Psaumes 2
1 Pourquoi s’agitent les nations, et les peuples méditent-ils la vanité?
Wherefore do nations rage, and people meditate a vain thing?
2 Les rois de la terre se lèvent, et les princes consultent ensemble contre l’Éternel et contre son Oint:
The kings of the earth raise themselves up, and rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed:
3 Rompons leurs liens, et jetons loin de nous leurs cordes!
“Let us break asunder their bands, and cast away from us their cords.”
4 Celui qui habite dans les cieux se rira [d’eux], le Seigneur s’en moquera.
He who dwelleth in the heavens will laugh: the Lord will hold them in derision.
5 Alors il leur parlera dans sa colère, et, dans sa fureur, il les épouvantera:
Then will he speak unto them in his anger, and in his displeasure will he terrify them.
6 Et moi, j’ai oint mon roi sur Sion, la montagne de ma sainteté.
[Saying, ] Yet have I appointed my king upon Zion my holy mount.
7 Je raconterai le décret: l’Éternel m’a dit: Tu es mon Fils; aujourd’hui, je t’ai engendré.
I will announce the decree, the Lord hath said unto me, “My son art thou: I have indeed this day begotten thee.
8 Demande-moi, et je te donnerai les nations pour héritage, et, pour ta possession, les bouts de la terre;
Ask it of me, and I will give thee nations for an inheritance, and for thy possession the uttermost ends of the earth.
9 Tu les briseras avec un sceptre de fer; comme un vase de potier tu les mettras en pièces.
Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; like a potter's vessel shalt thou dash them in pieces.”
10 Et maintenant, ô rois, soyez intelligents; vous, juges de la terre, recevez instruction:
And now, O ye kings, be wise: take warning, ye judges of the earth.
11 Servez l’Éternel avec crainte, et réjouissez-vous avec tremblement;
Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
12 Embrassez le Fils, de peur qu’il ne s’irrite, et que vous ne périssiez dans le chemin, quand sa colère s’embrasera tant soit peu. Bienheureux tous ceux qui se confient en lui!
Do homage to the son, lest he be angry, and ye be lost on the way; for his wrath is so speedily kindled. Happy are all they that put their trust in him.
