1 Rois 11

1 Or, le roi Salomon aima, indépendamment de la fille de Pharaon, un grand nombre de femmes étrangères, Moabites, Ammonites, Iduméennes, Sidoniennes, Héthéennes,

And king Solomon was a lover of women. And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines. And he took strange women, as well as the daughter of Pharao, Moabitish, Ammanitish women, Syrians and Idumeans, Chettites, and Amorites;

2 d’entre ces peuples dont l’Eternel avait dit aux enfants d’Israël: "Ne vous mêlez point à eux et ne les laissez point se mêler à vous, car certes ils attireraient votre cœur à leurs divinités"; c’est là que Salomon porta ses amours.

of the nations concerning whom the Lord forbade the children of Israel, [saying], You shall not go in to them, and they shall not come in to you, lest they turn away your hearts after their idols: Solomon clave to these in love.

3 Il eut sept cents épouses attitrées et trois cents concubines, et ces femmes égarèrent son cœur.

4 C’Est au temps de sa vieillesse que les femmes de Salomon entraînèrent son cœur vers des dieux étrangers, de sorte que son cœur n’appartint point sans réserve à l’Eternel, son Dieu, comme le cœur de David, son père.

And it came to pass in the time of the old age of Solomon, that his heart was not perfect with the Lord his God, as [was] the heart of David his father. And the strange women turned away his heart after their gods. Then Solomon built a high place to Chamos the idol of Moab, and to their king the idol of the children of Ammon,

5 Il servit Astarté, la divinité des Sidoniens, et Milkom, l’impure idole des Ammonites.

and to Astarte the abomination of the Sidonians.

6 Bref, Salomon fit ce qui déplaît au Seigneur, loin de lui rester fidèle comme avait fait David, son père.

And thus he acted towards all his strange wives, who burnt incense and sacrificed to their idols. And Solomon did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord: he went not after the Lord, as David his father.

7 En ce temps, Salomon bâtit un haut-lieu pour Khamos, idole de Moab, sur la montagne qui fait face à Jérusalem, et un autre à Moloch, idole des Ammonites.

8 Et ainsi fit-il pour toutes ses femmes étrangères, qui purent brûler de l’encens à leurs dieux et leur offrir des sacrifices.

9 L’Eternel se courrouça contre Salomon, parce que son cœur était devenu infidèle au Seigneur, Dieu d’Israël, qui lui était apparu par deux fois,

And the Lord was angry with Solomon, because he turned away his heart from the Lord God of Israel, who had appeared twice to him,

10 et lui avait donné ses ordres sur ce point pour l’empêcher de suivre les dieux étrangers; mais il n’avait pas obéi aux ordres de l’Eternel.

and charged him concerning this matter, by no means to go after other gods, but to take heed to do what the Lord God commanded him; neither was his heart perfect with the Lord, according to the heart of David his father.

11 Et l’Eternel dit à Salomon: "Puisque tu as agi de la sorte, que tu n’as pas respecté mon pacte et les défenses que je t’avais faites, je t’arracherai la royauté et je la donnerai à ton serviteur.

And the Lord said to Solomon, Because it has been thus with you, and you have not kept my commandments and my ordinances which I commanded you, I will surely rend your kingdom out of your hand, and give it to your servant.

12 Toutefois, pour l’amour de ton père David, je n’accomplirai pas cette menace de ton vivant: c’est de la main de ton fils que je l’arracherai.

Only in your days I will not do it for David your father's sake: [but] I will take it out of the hand of your son.

13 Je ne lui arracherai cependant pas le royaume entier, je lui laisserai une tribu, en faveur de mon serviteur David et de Jérusalem, ma ville d’élection."

Only I will not take away the whole kingdom: I will give one tribe to your son for David my servant's sake, and for the sake of Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen.

14 Le Seigneur suscita un ennemi à Salomon: ce fut Hadad l’Iduméen, qui était de la race royale d’Idumée.

And the Lord raised up an enemy to Solomon, Ader the Idumaean, and Esrom son of Eliadae who [lived] in Raama, [and] Adadezer king of Suba his master; (and men gathered to him, and he was head of the conspiracy, and he seized on Damasec, ) and they were adversaries to Israel all the days of Solomon: and Ader the Idumaean [was] of the seed royal in Idumaea.

