1 Le roi Salomon régna donc sur tout Israël.
And king Solomon was king over all Israel.
2 Et voici quels furent ses fonctionnaires: Azaryahou, fils de Çadok, le pontife:
And these were the princes which he had; Azariah the son of Zadok, the priest;
3 Elihoref et Ahiyya, fils de Chicha, secrétaires; Josaphat, fils d’Ahiloud, archiviste;
Elihoreph and Ahijah, the sons of Shisha, scribes; Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud, the recorder;
4 Benaïahou, fils de Joïada, chef de l’armée; Çadok et Ebiathar, prêtres;
and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the host; and Zadok and Abiathar were priests;
5 Azaryahou, fils de Nathan, surintendant; Zaboud, fils de Nathan; prêtre, conseiller intime du roi;
and Azariah the son of Nathan was over the officers; and Zabud the son of Nathan was priest, [and] the king’s friend;
6 Ahichar, préposé au palais, et Adoniram, fils d’Abda, à l’impôt.
and Ahishar was over the household; and Adoniram the son of Abda was over the levy.
7 Douze intendants représentaient Salomon en Israël, chargés de l’entretien du roi et de sa maison; chacun d’eux remplissait cette charge pendant un mois de l’année.
And Solomon had twelve officers over all Israel, which provided victuals for the king and his household: each man had to make provision for a month in the year:
8 Et voici leurs noms: Ben-Hour, exerçant sa fonction dans la montagne d’Ephraïm;
And these are their names: Ben-hur, in the hill country of Ephraim:
9 Ben-Déker, à Mâquaç, à Schaalbim, à Bêth-Chémech et à Elôn-bêth-Hanan;
Ben-deker, in Makaz, and in Shaalbim, and Beth-shemesh, and Elon-beth-hanan:
10 Ben-Héced, à Aroubbot, gouvernant Sokho et tout le canton de Hêfer;
Ben-hesed, in Arubboth; to him [pertained] Socoh, and all the land of Hepher:
11 Ben-Abinadab, ayant toute la région de Dor (il avait épousé Tafat, fille de Salomon);
Ben-abinadab, in all the height of Dor; he had Taphath the daughter of Solomon to wife:
12 Baana, fils d’Ahiloud, à Taanakh, à Meghiddo, et dans tout Bêth-Cheân, qui est près de Çarethân, au-dessous de Jezreël, depuis Bêth-Cheân jusqu’à la plaine de Mehola et jusqu’au delà de Yokmeâm;
Baana the son of Ahilud, in Taanach and Megiddo, and all Beth-shean which is beside Zarethan, beneath Jezreel, from Beth-shean to Abel-meholah, as far as beyond Jokmeam:
13 Ben-Ghéber, à Ramot-Galaad, avait les bourgs de Jaïr, fils de Manassé, qui sont situés en Galaad; il avait aussi le district d’Argob, dans le Basan, comprenant soixante grandes villes, avec murailles et verrous d’airain;
Ben-geber, in Ramoth-gilead; to him [pertained] the towns of Jair the son of Manasseh, which are in Gilead; [even] to him [pertained] the region of Argob, which is in Bashan, threescore great cities with walls and brasen bars:
14 Ahinadab, fils d’Iddo, à Mahanaïm;
Ahinadab the son of Iddo, in Mahanaim:
15 Ahimaaç, en Nephtali; il avait, lui aussi, épousé une fille de Salomon, Basmat;
Ahimaaz, in Naphtali; he also took Basemath the daughter of Solomon to wife:
16 Baana, fils de Houchaï, en Aser et à Bealot;
Baana the son of Hushai, in Asher and Bealoth:
17 Josaphat, fils de Parouah, en Issachar;
Jehoshaphat the son of Paruah, in Issachar:
18 Séméi, fils d’Ela, en Benjamin;
Shimei the son of Ela, in Benjamin:
19 Ghéber, fils d’Ouri, au pays de Galaad, territoire de Sihôn, roi des Amorréens, et d’Og, roi du Basan; il y avait un seul intendant pour cette contrée.
Geber the son of Uri, in the land of Gilead, the country of Sihon king of the Amorites and of Og king of Bashan; and [he was] the only officer which was in the land.
