Psaumes 89
1 Instruction d’Éthan, l’Ezrakhite. Je chanterai à toujours les bontés de l’Éternel; de génération en génération je ferai connaître de ma bouche ta fidélité.
“A Maskil of Ethan the Ezrachite.” The kindnesses of the Lord will I for ever sing: from generation to generation will I make known thy faithfulness with my mouth.
2 Car j’ai dit: La bonté sera édifiée pour toujours; dans les cieux mêmes tu établiras ta fidélité.
For I have said, To eternity will kindness be built up: the heavens—yea, in these wilt thou establish thy faithfulness.
3 J’ai fait alliance avec mon élu, j’ai juré à David, mon serviteur:
“I have made a covenant with my elect, I have sworn unto David my servant,
4 J’établirai ta semence pour toujours, et j’édifierai ton trône de génération en génération. (Sélah)
Unto eternity will I establish thy seed, and I will build up thy throne, from generation to generation.” (Selah)
5 Et les cieux célébreront tes merveilles, ô Éternel! oui, ta fidélité, dans la congrégation des saints.
And the heavens praise thy wonder, O Lord: also thy faithfulness in the assembly of holy ones.
6 Car qui, dans les nues, peut être comparé à l’Éternel? Qui, parmi les fils des forts, est semblable à l’Éternel?
For who in the sky can be compared unto the Lord? who can be likened unto the Lord among the sons of the mighty?
7 Dieu est extrêmement redoutable dans l’assemblée des saints, et terrible au milieu de tous ceux qui l’entourent.
God is greatly terrific in the secret council of the holy ones and fear-inspiring over all that are about him.
8 Éternel, Dieu des armées, qui est comme toi, puissant Jah? Et ta fidélité est tout autour de toi.
O Lord God of hosts, who is powerful, like thee, Eternal! and thy faithfulness is round about thee.
9 Toi, tu domines l’orgueil de la mer; quand ses flots se soulèvent, toi tu les apaises.
Thou rulest over the pride of the sea: when its waves are lifted up, thou assuagest them.
10 Toi, tu as abattu Rahab comme un homme tué; par le bras de ta force tu as dispersé tes ennemis.
Thou didst crush Rahab as one that is slain: with thy strong arm didst thou scatter thy enemies.
11 À toi les cieux, et à toi la terre; le monde et tout ce qu’il contient, toi tu l’as fondé.
Thine are the heavens, also thine is the earth: as for the world and what filleth it, thou hast founded them.
12 Le nord et le midi, toi tu les as créés; le Thabor et l’Hermon exultent en ton nom.
The north and the south—these hast thou created: Tabor and Chermon shall rejoice in thy name.
13 À toi est le bras de puissance; ta main est forte; ta droite est haut élevée.
Thine is the powerful arm, with might: strong is thy hand, and exalted is thy right hand.
14 La justice et le jugement sont les bases de ton trône; la bonté et la vérité marchent devant ta face.
Righteousness and justice are the prop of thy throne: kindness and truth precede thy presence.
15 Bienheureux le peuple qui connaît le cri de joie! Ils marchent, ô Éternel! à la lumière de ta face.
Happy is the people that know the cornet's sound: O Lord, in the light of thy countenance will they ever walk firmly.
16 Ils s’égaient en ton nom tout le jour, et sont haut élevés par ta justice.
In thy name will they be glad all the day, and in thy righteousness will they be exalted.
17 Car tu es la gloire de leur force; et dans ton bon plaisir notre corne sera haut élevée.
For thou art the glory of their strength; and through thy favor will our horn be exalted.
18 Car l’Éternel est notre bouclier, et le Saint d’Israël, notre roi.
For of the Lord is our shield; and of the Holy One of Israel is our king.
19 Alors tu parlas en vision de ton saint, et tu dis: J’ai placé du secours sur un homme puissant, j’ai haut élevé un élu d’entre le peuple.
Then spokest thou in a vision to thy pious [servant], and saidst, “I have bestowed help to one that is mighty; I have exalted a youth out of the people;
20 J’ai trouvé David, mon serviteur; je l’ai oint de mon huile sainte;
I have found David my servant; with my holy oil have I anointed him;
21 Ma main sera fermement avec lui, et mon bras le fortifiera;
With whom my hand shall be firmly established; also my arm shall strengthen him;
22 L’ennemi ne le pressurera pas et le fils d’iniquité ne l’affligera pas;
The enemy shall not exact from him like a lender: and the son of injustice shall not afflict him:
23 J’abattrai ses adversaires devant sa face, et je frapperai ceux qui le haïssent;
And I will beat down before his face his assailants, and those that hate him will I plague.
24 Et ma fidélité et ma bonté seront avec lui, et, par mon nom, sa corne sera élevée.
But my faithfulness and my kindness shall be with him: and through my name shall his horn be exalted.
25 Et j’ai mis sa main à la mer, et sa droite dans les fleuves.
And I will place on the sea his hand, and on the rivers his right hand.