15 Quand David fut en Idumée, où Joab, chef de l’armée, monta pour enterrer les morts, et qu’il eut fait périr tout Iduméen mâle,

And it happened, that while David was utterly destroying Edom, while Joab captain of the host was going to bury the dead, when they killed every male in Idumaea;

16 (car Joab était resté là six mois, avec tout Israël, jusqu’à l’extermination de tous les mâles de l’Idumée),

(for Joab and all Israel abode there six months in Idumaea, until he utterly destroyed every male in Idumaea; )

17 Hadad s’enfuit, avec quelques Iduméens, serviteurs de son père, pour se rendre en Egypte. Hadad était alors un jeune garçon.

that Ader ran away, he and all the Idumaeans of the servants of his father with him; and they went into Egypt; and Ader [was then] a little child.

18 Ils partirent de Madian, atteignirent Pharan, d’où ils emmenèrent encore des gens, et arrivèrent en Egypte auprès de Pharaon, roi de ce pays, qui lui donna une maison, lui assura des aliments et lui fit présent d’une terre.

And there rise up men out of the city of Madiam, and they come to Pharan, and take men with them, and come to Pharao king of Egypt: and Ader went in to Pharao, and he gave him a house, and appointed him provision.

19 Hadad plaisait fort à Pharaon, qui lui fit épouser la sœur de sa femme, la sœur de la princesse Tahpenès.

And Ader found great favor in the sight of Pharao, and he gave him his wife's sister in marriage, the elder sister of Thekemina.

20 La sœur de Tahpenès lui donna un fils, Ghenoubat, que Tahpenès fit sevrer dans la maison de Pharaon; Ghenoubat demeura dans cette maison avec les enfants de Pharaon.

And the sister of Thekemina bore to him, [even] to Ader, Ganebath her son; and Thekemina brought him up in the midst of the sons of Pharao, and Ganebath was in the midst of the sons of Pharao.

21 Or, Hadad apprit en Egypte que David reposait avec ses pères et que Joab, chef de l’armée, était mort; et il dit à Pharaon: "Laisse-moi partir, que je retourne dans mon pays."

And Ader heard in Egypt that David slept with his fathers, and that Joab the captain of the host was dead; and Ader said to Pharao, Let me go, and I will return to my country.

22 Pharaon lui répondit: "Mais que te manque-t-il auprès de moi, pour que tu désires rentrer dans ton pays? Rien, dit-il, mais il faut que tu me laisses partir."

And Pharao said to Ader, What lack you with me? that behold! you seek to depart to your country? and Ader said to him, By all means let me go.

23 Dieu lui suscita encore un ennemi: Rezôn, fils d’Elyada, qui s’était enfui de chez Hadadézer, roi de Çoba, son mitre.

So Ader returned to his country; this [is] the mischief which Ader did, and he was a bitter enemy of Israel, and he reigned in the land of Edom.

24 Il rassembla des hommes autour de lui, et devint chef de bande lorsque David les eut défaits; ils allèrent alors à Damas, s’y établirent et y dominèrent.

25 Il fut un ennemi d’Israël tant que vécut Salomon, indépendamment du mal que fit Hadad; il fut hostile à Israël tant qu’il régna sur Aram.

26 Et aussi Jéroboam, fils de Nebat, un Ephratéen de Cerêda, dont la mère une veuve se nommait Ceroua, et qui était serviteur de Salomon, se révolta contre le roi.

And Jeroboam the son of Nabat, the Ephrathite of Sarira, the son of a widow, [was] servant of Solomon.

27 Voici quelle fut l’occasion de cette révolte. Salomon, construisant le Millo, ferma les brèches de la Cité de David, son père.

And this [was] the occasion of his lifting up [his] hands against king Solomon: now king Solomon built the citadel, he completed the fortification of the city of David his father.

28 Or, Jéroboam était plein de valeur, et Salomon, remarquant les qualités de travail de ce jeune homme, lui confia la surveillance des corvées imposées à la maison de Joseph.

And the man Jeroboam was very strong; and Solomon saw the young man that he was active, and he set him over the levies of the house of Joseph.

29 En ce temps-là, Jéroboam, étant sorti de Jérusalem, fut rencontré sur son chemin par le prophète Ahiyya, de Silo; il était couvert d’un manteau neuf, et tous deux étaient seuls dans la campagne.