20 Juda et Israël étaient nombreux comme les grains de sable de l’Océan; on mangeait, on buvait et on était tout à la joie.
Judah and Israel were many, as the sand which is by the sea in multitude, eating and drinking and making merry.
21 Salomon avait autorité sur tous les pays situés entre le Fleuve et le pays des Philistins, jusqu’à la frontière d’Egypte; ils lui apportaient des présents et lui restèrent soumis toute sa vie durant.
And Solomon ruled over all the kingdoms from the River unto the land of the Philistines, and unto the border of Egypt: they brought presents, and served Solomon all the days of his life.
22 L’Entretien de Salomon exigeait chaque jour: trente kôr de fleur de farine et soixante kôr de farine commune;
And Solomon’s provision for one day was thirty measures of fine flour, and threescore measures of meal;
23 dix bœufs engraissés, vingt de libre pâture et cent pièces de menu bétail, sans compter les cerfs, chevreuils, daims et volailles grasses.
ten fat oxen, and twenty oxen out of the pastures, and an hundred sheep, beside harts, and gazelles, and roebucks, and fatted fowl.
24 Car il commandait à tout le pays en deçà du Fleuve et à tous les rois de cette région, depuis Tifsah jusqu’à Gaza, et était en paix avec tous ses voisins d’alentour.
For he had dominion over all [the region] on this side the River, from Tipsah even to Gaza, over all the kings on this side the River: and he had peace on all sides round about him.
25 Juda et Israël, pendant toute la vie de Salomon, demeurèrent en sécurité, chacun sous sa vigne et sous son figuier, depuis Dan jusqu’à Bersabée.
And Judah and Israel dwelt safely, every man under his vine and under his fig tree, from Dan even to Beer-sheba, all the days of Solomon.
26 Salomon avait quarante mille attelages de chevaux pour ses chars et douze mille chevaux de selle.
And Solomon had forty thousand stalls of horses for his chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen.
27 Les intendants en question, chacun dans son mois, pourvoyaient le roi Salomon et tous ceux qui étaient admis à sa table, sans les laisser manquer de rien.
And those officers provided victual for king Solomon, and for all that came unto king Solomon’s table, every man in his month: they let nothing be lacking.
28 L’Orge et la paille destinées aux chevaux et autres montures, ils les amenaient, chacun selon sa consigne, à l’endroit où se trouvait le roi.
Barley also and straw for the horses and swift steeds brought they unto the place where [the officers] were, every man according to his charge.
29 Or, Dieu avait donné à Salomon un très haut degré de sagesse et d’intelligence, et une compréhension aussi vaste que le sable qui est au bord de la mer.
And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding exceeding much, and largeness of heart, even as the sand that is on the sea shore.
30 La sagesse de Salomon était plus grande que celle de tous les Orientaux, plus grande que toute la sagesse des Egyptiens.
And Solomon’s wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the children of the east, and all the wisdom of Egypt.
31 Plus savant que tout homme, plus qu’Ethan l’Ezrahite, que Hêman, Kalkol et Darda, les fils de Mahol, sa renommée s’étendit chez tous les peuples voisins.
For he was wiser than all men; than Ethan the Ezrahite, and Heman, and Calcol, and Darda, the sons of Mahol: and his fame was in all the nations round about.
32 Il composa trois mille paraboles, mille cinq poésies;
And he spake three thousand proverbs: and his songs were a thousand and five.
33 discourut sur les végétaux, depuis le cèdre du Liban jusqu’à l’hysope qui rampe sur la muraille; discourut sur les quadrupèdes, les oiseaux, les reptiles et les poissons.
And he spake of trees, from the cedar that is in Lebanon even unto the hyssop that springeth out of the wall: he spake also of beasts, and of fowl, and of creeping things, and of fishes.
34 On venait de chez tous les peuples pour se rendre compte de la sagesse de Salomon, de la part de tous les rois de la terre qui avaient entendu parler de sa sagesse.
And there came of all peoples to hear the wisdom of Solomon, from all kings of the earth, which had heard of his wisdom.