26 Lui me criera: Tu es mon père, mon Dieu, et le rocher de mon salut.
He will call unto me, Thou art my father, my God, and the rock of my salvation.
27 Aussi moi, je ferai de lui le premier-né, le plus élevé des rois de la terre.
Also I will appoint my first-born, the highest among the kings of the earth.
28 Je lui garderai ma bonté à toujours, et mon alliance lui sera assurée.
For evermore will I keep for him my kindness, and my covenant shall stand faithfully with him.
29 Et je ferai subsister sa semence à perpétuité, et son trône comme les jours des cieux.
And I appoint for ever his seed, and his throne as the days of heaven.
30 Si ses fils abandonnent ma loi et ne marchent pas dans mes ordonnances,
If his children forsake my law, and walk not in my ordinances;
31 S’ils violent mes statuts et ne gardent pas mes commandements,
If they profane my statutes, and keep not my commandments:
32 Je visiterai leur transgression avec la verge, et leur iniquité avec des coups;
Then will I visit with the rod their transgressions, and with plagues their iniquity.
33 Mais je ne retirerai pas de lui ma bonté, et je ne démentirai pas ma fidélité;
Nevertheless my kindness will I not make utterly void from him, and I will not act falsely against my faithfulness.
34 Je ne violerai point mon alliance, et je ne changerai pas ce qui est sorti de mes lèvres.
I will not profane my covenant, and what is gone out of my lips will I not alter.
35 J’ai une fois juré par ma sainteté, si [jamais] je mens à David!
One thing have I sworn by my holiness, that I will not lie unto David.
36 Sa semence sera à toujours, et son trône comme le soleil devant moi.
His seed shall endure for ever, and his throne shall be like the sun before me.
37 Comme la lune, il sera affermi pour toujours; et le témoin dans les nues en est ferme. (Sélah)
Like the moon shall it be firmly established for ever, and as this faithful witness in the sky.” (Selah)
38 Mais tu l’as rejeté et tu l’as méprisé, tu as été courroucé contre ton oint.
And yet thou hast east off and despised, thou hast become wroth with thy anointed.
39 Tu as répudié l’alliance de ton serviteur, tu as profané sa couronne jusqu’en terre;
Thou hast made void the covenant of thy servant: thou hast profaned, down to the ground, his crown.
40 Tu as rompu toutes ses clôtures, tu as mis en ruine ses forteresses:
Thou hast broken down all his fences: thou hast brought his strong-holds to terror.
41 Tous ceux qui passent le pillent; il est en opprobre à ses voisins.
All that pass by the way plunder him: he is become a reproach to his neighbors.
42 Tu as élevé la droite de ses adversaires, tu as réjoui tous ses ennemis;
Thou hast raised up the right hand of his assailants: thou hast caused all his enemies to rejoice.
43 Tu as retourné le tranchant de son épée, et tu ne l’as pas soutenu dans la bataille.
Thou hast also turned the edge of his sword, and hast not let him stand erect in the battle.
44 Tu as fait cesser son éclat, et tu as jeté par terre son trône;
Thou hast made his brilliancy cease; and his throne hast thou thrown down to the ground.
45 Tu as abrégé les jours de sa jeunesse, tu l’as couvert de honte. (Sélah)
Thou hast shortened the days of his youth: thou hast enshrouded him with shame. (Selah)
46 Jusques à quand, ô Éternel, te cacheras-tu à toujours, [et] ta fureur brûlera-t-elle comme un feu?
How long, Lord, wilt thou hide thyself, continually? how long shall thy fury burn like fire?
47 Souviens-toi, quant à moi, de ce qu’est la vie: pourquoi as-tu créé tous les fils des hommes [pour n’être que] vanité?
Remember [what] I am, what my duration is [here], for what nothingness thou hast created all sons of men!
48 Qui est l’homme qui vit et qui ne verra pas la mort, – qui sauvera son âme de la main du shéol? (Sélah) (Sheol h7585)
What man is there that can live, and shall not see death? that can deliver his soul from the power of the nether word? (Selah) (Sheol h7585)
49 Où sont, Seigneur, tes premières bontés, que tu as jurées à David dans ta fidélité?
Where are thy former kindnesses, O Lord, which thou hast sworn unto David by thy truth?
50 Souviens-toi, Seigneur, de l’opprobre de tes serviteurs, – je porte dans mon sein [celui de] tous les grands peuples, –
Remember, Lord, the disgrace of thy servants; that I bear in my bosom the [burden] of all the many nations;
51 [L’opprobre] dont tes ennemis couvrent, ô Éternel, dont ils couvrent les pas de ton oint.
That thy enemies have defied, O Lord; that they have defied the footsteps of thy anointed.
52 Béni soit l’Éternel pour toujours! Amen, oui, amen!
Blessed be the Lord for evermore. Amen, and Amen.
