1 Chroniques 20
1 Au renouvellement de l’année, époque où les rois entrent en campagne, Joab se mit à la tête de l’armée et porta le ravage dans le pays des Ammonites. Il mit le siège devant Rabba tandis que David restait à Jérusalem, se rendit maître de la ville et la détruisit.
And it came to pass, at the time of the return of the year, at the time when kings go out to battle, that Joab led forth the army, and wasted the country of the sons of Ammon, and came and besieged Rabbah, but David remained at Jerusalem. And Joab smote Rabbah, and overthrew it.
2 David enleva de la tête du roi des Ammonites sa couronne, pesant un kikkar d’or et ornée de pierres précieuses, et qui passa sur la tête de David. Il emporta le butin de la ville en très grande quantité.
And David took the crown of their king from off his head, and found it to weigh a talent of gold, and there were precious stones in it. And it was set upon David's head, and he brought forth the spoil of the city, exceedingly much.
3 Il emmena le peuple qui s’y trouvait, le condamna à la scie, aux herses de fer et aux haches; et il en usa de même à l’égard de toutes les villes des Ammonites. Puis David, avec toute l’armée, rentra à Jérusalem.
And he brought forth the people that were therein, and cut with saws, and with harrows of iron, and with axes. And thus David did to all the cities of the sons of Ammon. And David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.
4 Plus tard survint, à Ghézer, une guerre avec les Philistins; c’est alors que Sibbekkaï, de Houcha, battit Sippaï, un des descendants de Rapha, dont le pouvoir fut abattu.
And it came to pass after this, that there arose war at Gezer with the Philistines. Then Sibbecai the Hushathite killed Sippai of the sons of the giant, and they were subdued.
5 Une autre guerre eut lieu avec les Philistins, dans laquelle Elhanan, fils de Yaïr, abattit Lahmi, frère de Goliath de Gath (le bois de sa lance ressemblait à l’ensouple du tisserand).
And there was again war with the Philistines. And Elhanan the son of Jair killed Lahmi the brother of Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver's beam.
6 Une autre guerre eut lieu à Gath, où figura un homme de haute taille, qui avait six doigts à chaque main, six à chaque pied, en tout vingt-quatre, et qui, lui aussi, était issu de Rapha.
And there was again war at Gath, where was a man of great stature whose fingers and toes were twenty-four, six on each hand, and six on each foot. And he also was born to the giant.
7 Il défia Israël et fut tué par Jonathan, fils de Chimea et neveu de David.
And when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea David's brother killed him.
8 Tous ceux-ci étaient nés au Rapha dans Gath; tous périrent par la main de David et par celle de ses serviteurs.
These were born to the giant in Gath, and they fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.
