël, Salomon n’en employa aucun comme esclave, ils étaient seulement ses hommes de guerre, ses fonctionnaires, ses officiers, capitaines, commandants de ses chars et de sa cavalerie.
And out of the sons of Israel Solomon hath not appointed a servant, for they [are] the men of war, and his servants, and his heads, and his captains, and the heads of his chariots, and his horsemen.
23 Les surveillants en chef des travaux de Salomon étaient au nombre de cinq cent cinquante, chargés de stimuler les travailleurs.
These [are] the heads of the officers who [are] over the work of Solomon, fifty and five hundred, those ruling among the people who are labouring in the work.
24 Quant à la fille de Pharaon, elle se transporta de la Cité de David dans la demeure que Salomon lui avait construite; c’est ensuite qu’il édifia le Millo.
Only, the daughter of Pharaoh went up out of the city of David unto her house that [Solomon] built for her; then he built Millo.
25 Trois fois l’année, Salomon offrait des holocaustes et autres sacrifices sur l’autel qu’il avait élevé au Seigneur; il offrait, en outre, l’encens devant le Seigneur, et il compléta le service du temple.
And Solomon caused to ascend, three times in a year, burnt-offerings and peace-offerings on the altar that he built to Jehovah, and he perfumed it with that which [is] before Jehovah, and finished the house.
26 Le roi Salomon fit aussi construire une flotte à Ecion-Ghéber, qui est près d’Elot, au bord de la mer de Souf, dans le pays d’Edom.
And a navy hath king Solomon made in Ezion-Geber, that is beside Eloth, on the edge of the Sea of Suph, in the land of Edom.
27 Hiram envoya sur ces vaisseaux ses serviteurs, matelots experts dans la marine, pour aider les serviteurs de Salomon.
And Hiram sendeth in the navy his servants, shipmen knowing the sea, with servants of Solomon,
28 Ils arrivèrent à Ofir et en rapportèrent quatre cent vingt kikkar d’or, qu’ils remirent au roi Salomon.
and they come in to Ophir and take thence gold, four hundred and twenty talents, and bring [it] in unto king Solomon.
