Proverbes 3
1 Mon fils, n’oublie pas mon enseignement, et que ton cœur garde mes commandements;
[My] son, forget not my laws; but let thine heart keep my words:
2 car ils t’ajouteront un prolongement de jours, et des années de vie, et la paix.
for length of existence, and years of life, and peace, shall they add to thee.
3 Que la bonté et la vérité ne t’abandonnent pas; lie-les à ton cou, écris-les sur la tablette de ton cœur,
Let not mercy and truth forsake thee; but bind them about thy neck:
4 et tu trouveras la faveur et la bonne sagesse aux yeux de Dieu et des hommes.
so shalt thou find favour: and do thou provide things honest in the sight of the Lord, and of men.
5 Confie-toi de tout ton cœur à l’Éternel, et ne t’appuie pas sur ton intelligence;
Trust in God with all thine heart; and be not exalted in thine own wisdom.
6 dans toutes tes voies connais-le, et il dirigera tes sentiers.
In all thy ways acquaint thyself with her, that she may rightly direct thy paths.
7 Ne sois pas sage à tes propres yeux; crains l’Éternel et éloigne-toi du mal:
Be not wise in thine own conceit; but fear God, and depart from all evil.
8 ce sera la santé pour ton nombril, et un arrosement pour tes os.
Then shall there be health to thy body, and good keeping to thy bones.
9 Honore l’Éternel de tes biens et des prémices de tout ton revenu;
Honour the Lord with thy just labours, and give him the first of thy fruits of righteousness:
10 et tes greniers se rempliront d’abondance, et tes cuves regorgeront de moût.
that thy storehouses may be completely filled with corn, and that thy presses may burst forth with wine.
11 Mon fils, ne méprise pas l’instruction de l’Éternel, et n’aie pas en aversion sa réprimande;
[My] son, despise not the chastening of the Lord; nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:
12 car celui que l’Éternel aime, il le discipline, comme un père le fils auquel il prend plaisir.
for whom the Lord loves, he rebukes, and scourges every son whom he receives.
13 Bienheureux l’homme qui trouve la sagesse, et l’homme qui obtient l’intelligence!
Blessed is the man who has found wisdom, and the mortal who knows prudence.
14 car son acquisition est meilleure que l’acquisition de l’argent, et son revenu [est meilleur] que l’or fin.
For it is better to traffic for her, than for treasures of gold and silver.
15 Elle est plus précieuse que les rubis, et aucune des choses auxquelles tu prends plaisir ne l’égale:
And she is more valuable than precious stones: no evil thing shall resist her: she is well known to all that approach her, and no precious thing is equal to her in value.
16 longueur de jours est dans sa droite, dans sa gauche richesse et honneur;
For length of existence and years of life are in her right hand; and in her left hand are wealth and glory: out of her mouth proceeds righteousness, and she carries law and mercy upon her tongue.
17 ses voies sont des voies agréables, et tous ses sentiers sont paix.
Her ways are good ways, and all her paths are peaceful.
18 Elle est un arbre de vie pour ceux qui la saisissent; et qui la tient ferme est rendu bienheureux.
She is a tree of life to all that lay hold upon her; and she is [a] secure [help] to all that stay themselves on her, as on the Lord.
19 L’Éternel a fondé la terre par la sagesse, il a établi les cieux par l’intelligence.
God by wisdom founded the earth, and by prudence he prepared the heavens.
20 Par sa connaissance les abîmes se fendirent, et les nuées distillent la rosée.
By understanding were the depths broken up, and the clouds dropped water.
21 Mon fils, que [ces choses] ne s’éloignent point de tes yeux: garde le sain conseil et la réflexion,
[My] son, let [them] not pass from [thee], but keep my counsel and understanding:
22 et ils seront la vie de ton âme et la grâce de ton cou.
that thy soul may live, and that there may be grace round thy neck; and it shall be health to thy flesh, and safety to thy bones:
23 Alors tu iras ton chemin en sécurité, et ton pied ne se heurtera point.
that thou mayest go confidently in peace in all thy ways, and that thy foot may not stumble.
24 Si tu te couches tu n’auras point de crainte; mais tu te coucheras et ton sommeil sera doux.
For if thou rest, thou shalt be undismayed; and if thou sleep, thou shalt slumber sweetly.
25 Ne crains pas la frayeur subite, ni la ruine des méchants quand elle surviendra;
And thou shalt not be afraid of alarm coming upon thee, neither of approaching attacks of ungodly men.
26 car l’Éternel sera ta confiance, et il gardera ton pied d’être pris.
For the Lord shall be over all thy ways, and shall establish thy foot that thou be not moved.
27 Ne refuse pas le bien à celui à qui il est dû, quand il est au pouvoir de ta main de le faire.
Forbear not to do good to the poor, whensoever thy hand may have [power] to help [him].
28 Ne dis pas à ton prochain: Va et reviens, et je te le donnerai demain, quand tu as la chose par-devers toi.
Say not, Come back another time, to-morrow I will give; while thou art able to do [him] good: for thou knowest not what the next day will bring forth.
29 Ne machine pas du mal contre ton prochain, puisqu’il habite en sécurité près de toi.
Devise not evil against thy friend, living near thee and trusting in thee.
30 Ne conteste pas sans sujet avec un homme, s’il ne t’a pas fait de tort.
Be not ready to quarrel with a man without a cause, lest he do thee some harm.
31 Ne porte pas envie à un homme violent, et ne choisis aucune de ses voies;
Procure not the reproaches of bad men, neither do thou covet their ways.
32 Car l’Éternel a en abomination le pervers, et son secret est avec les hommes droits.
For every transgressor is unclean before the Lord; neither does he sit among the righteous.
33 La malédiction de l’Éternel est dans la maison du méchant, et il bénit l’habitation des justes.
The curse of God is in the houses of the ungodly; but the habitations of the just are blessed.
34 Certes il se moque des moqueurs, et il donne la grâce aux débonnaires.
The Lord resists the proud; but he gives grace to the humble.
35 Les sages hériteront la gloire, mais la honte est l’élévation des sots.
The wise shall inherit glory; but the ungodly have exalted [their own] dishonour.