And it came to pass at that time, that Jeroboam went forth from Jerusalem, and Achia the Selonite the prophet found him in the way, and caused him to turn aside out of the way: and Achia was clad with a new garment, and they two [were] alone in the field.

30 Ahiyya, saisissant ce manteau neuf, le déchira en douze lambeaux,

And Achia laid hold of his new garment that was upon him, and tore it [into] twelve pieces:

31 et dit à Jéroboam: "Prends pour toi dix de ces lambeaux, car ainsi a parlé l’Eternel, Dieu d’Israël: "Je vais arracher le royaume de la main de Salomon et je t’en donnerai dix tribus.

and he said to Jeroboam, Take to yourself ten pieces, for thus says the Lord God of Israel, Behold, I rend the kingdom out of the hand of Solomon, and will give you ten tribes.

32 Une seule tribu lui restera, en considération de mon serviteur David et de Jérusalem, la ville que j’ai élue entre toutes les tribus d’Israël.

Yet he shall have two tribes, for my servant David's sake, and for the sake of Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel.

33 Parce qu’ils m’ont abandonné, ont adoré Astarté, divinité des Sidoniens, Khamos, divinité de Moab, Milkom, dieu des Ammonites, et n’ont pas marché dans mes voies, en pratiquant ce qui est droit à mes yeux et en obéissant à mes lois et à mes préceptes comme a fait David, son père.

Because he forsook me, and sacrificed to Astarte the abomination of the Sidonians, and to Chamos, and to the idols of Moab, and to their king the abomination of the children of Ammon, and he walked not in my ways, to do that which was right before me, as David his father [did].

34 Toutefois, ce n’est pas lui que je dépouillerai de la royauté, car je veux le maintenir prince toute sa vie en faveur de mon serviteur David que j’ai élu, qui a gardé mes lois et mes commandements.

Howbeit I will not take the whole kingdom out of his hand, (for I will certainly resist him all the days of his life, ) for David my servant's sake, whom I have chosen.

35 Mais j’enlèverai le royaume à son fils et t’en accorderai dix tribus,

But I will take the kingdom out of the hand of his son, and give you ten tribes.

36 laissant à son fils une tribu, pour que mon serviteur David conserve une possession permanente devant moi dans Jérusalem, la ville que j’ai élue pour y faire régner mon nom.

But to his son I will give the two [remaining] tribes, that my servant David may have an establishment continually before me in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen for myself to put my name there.

37 Pour toi, je t’appellerai à régner en tel lieu qu’il te plaira, et tu seras roi d’Israël.

And I will take you, and you shall reign as your soul desires, and you shall be king over Israel.

38 Or, si tu obéis à tout ce que je t’ordonnerai, si tu marches dans mes voies, et si tu fais ce qui est droit à mes yeux, en observant mes lois et mes préceptes, comme a fait mon serviteur David, je serai avec toi et je t’édifierai une maison durable comme j’en ai édifié pour David, et je te donnerai Israël.

And it shall come to pass, if you will keep all the commandments that I shall give you, and will walk in my ways, and do that which is right before me, to keep my ordinances and my commandments, as David my servant did, that I will be with you, and will build you a sure house, as I built to David.

39 J’Humilierai de la sorte la postérité de David, non cependant pour toujours."

40 Salomon chercha à faire périr Jéroboam; mais celui-ci s’enfuit en Egypte auprès de Sésak, roi de ce pays, et y resta jusqu’à la mort de Salomon.

And Solomon sought to kill Jeroboam: but he arose and fled into Egypt, to Susakim king of Egypt, and he was in Egypt until Solomon died.

41 Pour le reste de l’histoire de Salomon, de ses actions et de ses traits de sagesse, ils sont consignés dans le livre des faits de Salomon.

And the rest of the history of Solomon, and all that he did, and all his wisdom, behold are not these things written in the book of the life of Solomon?

42 Quant au temps pendant lequel Salomon régna à Jérusalem sur tout Israël, il fut de quarante ans.

And the days [during] which Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel [were] forty years.

43 Puis Salomon s’endormit avec ses pères et fut enseveli dans la Cité de David, son père. Il eut pour successeur son fils Roboam.

And Solomon slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David his father, and Roboam his son reigned in his stead.
